As someone from Scotland who has lived in Australia, RAIN IS NOT THE ISSUE! The TEMPERATURE of the rain that is the problem!
When it rains in Australia it is hot rain therefore, you can stand in it and get wet but it will not make you cold, you will feel wet but not miserable and cold. When it rains in the UK it can be freezing cold and therefore make your body freezing cold as you sit in COLD wet clothes for the rest of the day.
Clothes dry easy in Australia when the rain stops because the temperature rarely goes below zero during the day, a average winter is 15-20 degrees. Clothes in the UK never dry after rain because the temperature is too cold to dry clothes.

What's important is not the amount of rain but the number of days that are sunny and not overcast. There are various locations in the UK that have micro-climates and get very little rainy or overcast days. Places with good continuous sunny weather are East Midlands, South Devon, Norfolk, East Sussex. Places to avoid are North Devon, All of Cornwall, Wales, Bristol, the whole of Ireland, Northern England and Scotland. If you like mild winters goto Cornwall but avoid it for the rest of the year as the weather there is terrible in Spring, Summer and Autumn.

I'm Italian and my country is basically a sunny place most of the year, but here where I live, in the north west we're having quite a rainy summer, not like you usually have in Britain, but still, everybody is complaining about the weather! For us in normal to have very high temperature in July, up to 30 or even 35 degrees (celsius), but for the moment they just can't get over 20/25 degrees maximum. And you know what, I'm just enjoing it! Maybe I should move to England...

Lol you're kind of missing the point. It's not about the amount of rain we get, it's the frequency and randomness of it. It isn't a never-ending shower that floods the streets on a daily basis, it's the fact we get about a week of sunny days per year and then the rest are grey and damp - and rain tends to come out of absolutely nowhere.

Ooh, I remember the flooding in 2009! I felt so sorry for home owners whose homes got flooded. They'd have massive insurance problems & would have practically no chance of ever selling their house.
I think a lot of the flooding was down to councils not keeping drains clear or dredging rivers.

Oh yeah, I forgot about the December 2015 floods. I'm not actually sure which flood was worse, to be honest. The (Summer) 2009 floods stuck in my mind most prominently, because I know people who got flooded then. Family and friends of family did. Also, you don't expect months of almost non-stop rain in Summer time.

you know if you think about it it's not just British weather that can be bad, In America, there are places that are cloudy and rainy and cold too, for example, San Fransisco, Portland or Seattle or Maine and also countries near the UK like Belgium, Ireland, Holland and Denmark so we are not alone! I've been to Amsterdam last summer and it was cloudy and cold and rainy and I hated it! (but the city was still nice tho). basically for Americans, British summer is 70% Seattle and Portland for the rain 20% San Francisco for the chilly evenings and mornings and 10% New York for when our weather gets really nice and yes a lot of comments here are about people who wanna come to England because of the rain and yes it does rain a lot but some days in summer it can get hot and sunny and London is beautiful on a hot sunny day! in summer there are also Thunderstorms and those are cool. The rainest time of the year for the UK is autumn, I don't really like autumn here cause it's so rainy and I have just said goodbye to those sunny days in summer :(
