I find it crazy how every photography RUclipsr's videos are so professionally filmed and edited, no matter how big they are! I guess it's what you get when you put someone who knows a lot about cameras behind one. Great vid!!!!
Hey thank you Nico! Video is my main area of expertise and I’ve been experimenting with film photography recently and it’s been a lot of fun! Thanks for watching! 🙌
That shutter sound is actually mainly the mirror! If you flip the mirror up with mirror lockup then you'll onyl hear a small click when you fire the shutter!
You can get the camera aroma fixed with light ozone over 2-24 hours. Use a 20 dollar ozone generator and enclose the camera in a small space like a bucket or box. The key is a low output ozone. This method also takes the chemical odors off of used books.
That's such a sexy looking camera! I always loved ETRS variants. You already know why it's not for me, but I'm happy you got one! Keep using the waist level viewfinder, so few cameras nowadays give you that option! About the smell, I usually get a couple of cotton pads soaked in a pungent peaty-smoky scotch whisky and just give the camera a good rub. Disinfecting the camera after it's been used by someone else is an added bonus :)
I agree haha! Love the overall look of it and yeah I get you on the leaf shutters as well! Yes it’s taking a bit getting used to but there’s something really magical about using the waist level finder! Thanks for the tip I don’t have any whiskey but I’ll try disinfecting it with some alchohol!
Spray gun cleaner on the outside of the box will help not only eliminate the odor but restore a bit of sheen to camera. Just don't over spray it. A light coat will do it and a microfiber cloth to polish it up. I haven't used a Bronica since the 90's. Great cameras. Bronica really preforms as an excellent studio/portrait camera where the lighting can be set. Outside use I found a sturdy tripod a must and best for landscapes or shooting subjects from a bit of a distance with a background with a good depth of field. Thanks for sharing.
Okay awesome thanks for the tip!! I haven’t thought about studio portraits but that’s good to know if I plan on some in the future, thanks! Yeah so far I’m really happy with the Bronica and I got it for a couple hundred cheaper than my Mamiya 645 Super!
Definitely!! And I love using it, it’s probably on for majority of the time except if I do vertical portraits! I did do that last vertical shot of the AMC theater with the waist level finder and it was tough lol
What I found helpful to get rid of the "old smell" or like cigarette smell for example is to fill a container with some coffee beans, put the camera in and seal it for atleast 24h. Gets rid of most smells and also adds a nice coffee note to the camera.
First off, Ye the 🐐 no 🧢 Second, Thanks man and yeah I plan on shooting a video with my fx3 and some vintage lenses, I gotta do some research on which lenses I wanna try 👌
You can get rid of that thrift store smell by spraying the inside of a camera bag with your perfume of choice, then storing your film camera specifically in that bag when not in use. Over time it will take on the scent of your perfume, however there will be small amount of thrift smell hints left but I think it's safer than spraying your camera directly with perfume or alcohol.
Nice!! I was having issues with the shutter not firing on my Mamiya and after reading on different forums, people had mentioned that the Mamiya 645 Supers are prone to failure cause of their cheaper build. When reading about Bronica, I found that people mentioned it’s a cheaper and lesser known brand but a solid and reliable camera!
They are junk, I bought one in a kit, it last 3 shots so I got a replacement body and it jammed up in two shot, a third was dead on arrival and I finally got the C model and it works
great video, but a few tips, with MF the dof is smaller, and ALL the lenses are in the telephoto range, in 35 equivalent, ie 75 is standard for this format (6x4.5 cm), so due to this, ALWAYS use a tripod whenever the meter says to shoot 1/125th or slower, it saves motion blur, and PS use a cable release and Mirror up if your camera supports this, this saves mirror slap blur as well. ( you CAN'T hand hold these at the slower speeds, the format size just increases motion soo much, so, esp. for beginners, as it is film, YOU shoot, and CAN'T erase anything!!- so take care, and shoot safe, also TEST the camera, as these electronic shutters only work at all speeds if the battery is good, if at 1/4 sec. you don't hear TWO clicks, however quietly, the battery is DEAD, Replace it immidiately!, your camera has gone into the '1/500th sec.' mechanical default mode, YOU NEED to know this, as at any faster speed you will NOT notice this!!, so check, so you can meter correctly for it!!
Hey Andy thanks for the tips! I definitely will be picking up a cable release soon as I know that will allow me to shoot in more lowlight situations! And with the battery, I did test it at all shutter speeds and it sounded like all of them were performing at their set speed, but I’ll be sure to make it a habit to check frequently
@@victor.melchorfilm above the back release button on the camera left is a battery check, press it for 5 sec. if the light stays bright, the battery is good, just another quick check, as these two methods are the only way to monitor battery condition; and, like any hasselblad, bronica, or any other body, or battery operated metering prism, if you don't use it often, TAKE the battery OUT, as it can be depleted quickly, or cause corrosion of the contacts inside.
@@victor.melchorfilm one other important tip, this camera has a shutter lock, use it, due to the cable socket and the grip shutter release (a pin on the side of the silver base plate); this is electric, so is a 'hair trigger' esp. in a camera bag, or whilst 'drawing' the camera from your side, this shutter lock is an additional safety to the darkslide, so if you have the slide out, put the lock on. It is $17 or so a roll of 120 developed, so saves any blank frames.
Try and overexpose film stock with one stop. Thank me later ;-) but for real; better to over expose film, the amount of detail in the highlights is insane. Totally reversed from digital shooting :)
What is your experience with Bronica or are you interested in picking one up? Let me know!

