Enjoyed this video. Urushi lacquer is also used on some very nice Japanese fountain pens, if you fancy looking into another 'down the rabbit hole' hobby.
I did see some when researching Urushi lacquer. I've been interested in them for quite awhile mostly thanks to KDP Ross's pen videos. Definitely seems like another "down the rabbit hole" hobby though! Thanks:)
Bob great review I love how you spot the details of every watch, that’s what sets your reviews apart from the rest. The watch is beautiful, I would say it’s a versatile style, you can dress up or down with it. This a keeper for ant collection.
Thanks! I was looking at this a a straight dress watch but you're right. With it's bigger size and the right strap it could be pretty versatile. I've been exploring online for one tonight. Haven't pulled the trigger but it's a definite possibility at some point. Take care :)
You prolly dont care but if you guys are stoned like me during the covid times then you can stream all of the latest series on InstaFlixxer. I've been streaming with my gf these days xD
Great video, Bob. That really is a beautiful watch, and remarkable craftsmanship. Not sure of the price, but I'm looking forward to seeing one in person.
Appreciate that. It's such an eye catcher for sure. I'd seen alot of pictures but this is one but you really need to see in person to fully appreciate the dynamic dial. Enjoy it!
It's an incredible dial! I'd seen pictures before this came in but I was blown away when I had it in hand. Very dynamic dial with how it plays off the light. The enamel dials look stunning. I'm sure they're even better in person too. Hope to pick one up at some point. Thanks!
I agree 100%: this is a very elegant watch from Seiko. I of course have no need for a dress watch anymore but if I did, this one would certainly be near the top of the list.
I don't often need a dress watch either. The last wedding I went too I actually forgot to change watches and wore my srp637 Baby Tuna. Looked awesome with a suit if you ask me:) This one though made me rethink my lack of dress watches in the collection. I'd be happy to have maybe one dressier watch in the watch box if it looked like this. Thanks Lee.
Man, I tried to capture it on video but in person it's seriously next level. Just bought the Fuyugeshiki Cocktail. Much more affordable but another nicely executed watch from them. Thanks and have a great weekend:)
Thanks for pointing this one out Bob! I own and am a big fan of both the sarb017 and sarb065 (both 6r15 as well). To me anyway, the extra punch added by the dial and finish work on this one would be worth the premium.
I have to agree with you. An upgraded movement would be nice but the work that's gone into this one definitely adds value to me too. It's really quite a beautiful watch. Thanks!
TimeToGo Travel And Timepieces Definitely beautiful. See a theme going with how Seiko is treating dials on some of their mid/higher tier. Even though not enamel, it brought this one to mind. Thanks again! ruclips.net/video/oAIuBTbygsU/видео.html
@@jimscopa8685 I've seen those ones a couple times on Instagram I believe. They look great too. Would love to check one out in person sometime. Thanks!
I wish these came in at 39mm. 39mm is the perfect size for a modern dress watch. For me it’s not so much about being too big on my wrist but more about the appropriate scale and proportions for a dressy watch. Unfortunately Rolex did this too with the new 41mm datejust.
Perfect time for you making this vid I'm very tempted to get this just struggling to convince myself its worth double the price of cocktail time sarb065 which I just sold...I may just have to give in and order
That's the dilemma with some of these new Seiko's. It definitely has that extra craftsmanship going for it that adds value. Just how much value I'm not sure. I will say after seeing this in person I'm considering picking one up myself. Thanks and I'd love to hear what you think if you get one :)
That’s a beautiful watch. I know the photos don’t do the Urushi dial justice as I own one myself. I picked up the retrograde version (ref SARD011) when I was in Japan earlier in the year along with a couple others. The case is a perfect size for me at 40.5mm.
@@TimeToGoTravelAndTimepieces also the strap looks like gator pattern embossed calfskin leather. I used to sell high end dress shoes and gator leather is thick as hell lol
@@TimeToGoTravelAndTimepieces ended up getting this exact model w/ the presage steel bracelet to make it more casual - your review helped a lot thank you .
I think the one big difference would be the hand lacquered dial that would push the price up. Not sure what kind of real dollar figure difference that would add to be honest.
Thanks for your reply :) ! Have you ever order seiyajapan ? I am thinking of order one but I am worried about potential custom fees (I am living in France)
@@lucaskurosaki4297 I haven't myself although I know lots of people that have. I hear the customer service is good. Maybe you could ask them what to expect at customs in France.
It's mainly the dial, the regular cocktail time presage watches have the dial pattern then seven layers of gloss. The Urushi on the other hand has natural lacquer obtained from the sap of the Japanese lacquer tree, all done individually by hands of master craftsman Tamura Ichifune, he only makes 15 dials a day. It's very hard to find another Urushi dial watch of this level of finishing for this price point, so considering that, even though it's more expensive than the regular cocktail time range it's definitely priced according to it's level of craftsmanship.
Hey Alex! Glad to hear from you, been awhile. I haven't come across anything about it being limited but with the way the dial is made it's hard to say how long they'll be in production. I'm seeing them anywhere from $800 up to close to $1000 USD on Ebay. Thanks:)
Yes, we are showing them how supply-demand works: two popular Japanese sellers stated independently that they have to keep replenishing the Urushi models to fulfill continuous orders.
TimeToGo Travel And Timepieces Thank you for the quick response. I found two great deals online... But now I'm hesitating. 1000 USD for a used Sarx059/spb075 without a box. Pretty and versatile. Or 600 USD for a used Urushi (same as in the video) with a box. Also very pretty... Could be dressed down as you say, but still quite formal. So difficult to choose.
I only found out about the Seiko usushi dial watches this week and I’m totally captivated. Thank you for the video!
They're definitely amazing dials. Even better in person. Thanks!
Wooouuw!
What a beautiful Seiko Dress Watch!!!!!

