Thanks Hamish. Just applied this fix and did the soldering myself. Saw the fuel light come on for the first time in ages....Was a bit hairy driving on the highway waiting for the light to come on...
This same malfunction happened to my 2014 Toyota Fortuner at 109,000 km. Had to have the instrument cluster replaced as I couldn't find anyone to repair it. At 165,000 km the symptoms reappeared. This time the sending unit in the tank had to be replaced. Seems that both types of malfunction are commonplace in Fortuner/Hilux of this vintage.
Same thing happend to me. My sender had to be replaced probably because I was going so low on fuel all the time and picking dirt up from bottom of fuel tank. Long after, I ran out of fuel and stll registeted 1/4 tank. I will do this fix tthis week...
Thanks for this, I had the 1/4 tank,no fuel problem a few months ago and finally researching what the issue might be. I was going to start looking at the fuel tank,😅 this has probably saved me hours of work.

R308 and R309 was it Sep 2023 when you solder 1 leg it falls off meaning the other side off, lost 2x needle widths of fuel after.

Just re solder, no resistors we’re changed. If you take it into a Toyota dealer I’ve been told they do it for free 🤙🏼
