    Used both very extensively and 1Password comes out easily on top.

    I’ve used both of these password managers, but currently using 1Password as of right now. I just really like the seem less autofill and the way it suggests strong passwords so I don’t have to go to the browser extension and generate a password and autofill it. That’s the reason I chose 1Password as my #1 Password Manager for me.

    I haven't tried 1Password but I am looking for a replacement for LastPass. The one feature I really liked about LastPass is the re-prompt master password option on any of my passwords. Bitwarden offers this as well. Does 1Password?

    Because of open source nature... Bitwarden clearly takes it away for me. Passwords are extremely sensitive information, and i dont care 1password is more expensive i would have still payed for it .. but i get the transparent open source bitwarden - thanks for the video though.

    Thank you for your reviews and the discount link! I've been a long-term user of LastPass. But after going through glitches and the recent breach, I decided to leave it. Currently trying out 1password. I've tried Bitwarden in the past but their UI didn't excite me, although it is more affordable, aka being free.

    I have been using 1Password for years, but 1Password 8 is a huge step backwards imo. It is faster overall, which is a plus, but the interface is terrible. It is more difficult to use now, and it doesn’t need to be. Vaults are now essentially folders. It is difficult to display only vault items and search them. In 1P7 you could choose the vault from a list and that was all you saw on screen. Everything you did was in the selected vault. Now everything is merged together. Thankfully they added a feature called collections which I can use to list only one vault to get the same experience I had on 7. 1Password 8 Mac app is particularly painful to use, thanks to their decision to no longer use native Mac code and instead use the open-source JavaScript-based Electron framework.

      THIS. I hate 1Password 8. I upgraded the day it came out, but the Mac app was super buggy and in my opinion the UI is significantly worse (very bloated and "simple" looking to the point where I couldn't get the info I was looking for quickly). I ended up switching back to 1Password 7 the same day (which was a huge pain btw).

      I went to move from 1P7 to 1P8 last night on my iPhone and ended up cancelling the subscription before it even got to the trial ending.
      The app was truly dreadful as I couldn’t log in at first; eventually I got in but then found the migration looked like it worked but I’m still not sure it did.
      It was the most frustrating experience and not, repeat, not what I was expecting.
      Now, I’m back to searching for an alternative to 1P as I know 1P7 will stop being supported (if it hasn’t Ali) so I’m looking at Dashlane or Bitwarden both for desktop and mobile… and it’s getting clearer that it’ll be Bitwarden that’s going to will.
      It’s annoying as I liked and trusted 1P.

    • @tekgamer33
      @tekgamer33 Год назад

      @@macjim I had zero problems migrating to 8. It's just trying to use it that's painful. They made so many changes at once to the way it works that it barely resembles 1P7. Previous versions have never been that drastic, so this is either driven by the VC investors or the decision to use Electron instead of native-Mac code. Either way, I have also been looking at my options. I like Dashlane a lot but the big issue for me is lack of custom fields. If that is something you also use then really Bitwarden, LastPass, or Keeper are the only options right now.

      I agree. Something broke with 1P8 version. It has been painful to use on my Mac. I find it works in Edge, but not Safari. Mobile seems mostly okay. With the LastPass breach, makes me worried on using any of these tools. Might go back to physical notebook.

    I use 1Password and its $2.99/month. A con with 1Password is you can not print out a simple list of all your userIDs and passwords to store in a safe. It can only produce a CSV file. Does Bitwarden offer a print feature? Is there a migration program out there so users can jump from one to the other? 1Password used to be a great product but now the money grab is on with the ever increasing monthly (yearly) payments.

    In the time since this video came out 5 months ago, it looks like 1Password's prices went up -- family plan is now $5 instead of $3.50, which is still a good deal.
    I used 1Password when I ran MacOS -- I had some reason to move off of it 5-6 years ago though I don't remember why. Some part of my brain is thinking that maybe at one they did not have an Android app, or maybe it had limited features, I just don't recall. It looks like everything's a-ok now with that, and there's this newer one BitWarden which looks pretty solid also. Tough decision to choose between them.

    Hi. Came across your channel. I like the content but one annoying thing in the presentation is the screen pixelation from what page to the next. It's like watching a TV channel over rabbit ears but the signal keeps dropping between scenes. Imagine if Hollywood did that in movies, we'd probably give it a thumbs down. Also the extra logo inserts between frames could probably be reduced, there are a lot of them.

    So, if I go to login to, for example, my Netflix account on a computer I've never used (like at a friends house), am I logging in with my MASTER password or what?

    • @Dwigt_Rortugal
      @Dwigt_Rortugal Год назад

      Yes. You would first log into password manager with a master password or some variation of that method, depending on the product. You then copy and paste the password from the password manager into Netflix's login prompt. (Many managers will automatically populate the credentials) If it's not your computer and you're not sure if its owner has properly secured it, I personally wouldn't install the password manager. Instead, use the mobile app with biometric login (e.g. FaceID or fingerprint) to get the Netflix credentials off your phone and enter them manually into the computer. It takes more time, but it's also a lot safer because then you're only potentially exposing the Netflix credentials to any security risk that might be present on the computer. (Password reuse defeats this.)

    Devastating news with the Last Pass breach.
    I’ve been running apples, built-ins password manager on my MacBook and my iPhone side-by-side with LastPass for a year. I’ll probably just stick with apple’s password manager as my sole vault.

    • @ndrwbatchelor

      Just a heads up: I’m not sure if you use this feature, but we’ve been having problems with shared password folders with Apple iCloud keychain. Many passwords would just disappear completely and they all had to be reset again. Also, the ones that didn’t disappear completely would be randomly moved into someone’s personal iCloud keychain account, which is a huge security issue. Just FYI

    I have been looking at both of these with the lastpass hack. The problem I had with 1password is that key they require which I lost so am totally locked out of the account. The web interface of both seemed almost the same at least it did when I looked at both. Now I can not get into my 1password so can not verify.

    is it safe recording bank passwords to bitwarden?

    • @Dwigt_Rortugal
      @Dwigt_Rortugal Год назад

      It has AES-CBC 256-bit encryption for the vault data, with some extra features (Key Derived Functions or KDF) that make cracking your encryption key a slow and difficult process. (If you have KDF enabled, which I'm guessing is on by default for new accounts?) Given that it's open source, a lot of eyes presumably review the encryption methods regularly. To me, that seems very robust, but there's an old saying paraphrased, "If it's made by a human, it can be cracked by a human." There's no such thing as bug-free code, and there are ultimately no guarantees with any encryption method that someone won't figure out how to crack it or find a workaround. It's ultimately your call. That being said, as a self-proclaimed RUclips expert, I'd say it's as secure as anything mainstream and available to the public.

      @@cypher9000 oh now I would feel better about that, I just never used that feature and I had lastpass up until a few days ago when I switched to bitwarden.
