I graduate from architecture school in a month, and I went through negative talk both from myself and from colleagues and some professors for the entire journey. literally telling me I'm not good enough or that I should drop out. it wasn't smooth sailing and I even failed a few subjects that pushed me back for 2 whole years (yes, I'm in my 7th year instead of the regular 5), I just wanted to say even if everyone's is telling you you're not good enough, don't believe them, if you're passionate enough about architecture you'll go through it even if it's hard. i would have done myself a great service if I didn't talk myself down the whole time. and I failed to realize that it was their opinion and not facts. for anyone that is struggling right now, you are amazing and you can definitely do it! YOU. CAN. DO. IT.!!
Being slightly older 🤫 than the average college student today, I love how you opened about mindset; it kind of surprised me and I loved it. Good job & thank you!
Hey everyone! I apologise for not uploading for a while. I actually moved to a studio flat and I had a few deadlines with uni as well. But I am so excited for the summer break as I have soooooo many videos planned :D Also, check out the vlog channel if you want to see behind the scenes, studio vlogs and studio flat tour at: ruclips.net/channel/UCJ_iFIQFGb-GOeHfcS0VSWA
anyone who is planning to study architecture... y'all better start learning how to use photoshop, illustrator, Revit, ArchiCAD, AutoCAD, Sketchup, Lumion and if you can learn more advanced programs such as 3Dmax go for it. It's not what it used to be if u suck with the programs you will have a hard time. I'm talking from my own experience. Good luck to anyone who is planning on going that path.
I don't think learning 3Ds max is necessary when you are starting out. You can get similar results using less advanced software. Most of my tutors don't really care for realistic renders while collage and abstract renderings are encouraged
@@SurvivingArchitecture I agree it's not necessary but if the student is good with the other programs and wants to do more realistic renders they should go for it. The more programs the better :-)
You can get realistic renders using vray or Lumion via Sketchup or Revit or other software. 3Ds max is painfully complex and will be ineffective use of time to try and learn it while in uni. If you're good using the previous software mentioned, working on your design, your concept, presentation styles, etc is far far more effective.
@@SurvivingArchitecture of course it's up to the user's whatever they prefer, I usually spend my summers learning the programs fully. This is just my opinion.
This is cool! Right on time. I'm hopefully starting Architectural Engineering School this month. Wish you post more useful videos like this one for us. :)
Sometimes i regret that when i went to architecture school, i didn't prepare myself and didn't seek as much information as possible. That's why i failed so many times and need to re-take some classes either to fix the grade or just to learn all over again. Procrastination is a huge problem. Now i'm finishing my final project, and hopefully the results are satisfactory.
Every beginner MUST WATCH this video😊 So well put!!! You've come really a long way ❤ Last liness were so touching. Thankyou for inspiring always. Also, loved how your hijaab and outfit matches with the background overall 😍😍
wow you are so gorgeous , you always give me inspiration to work ,thank you drear Rasha , I'm really happy to see a strong Muslim woman who has a large RUclips channel who cares about architecture tutorials .
Finishing my third year next semester!! Definitely gonna spend this break trying new softwares and practicing techniques in the softwares I already know. Also, I gotta practice my rendering like rendering by hand. I’m good but I wanna be great lol
I am starting my M.Arch. program in August (my undergrad degree is in Finance) and I am glad that I happened upon your channel. Although this was a very helpful video, I have to admit that it also overwhelmed me a bit because I want to be as prepared as I can be, and thus, I feel a need to do everything you listed. Also, I cannot imagine I will have the energy to stop the negative self-talk and do everything else as well. Oy. I noticed that you said nothing about math skills...at what level does one need to be for architecture school (either grad or undergrad)? I am, however, looking forward to the new challenges.
Hi Edward! I am sorry that you felt overwhelmed after watching this video as that was not my intention. Everything I mentioned was the ideal "perfect" situation but I know that it is not realistic for every student. So, don't feel the need to check everything off my list, instead, focus on your "weaker" areas/areas that you'd like to explore. As for math, I didn't mention it because I didn't use math extensively in undergraduate or postgrad. Simple math like adding, subtracting and multiplying is what I generally used. All the best in your program and if you need anything at all, let me know! I've also just uploaded this video that might help: ruclips.net/video/oth3NVwfp9Y/видео.html
I know it's unrelated to the video but what impact does architecture have, beyond "The layout of the space to the material finishes contributing towards occupant health, mood, and productivity." Can Architecture help solve social problems like poverty, inequality, segregation, etc and how?
1:08 Kaufman House/ Falling Water House by Frank Lloyd Wright. 💖 BTW, I'm now a little bit confident to enter Architecture School. 😊 Very helpful video. Thank you so much, Rasha! 🤗❤️ Stay safe, girl.
Architecture school felt like such a huge scam to me, lol. It's just that I was doing it wrong. It is important to have fun while working on your designs. When I am about to cry, I would often take a break even if my work was incomplete.
@@SurvivingArchitecture seriously no one speaks positive about architecture and it's journey, but when you said everything positive which I really wanted to hear.. I'm relieved 😌❤️
I am only high school student, byt I am interested in archidecture and i would like to study it one day. Can anyone recommend me any free program, that I should install? (Free, because as high school student, I don`t have much money)
Dude I've been struggling with ADHD and Dyslexia while in School for 3 years. No one cares because u still have to produce. I think it's our fate to be unhappy as creative people. Sad.. It's never enough, never good enough. It's just exhausting.
I am sorry that you are going through that. I have a friend that has Dyslexia and he gets a lot of support from the university. 10 days automatic extension to any assignment and more time on exams and such. It might be worth communicating with your tutor and advisor to see what type of support they offer. Don't give up! You are good enough.
