The HK P30 LEM is an Underrated Pistol

- John Wick was right: The HK P30 is overlooked. The first pistol from the John Wick movie series was a tricked out HK P30L and maybe he got it correct the first time? @JamesReeves is at Langdon Tactical with Ernest Langdon himself to talk about why the Heckler & Koch (H&K) P30 and P30L, specifically the LEM versions, are extremely underrated. Watch as Ernest himself destroys a 10-10-10 test with his personal HK P30 and listen to a tech at LTT tell you why you've been sleeping on this excellent handgun.

I wish HK would pay more attention to the P30 line and give us some of the updates they've done to the VP line.
Same.
I could be wrong but, i think the vp9 is based on the p-30 they worked on the vp9 for 7 years.
I had the LEM trigger put on my USP and it greatly improved my accuracy on the first shots and my shot speed on strings. I am very happy with it.
Bought a P30V3 4 years ago. Trigger was awful out of the box. I was about to get rid of it decided to give the gray guns SRT a try. Made a big difference. Has been my bedside gun ever since. H&K shouldn't let these pistols leave the factory like that. Talking reshaping and coating a piece of metal.
I would not know personally but I heard several experts and guntubers say that the triggers suck because when making a gun H&K always are thinking about military requirements first, civ market second if at all. Thats why their triggers suck because militaries tend to lean towards shitty triggers (see milspec AR15 triggers) since its more safe then light/custom triggers in their opinions.
Its not just your gun, H&K has shitty triggers across their lineup almost.
Kinda just a little bitch if you can't handle their triggers

Crazy that HK is now an underrated brand. They don’t generate a ton of hype but they are still one of the best to ever make guns
I would said for theire rifle yes! But theire pistols are not top notch for me
@@hrldp4394Their pistols are amazing. Ergonomic and like he was talking about, Todd Green to a high round test of the p30 and the g19 and the P30 smoked it.
My EDC is a HK P30sk LTT LEM. If I was starting my pistol journey all over again P30 LEM would be first purchase above my PX4, Glock, 92, P07, C2 or etc. Ergonomics are exceptional, controls are already ambi, magazines are plentiful (but not cheap), Sub 30 oz. carry weight, snag free with LEM, and once you get past HK’s horrible OEM DA/SA trigger somehow, it’s a joy to own.
I have owned all the firearms you listed and many more. I wish I had tried my P30SK LEM first as well. 🤦♂️
I have the P30 LTT and P30sk LTT. Fantastic pistols, and the LEM is fantastic.
Why do you care of ambi controls ? Is it because you're a lefty ?
@@tempofugo168 Yes, I shoot left-handed. The magazine release button location (standard on left-side) is usually the biggest failure point (dropped mags) on certain pistols of mine that are not reversible. HK ambi magazine release paddles are completely out of the way until needed. An ambi slide release is a plus but not necessary, and if designed wrong as an afterthought causes more problems than it solves..
What exactly do u mean by “once u get past HK’s OEM double action/single action trigger”?
I have a P30L and a P30sk, both LEMs....two of my favorite pistols and so much fun to shoot. I think this is one of those pistol designs that still holds up so many years later.
94‘000 rounds…insane
Smells like…..bullsh*t.
I have been waiting for TFBtv to acknowledge the superior LEM trigger for years. Thanks James ❤
The P30 ergonomics are outstanding!
I’ve got Langdon PX4s,92s and P30s. Love them all. The PX4 is the softest shooting by far. But as someone reared on Glocks and striker fired platforms, I perform the best with the P30s. Mine are all LEM and I chose the “extra light” trigger option. I’ve got nearly 4K through one of them, have cleaned it only twice and have had zero failures. In terms of maintenance they are second to none. Great guns. Supremely underrated.
Similar experience as well.
💯
The LEM does with a hammer exactly what the Walther P99 does with a striker. And no one on RUclips has ever compared them to each other.
Thank you! Exactly! You can either have DA/SA or don’t decock and you have a long light SA followed by normal SA shots.
I feel like no one knows about it.
The Walther trigger has been the best trigger since the early 90s but no one has ever noticed or commented about that either
Exactly! I carry a P99c AS most days, and I'd really like to see such a comparison.
I don’t think so. I’m assuming you’re talking about the AS variant. That just makes the P99 function like a DA/SA. The LEM is more like a drawn out two stage trigger. Unlike the AS or DA/SA the LEM is still one trigger pull, like a striker, but with a better break.
@@K-bob_45 read my first comment. The AS P99 has 3 triggers. DA/SA, Long SA/SA, or SAO. The long, 4 lb SA is like the LEM
@@Sig_P229 I see what you’re saying now. I only remembered the decocked setting. Most of my experience is on the QA
I have the LEM p30 I'm about to send to LTT for a slide cut and I couldn't agree more.
I got a P30V3 a couple years ago and did a grey guns trigger job with the flat face trigger and it’s a perfect gun. It eats any ammo type I put in it, it never has any malfunctions or issues. Couldn’t recommend it enough if you like DA/SA guns, if you like strikers try the VP9 match or tactical if you want a do it all pistol
Good that you giv them a bit more exposure. The Langdon Tactical (LTT) channel is full of great videos, especially how to master DA/SA, top drills. They need some more subs.