Absolutely beautiful. Excellent watch and review Bob. Thank you for this review!!
Thanks man. Really happy to have been able to check this one out. Such a gorgeous watch!!
Perfect dressy/casual piece to go along with my beater Hamilton Khaki mechanical
For sure. Definitely a nice duo with those 2 watches.

If you get the chance the dial is really nice in person. A little expensive for sure but a beautiful watch. Thanks Steve.

Oh cool! Bet that was such a cool trip!! Such a great watch.👍👍
It was a great trip. It was hard not coming back with a suitcase full of watches. I ended up getting 3 JDM Seikos.
@@chrisg-gg2iu What were the other two if you don't mind sharing?
Chris The other 2 were SARK007 & SARW037
What a beauty
It's really impressive. Thanks.
The minute hand is made by gold or plated by gold or just gold color?, thank you 🙏🏻
I believe it just looks to be gold.
TimeToGo Travel And Timepieces ok, thank you 🙏🏻
Great Review Bob and very Nice Watch! The Movement tho?!
Thanks Robert! I know, I know...the movement is definitely an issue for alot of people. Still such a beautiful watch though :)
Excuse me, I want to ask, the minute hand and second hand of this seiko made by Maki-e technique (use real Gold Powder) or just gold color?, Thank you
So sorry. Unfortunately not sure. Tried to find out but couldn't find out for sure.
Did you ever figure out if the strap is genuine alligator?
I never did unfortunately. The owner of the watch that leant it to me figured it was stamped leather but I couldn't confirm.
I think the value proposition is there considering the new monsters are $600
I agree. I think the extra workmanship on the dial adds to the value too.
Price????
$800-$900 USD or so on Ebay.
I’m contemplating between this and the sarw013 ughhhhhhh
Tough call. Wish I could help but both are great watches.

Nice dial and seconds hand but the hour and minute hand are not to my taste. Another great video I must say.
Thanks Andy. To be honest the dial distracts from the rest of the watch. It's so dynamic and easy on the eyes. Cheers:)
V. Informative vid. Great piece, but they should have covered up the movement.
It sure is a pretty one. A nice engraved caseback would have been kind of cool to see. Thanks a bunch for stopping by!
Cocktail time for 300 euros? Yes to that! This for 800, with same movement? No, let's show them how supply/demand works.
The prices are definitely a little hard to swallow compared to watches like the Cocktail Time. Appreciate the comment.

Could I dress this down with a NATO or something? I like it, but I never get to wear dress watches. To buy it id have to make it casual.
