Thank you for a great lap Misha. Amazing how little traffic we had considering how many cars it had been just an hour earlier. If you can read "sign language", my opinion is "spoken" around the 4:30 mark ;) hahaha
The setup trick with the 997gt3 to balance the grip was the following: 1) turn the front struts to access the larger camber range, it lowers the starting caster amount, but then use Spacers in the arms to achieve the camber you desired - the advantage of this method is that it widens the front track without worrying about caster rubbing - this would also allow you to run a front space or slightly wider front rim 2) don't run the 'recommended' Porsche 'Track' alignment but run slightly more camber in the front and less in the rear - I called this the 'reverse' Porsche recommendation - i.e. -2.7 front with -1.8 rear (also following point #1) 3) At least for the 997, they under-specced the rear swaybar - when the GT2 came out it was a few mm wider - just swapping the bars and running it on the softest setting was enough (along with the above alignment specs) 4) with the above setup, you would have a car that would rotate under slow-speed corners but with a full RS wing upgrade and max wing angle, it would be completely neutral in highspeed corners 5) if you wanted even more rear grip so you could attack the corners, dropping the rear ride height slightly was a big win 6) the final piece was upgrading the LSD to a track-orientated much higher lockup rate (Guard) unit so you could insanely trail-brake around corners and the rear-end would stay glued - for me this was truly magical - you could literally trail brake way around a corner and the back end was glued to the ground - it's where I had all the fun of gaining ground on cars like BMWs that simply could not do what a GT3 could do under braking.
@@annoodannoo1032 The point I was trying to make about the wing was that even when the much larger RS wing was placed in full steep attack mode, with that neutral setup I described, it didn't cause highspeed understeer as you might think it would - the car was neutral. Of all the changes I mentioned, the combo of reducing the rear camber to -1.8, from the factor recommended -2.5 'Track' setup, with the front only being at -2, was really 80% of the battle - the other being just a tiny bit of a stiffer rear bar. With the RS wing at full attack angle vs the Regular wing at neutral, I could absolutely feel the difference in very fast 3/4th gear off-camber corners where the stock wing might have the rear starting to want to come around (not fun). For my GT3 experience, once I got a pretty neutral setup, it was all about getting the car to have MORE rear grip under all conditions (drop ride height and better LSD) - this just allowed me to become far more brutal with the car trying to find the last 1/10s because I could trust the car - it simply would not ever snap - even with the most brutal application of throttle or trail braking.
