    IMPORTANT NOTICE ABOUT SAFETY AND RUclips:
    My channel does not promote or glamourise dangerous activities like lift surfing.
    Featured in THE SUN and THE MIRROR newspapers:
    • Teaching KIDS TO SURF ... (see this KID trying to surf a lift)
    VERY WORRYING...
    • Random lift adventure 13 (12 year old kids surfing lifts)
    mrmattandmrchay is a RESPONSIBLE and RESPECTABLE channel.
    It goes without saying that RUclips is a public platform and our channels are popular with kids, and kids are influenced by what they watch. I'd like to think these kids didn't get the idea of surfing lifts from 'my' channel.
    A warning in a video DOES NOT exonerate you if harm should come to a kid that was copying something that YOU have portrayed as a fun activity.

    THE MRMATTANDMRCHAY CHANNEL, established 2008:
    I'm passionate about uploading quality and interesting videos for YOU, my audience.
    What is my channel about? "Old lift machinery made interesting", old air-raid sirens, prehistoric alarm equipment. If "I" don't find it interesting ...then IT DOESN'T GET UPLOADED!
    I always spend a lot of time editing my videos with animations, video in-sync with music and voice overs to bring you QUALITY videos to watch.
    My moto - "Quality NOT Quantity" - spending a month editing a video is not a rarity!
    But without you, I'm nothing here. Thank you so much for watching.

    Trenchard Street car park gives one of the best viewpoints of Bristol, ironically because the view doesn't contain Trenchard Street car park.

    I know that car park in Bristol, there are still quite a few original Express lifts in Bristol university which I have the pleasure of working on as a technician for Stannah ,I started my apprenticeship with Express in 1973

    I love the gritty architecture of this building. It’s got an industrial type style to it with that very utilitarian calcium silicate masonry. The concrete lintel on the motor room window has signs of rebar corrosion. I guess the lifts where put out of service to reduce building maintenance costs. It appears that those lifts have not been in operation for a very long time.

    Express Lifts. Made in Northampton I believe. Long gone now and the site has become yet another housing estate but the lift test tower, all 418 feet of it, still stands in the middle of this housing estate and is used to test lifts for other companies I believe. I was told that the windows on the lift tower were deliberately shaped like the call buttons on the Express Lifts themselves. You cannot miss the tower on a trip past Northampton on the M1.

    It was very cool to find these lifts, as we had no idea they were there! A very nice added bonus to our trip to Bristol.
    It would be brilliant to be able to get a closer look at those lifts and see the car interiors, as well as the car tops. I bet they still have the original inspection controls in tact!

    Oh god, I love your enthusiasm and also your ideas how you could film an elevator even when it is nearly unreachable!!! I watch you videos since I was 6 years old and I still love these fascinating machines! (I always annoy my friends and family with the technic that is needed to bring people up and down safely, when we ride an elevator.) A big Thanks to you for making me understand these machines! (I‘m now able to construct relay circuits on my own, which I already did when I was bored in school (but normally I love school really much)). It always gets better and better!!! Thank you so much Mr. Matt for so many years bringing up your time and effort for high quality (not quantity) videos that can be enjoyed by interested people (just like me)!!!

    A trick you can use for reflections is to add a polarising filter on your camera. Hope this helps!

    • @mrmattandmrchay
      @mrmattandmrchay  8 месяцев назад

      I never actually went to film this, just noticed it so we were completely unprepared for this one. But good idea, but I think just an extended piece of cardboard preventing the reflection from the glass would have been sufficient.

    Sad to see these lifts have been left derelict but at least they are still original. Wonder what is the reason for that, too expensive to maintain and/or keep them running?

    • @Lift.Tracker
      @Lift.Tracker Год назад +3

      There’s a second set of lifts at the other side of the car park which were fully replaced about 20 years ago, so that’s probably how long these ones have been derelict for!
      You’re right, it was probably a cost cutting thing. Didn’t want to pay to have these ones modernised, and they also didn’t want to pay to maintain them.

  • @fr33dyfazb3ar
    @fr33dyfazb3ar Год назад +1

    I’m unsure if you can access these lifts, but you could try asking a professional lift engineer to probably try unlocking the motor room, or powering on the lifts!

    • @mrmattandmrchay
      @mrmattandmrchay  Год назад

      The doors are boarded up to start with, you'd have to pull down the boarding (then refit and paint it to the way it was before afterwards). An engineer would charge for that service, and I am not the owner of the building. Before anything gets powered up, would have to pay for electrical safety certificates, any parts that need replacing, etc. Conclusion - forget it! :)

    Those bolts might come off on the shutters. Try a can of WD40 and an adjustable spanner or if you measure the bolts get the exact spanner or for quicker action a ratchet or for a even faster (abeit more destructive and kinda illegal since it would be considered damage) take a battery powered angle grinder. for getting through the open window. Bring a long extendable ladder, Try and find somebody who can do parkour to jump through or see if you could send a small drone through.

    As I'm not a lift expert I find these videos fascinating but the dereliction and abandonment of what seems like a perfectly serviceable piece of useful machinery is a metaphor for the decaying little britain we have to live in. I do wonder how disabled people manage to use the car park with no lift.