Best video you have done in a while. Thanks. Literally don’t know much about HK.
Been curious about the P30 series for a while, but as far as polymer DA/SA pistols go, the CZ P07 and P09 have been great for me for many years now.
Not a fan of the role pins but they're solid and withstood military trials, used by the Czech paratroopers if I'm not mistaken.
Picked up a P09 a few months back for stupid cheap (299.00) with the Omega trigger. It is better than my P30V3 was out of the box.
Is the P07/P09 hammer fired?
@@Motorman3538 yes.
As someone that went from CZ to HK, you'll like the P30 series more than the P-07/09. The frame feels a lot better when shooting it & you have more traction than you do with the P-07/09 (which, in my opinion, are slick as shit)
Gotta love the proof marks on German guns.
They are the coolest
Please please start working on HK45s!
P30 is second only to the USP. Fantastic gun.
P30 is far superior to the USP
@@rhettdean4641 in terms of ergos and pic rail, yes, all others, IMO, no.
@@sorryocifferwhat is superior with the USP??
@@Catgat37 Durability. There is no harder tested handgun than the USP.
@@sorryocifferbetter ergonomics, better rail, better mags, better size, ambidextrous. I get the love for the USP and the Mark 23 is my favorite pistol. But the P30 beats them by miles. It's the modernized USP and the full realization of what the P2000 was going for
I've had a P30sk LE for years. Never had a malfunction. Absolutely love the trigger.
Favourite word of all gun youtube people: This "PARTICULAR" one...
and or HOW-EVERR
Oh, I thought it was ambidexTRIous
No, nothing beats the use of the word ‘tactical’, and only the misuse and abuse of the word ‘platform’ comes close.
Nice review and outstanding gunsmith.
Love HK pistols and their LEM triggers. I've been contemplating sending my HK 45c LEM into LTT for a trigger job and optics cut. Just need to get off my duff and send it in.
Ernest perfects guns, I am sending mine in, and my LTT px4 is here on Tuesday
They should do a Langdon Tactical Mk. 23
I’ve got a DA/SA P30SK that I’ve thought about sending to LTT, but I like it fine the way it is.
I own a highly modified HK P30L with the LEM trigger. I put the 4.1 trigger with the grey guns short reset for it. Really nice.
Absolutely love my P30L from Langdon - easily my all time favorite carry gun
I slept on the LEM for way too long. Recently picked up a used P30SK LEM in a pawnshop and it is phenomenal. The 17 round mags with pinky extension makes this one of the best carry options I have ever come across.
17 rounds in a sk mag?
@@noway6633 yup. They now have 17 rounders with the extended baseplate that comes out about an inch further than the 10 round pinky baseplate.
@@noway6633 Yep, that's what I carry. It (17 round mag) comes like that specifically for the SK; it's not just an aftermarket X-grip that slides onto a regular 17 round mag..
The standard flush mags they produce now, are 12 rounders too.
I love my P30L. I did everything Langdon offers except for the red dot cut myself years ago. Although, it's nice to see a good company making a great gun better.
HK needs to update this with an optic cut and better trigger and grip texture
Just received my PX4 from Langdon Friday. Can’t run a full mag reliably. Going back
My LTT PX4's had some failures to return to battery and stovepipes initially but cleared up eventually when I started using more 124gr NATO spec ammo instead of 115gr (& my PX4's definitely dont like steel-case) and also lubed it up more. Basically mine needed a break-in period of about 300 rounds, but I didn't know that going in.
@@SectionChief I tried multiple types of ammo. And put 250 rounds through it with zero improvement in feeding. No stovepipes for me, just failure to feed/go into battery. And it was consistent. 50% of the rounds fired had a failure.
@@PaulyP_13 I hear you! Most of mine were failure to feed/battery so I understand exactly what you're experiencing. The only other 'suggestion' is to be mindful of where your thumbs are in relation to that big/tall slide. Pretty easy to ride it and slow down that return, whereas with other pistols (i.e. Glock) it wouldn't matter..
If shooting the pistol one-handed, reduces or negates the feeding problems entirely then it may be the support hand thumb inducing the problem when shooting two-handed. To this day I occasionally induce malfunctions, especially when shooting 2011's, and cause the return to battery to be slow/sloppy and realize it's my thumb doing it not, the ammo or the pistol. I am also left-handed so that doesn't help either since that side of the slide (ejection port side) is not as smooth as the other side of the slide.
@@SectionChief tried different grips, thumbs placements, limp wristing, one handed. Nothing improved the issue. They are on the hook for this one
Incredibly underrated. I have two from Langdon Tactical (one P30, one P30SK) and I carry both depending on clothes. Perfect carry pistol, IMHO.
I also have the PX4. they are about equal in my opinion.
I have an HK45 v7 LEM, one of my favorite guns of all time, perfect bear pistol for hiking, absolutely love the trigger. Next gun on my list is the LEM p30.