welcome to the bronica gang
Thank you! 🙌

Oh okay got you! I think I prefer this shutter sound over my Mamiya 645 super!

Thanks so much for the help!! 🙏
My favorite composition is the mirror shot!!! You have all these different circles everywhere with one or two cubes 😍
Hey thanks so much Curtis!! Honestly I didn’t realize all the shapes initially but now I definitely appreciate more!! :)
@@victor.melchorfilm all the shots were great but yeah the shapes instantly struck me with that one and drew me into the photo!

Nice post. You got some really nice images there, especially the Trader Joe's building. Yeah, these are great little cameras.
Thanks Mike! And that was one of my favorites as well!
Killer video Vic!
Thank you Mike!! 🙌

A "throw in" waist level finder is a huge score!
Definitely!! And I love using it, it’s probably on for majority of the time except if I do vertical portraits! I did do that last vertical shot of the AMC theater with the waist level finder and it was tough lol
Ayyyyy. Ya boi metering correctly!
Yessir haha thanks for the pointer!🙌

Oh nice!! I’m gonna have to give that a try, potentially with some fabric softener I think I wouldn’t mind that smell haha! Thanks for the tip 🙌
Trader joes shot was so pleasing
Thanks so much! Thats one of my fav shots out of the roll!
Love the vid man do one with vintage lenses and new camera's

Awesome video ! You got a new sub :D
Hey thanks Owen I appreciate it!! And thanks for the sub! 🙌
I’m waiting for mine in the mail. Why did you switch from the mamiya?

I remember reading reviews about this camera when it actually was new. In December 1988
Thats crazy!! Its been cool to see a resurgence in film shooting!
Hello Victor. I clean my camera with isopropanol. Fungus you can clean with isopropanol. For leather I use polish shoes paste with cotton buds.
Awesome thanks for the tips Tommy!🙌
Did you order from ebay?
Yeah got it off of ebay from a US seller!
Which lenses are those
Zenza Bronica 75mm EII is the extra lens and then on the camera is Zenza Bronica 75mm PE :)
They are junk, I bought one in a kit, it last 3 shots so I got a replacement body and it jammed up in two shot, a third was dead on arrival and I finally got the C model and it works
Sorry to hear that :/ That's the unfortunate risk with film cameras, happy to hear your new one works!
