In fairness honor is just built from mutual expectation, they have a mutual understanding that you'll slug it out and kill the shit out of one another instead of lie, cheat, steal etc etc etc. It's all about being straight forward and standing your ground.

I'd say Khorne is still the most honest because he doesn't hide what he is, or the deal. You sign up to be his eternal servant, to spill blood wherever it may be and collect skulls for his throne, and he gives you the strength to do it. Can't back out, can't negotiate a deal, that's the deal. There is no lie, but it preys on the short-sighted especially, and for those like Angron who have something where they literally feel nothing BUT rage, they're doomed to fall to Khorne. Yeah, Tzeentch is called The Lord of Lies for a reason, making a deal with him is bound to be tricky and never in your favor, but Khorne's stuff is deceptively simple, and feeds on wrath. After all, why lie to those who are seeking you out and will do what you tell them to for their petty revenge? Why would you lie to them when their wrath will make them sign up anyways? It's brutally efficient, and it will always bring angry people to be his servants. Out of all 4, Khorne would probably be the longest-lasting in terms of active interaction with Mortals because humans irl fall to anger all the time. With Tzeentch and Khorne both, you know their business, but with Khorne the true intention is there on the tin. And that's why it's so terrifying.

Of course when a Chaos God tells me he's not a liar and can only tell the brutal and honest truth I would believe him, for what is a Chaos God if not inherently trustworthy? Khorne would never use me for his sick and twisted view of what it means to be honourable, he would never grind my mind down to it's most simple and primitive state. No the honourable Khorne would only give me the strength needed to fight for what is right and true. One only needs to take a look at his most loyal servants. Kharn known as the betrayer, for butchering his own brothers and his red „angel“ Angron who has become nothing but an endless pit of pain, anger and blinding unending rage. Truly the blood god represents honor and courage.

Much like how in IRL mythology, god pantheons tended to have forces of nature also then tied to things others would find desirable. To be fair, there seems to be 2 sides to khorne worshippers: one more fitting for the description at the start, that embody martial might, and that consider killing the helpless while enemies with fight in them remain to be cowardly (not that the helpless wont be slaughtered once the fight is over mind you, after all a meager offering is better than no offering, but worthy foes are what Khorne truely desires, or death in battle with one failing that..)
and the other side, FAR mroe represented, is the mindless butcher that will kill anything with a pulse in reach, be it enemy, ally, of helpless citizen, all in an unsatiable frenzy
and I think the 2 sides are true, with the former possibly becoming the latter as their minds degrade further and Khorne demands more and more of them, as as with any chaos god, he is unsatiable.
as for the "khorne hates magic", I take it as Khorne despising those that would use the powers of the warp to do what martial might should achieve: as such, summonning his warriors is fine, using enchanted weapons (which is magic enslaved to the steel of a weapon when it comes to khorne's stuff) is fine, but throwing fireballs with your fingertips is not. Because then it is no longer the measure of one's skill and strengh, but of how much of the power of the gods they can steal for their own use.

Going after the weak used to be a good way to get Khorne's wrath but over time he just kinda devolved to blanket evil bad guy.

    • @Chang-u6e
      @Chang-u6e 3 дня назад +15

It never got weeded out, its just that people misinterpreted killing your allies as being somehow honorable, when killing weak enemies who are trying to kill you as not being honorable, just like it can be argued just because worshippers or individuals make choices that are dishonorable doesn't mean that Khorne approves of it or advocates for it, or that he does approve of it when he accepts skulls and blood from toddlers and cripples and brutalizes worlds filled with defenseless citizens in comparison to his 1000 super soldiers roided on chaos coke.
Certain parts aren't elaborated on enough, that's it. The only thing we have for any confirmation from a direction is those who make the lore saying and showing there is not good aspects to 40k chaos gods (Anymore), while also saying that Khorne values honor, while also being hypocritical on how he views said honor as his Honor Code is different to mortals. Khornes honor is shown as "You will be given atleast a minor chance to fight back and if you cant overcome you're weak and undeserving of life" and not "We would never harm the weak because they're not equal to us." they dont care about equality at all.