Lol I can dream about getting groups like this even when I am slow firing :D
I have a P30SK LTT LEM. It’s basically a subcompact size with great ergonomics. I find it’s best to pull straight through to the “wall” instead of focusing on the initial take up and hammer movement. When doing that it reminds me somewhat of a Glock trigger. I also have a P30L in DA/SA. That one has a pretty heavy DA but the SA is not bad. It’s very accurate. It’s another one you can’t baby the trigger, just pull straight through. They’re combat style pistols.
I have a P30L da/SA and I have 27,000 rounds through it on all original springs. Not a single malfunction or stoppage. The trigger that everyone whines about gets significantly better with use. It's not my only handgun or my favorite, but if it has to work and can not break down. That's the gun I choose.
I have a P30SK I have wanted a red dot on. The panels are great to fit the grip.
Had a buddy who put himself in debt buying a P30L. Absolutely hated the trigger. I'll definitely try the LEM version though, because the first trigger pull on the normal P30L is passable for a safety standpoint. But the reset and clunkiness for follow-ups, along with the price tag left me questioning my friends life choices
I went back and forth on p30 or vp9 ended up with a vp9 and love it!
I'm on the P30 stage sitting on a stack of P30/VP9 mags thinking about getting a VP9. Unfortunately, I missed the four free mags promo. 🙄
Same thing I did. At the time being newer to shooting it was the right call
Now that I've got a lot more experience wish I had the DA/SA. But now that I know what I want and have the full size vp9. I'll get the p30sk, eventually. Though if tfb keeps making these type of videos the price isnt ever gonna come down 😅 been holding out hoping they'd be a little cheaper if they ever drop the stack and a half that was suppose to be coming.
This was my dream gun when I first started conceal carrying 10 years ago. Never picked one up. Maybe I will sometime. Held one a bunch! Best feeling gun in the hand besides the PPQ and PDP.
Love my P30L v3. The trigger is over exaggerated it’s not bad. Grayguns it if you hate it that much but after a few thousand rounds it loosens up a lot.
My EDC is a P30skV3 with the GreyGuns flat trigger, and their SRT I installed myself. I also have a grey market P30L SD.
Excellent pistol. Have it in most variants.
Ernest is a wizard with a handgun.
Definitely underrated! Absolutely love my p30
I'm still sticking with my USP in .45 ACP.
Also; sweet baby jesus, there are a LOT of spambots in the comments today.
Yea what's going on with the spam bots commenting? How is that going to benefit them?
@@benrent6625 There will always be idiots who click the links in the bot profiles...
Love the P30, but you can't go wrong with the USP.
Wildly under-appreciated. My P30SK and P30L will eat anything. They DO. NOT. MALFUNCTION.
I love both the P30sk LEM and Beretta PX4 Compact Carry. The PX4 has super soft recoil but the P30sk has been the more reliable of the two.
I just wish HK would release a P30L OR or P30 OR variant. Factory optic ready would be incredible.
I would love for Langdon Tactical to get their hands on a PDP PRO. It already has a great trigger but I would love to see their magic on it.
Own 2 P30L's V1 and V3, will be getting the Langdon treatment for both
Great guns, the reason they are underrated is that they are a pain / expensive to get milled for a red dot.
I always wanted this gun. I carried a P2000 with the LEM trigger in .40 for over 15 years in the Border Patrol. It was extremely accurate and I didn’t mind the trigger. I always hoped we’d switch to the P30 but then striker fired guns became the rage and we finally switched a couple years ago but to a G19 or G47. I went G19 and I hate it.
Langdon has just about all the Axis nations covered for upgrades.
😂😂😂😂
Really enjoyed, thanks
LTT P30L DA/SA owner. Its awesome
I carried a P2000 LEM for many years and absolutely despised that trigger. Surprised anyone likes it.
Love my P30S V3 - standard trigger. (Yes, I said it = standard trigger.)
We only saw James from the waist up. TFB TV videos are always better with gun shorts.
Had no idea that James was “Yeah-Yeah” from the sand lot until this episode.
Any idea when the vp9cc is coming to the US?
That is the one I am waiting for.
Probably 2028 at the rate HK moves. 😢
There's not even so much as a whisper yet of it coming here. I really want it, but I will probably end up buying a P365 since you can actually get one.

I had one, I didn't like the stock LEM trigger. The pre-travel has almost no weight to it and stacks too much right before break. I should have tried aftermarket tweaks like this. The P30 itself though is amazing.

I hated the standard p30. Hated the sight, hated the trigger, hated to have brass on my face and that lever just next to the hammer, the relaese button on the trigger guard...
If the P30 had a better trigger, it would be a hall of fame gun.
P30 is great. Shame HK refuses to make a factory version of it that is optic ready.
One of the best grips on any handgun, but the trigger even the LEM leaves a lot to be desired.