Khorne is a Chaos God, but these entities are more than just simple physical Gods; they are spiritual entities, being swirling masses of various collective emotions, ideas, thoughts, worship, anomalies, and abstract embodiments. He is a gestalt consciousness formed from various abstract ideas, thoughts, stories, and feelings. He's directly linked to all beings in the Materium, both in higher and lower dimensions, being the physical representations of a key constant in the conscious and sub-conscious minds of all conscious entities in the Materium across all space, time, possibilities, and impossibilities happening simultaneously.
In Khorne's case, he is made up of dozens of abstract ideas like: War, Combat, Focus, Weapons, Termination, Conflict, Wrath, Development, Regression, Animosity, Vengeance, Offense, Defense, Protection, Truth, Push, Pull, Doom, Past, Murder, Duty, Punishment, Pre-Modern, Domination, Then, Discipline, Blood, Rage, Hot, Virtue, Destruction, Courage, Cowardace, Hate, Slaughter, Guilt, Honour, Martial Prowess, Subjugation, Cold, Creation, Monitor, Cowardance, Imprisonment, Above, Below, Oversee, Justice, Law, Rules, Innocence, Judgement, Mercy, Would, Strength, Skill, Tyranny, Innocence, Suffering, Growth, Positive, Negative, Improvement, Survival, Survival of the Fittest, and Superior as well as many others. Although he represents many abstract ideas, thoughts, and emotions, it's more accurate to say he's the Physical Manifestation of 'Actions' and 'Journeys, the physical things we do, making how we move forward with our lives and how these things change both us and the world around us. This means that compared to other Chaos Gods, Khorne is linked more closely to how we and all conscious beings in the Materium physically affect the Materiuma and those around us through our Actions. This is why he's linked more to things like Violence, Honour, Killing, and innocence, things that are closely linked to physical action in our lives. This makes it more akin to a 'Constant' as a part of existence that always occurs and cannot be removed or is not part of any setting or narrative both within and outside the Immaterium and Materium.
But as a Chaos God, he represents the broad category of 'Actions' and 'Journeys' of concepts and abstract ideas, fall under, which are anthropomorphized into a god-like incarnate - in this instance, a large muscular beast-like demon representing violence, savagery, and fury all warriors posses, with various armors covering him, surrounded by weapons showing how we become stronger standing above on a throne of skulls to symbolize his superiority to those who failed to get strong. His form represents the good and positive, all the evil and negative, and everything in-between that the abstract concepts he's made of represent. But, he is not passive. Although an abstract force, he is a "living" being seeking to grow and spread. Which requires more sustenance. Specifically, he hungers for extreme emotions, thoughts, actions, and ideas related to him from slaughter, killing, training, and practice. But, although Khorne is fed by duty and honor, he is fed far more by rage and hatred. He wants more and more of the stuff he's made of (he's referred to as a "Thirsting God"), and as civilizations grow and new species advance, they provide new sources of sustenance for him in their combat and struggles. This has also meant that he can feed on other actions related to specific actions (e.g., the act of raping someone is seen as a form of overpowering another, so both Khorne and Slaanesh feed on the act of Rape or in great debates of philosophy as Khorne and Tzeenthc can feed off it), this means that worshipping a single Chaos God can unintentionally lead to the introduction of others.
But as a Chaos God, Khorne pushes everything that thinks either living, dead, mortal, immortal, organic, or synthetic to take more extreme actions and feelings. Sowing wars to create hatred, fear, despair, hope, pain, etc. Which he can then feed off of. Emotion in any extreme becomes dangerous. A drive for self-improvement can be accomplished by an all-encompassing desire to get stronger regardless of what extremes or hurts in the process. Khorne can feed passively on the usual balance of emotions related to 'Actions' and 'Journey'. It's not that nutritious. So he farms mortal and immortal races for specific emotions related to him. Puppeteer higher beings into acting in ways that benefit them. Driving them to extremes to feed and grow. Although acting very predatory, as his form and demeanor suggest, he also acts as a parasitic force that wants more and more and more. Serving Khorne is to allow a parasitic living idea, masquerading as a God from a realm beyond the infinite higher dimensions, to use and tweak your body and brain as they see fit. Mutation is not just external but internal. Even after the original foe is slain, Khorne grants every greater might and fury making you skin harder and tougher while making your muscles buldge and grow unnaturally.
But another problem comes, you cannot worship or serve the positive aspects of Khorne is the same reason you cannot do Heroin or Meth casually. Except this drug is alive and will do everything to drive its users utterly insane. Khorne is an entity that is not content nor properly sentient. It wants to feed and continue a feedback loop of actions until the Materium can no longer withstand the horrors unleashed. At any time, Khorne could have devoted its full power to crushing the Imperium after the Emperor died. Yet it never did. Horus did his job; he turned the entire human species into a factory farm of violence, pain, suffering, and war - emotions he feeds on. For 10,000 years, he's fed upon the Imperium and all other races, just as he had on Aeldari, Krorks, Necrons, and Kinebrach before as the infinite otherness and civilizations that came before and after humanity. It's why, despite his power, knowledge, and influence, he and the other Chaos Gods rarely interfere with the Materium despite their capability, as, in truth, there's no need for them to do so.

yeah it makes sense, khorne is like a (red) stew of concepts, some very important and mayor sources of his power, like melee, duel, Tyranny, Suffering, Development but others barely synergize for example honor is implied to have been his mayor source of strengh when he was still a mortal, who knows how long ago, but now he is bound by it, so he keeps trying to twist it, pushing his view of honor (the one that benefits him) as the right one, but Khorne is honestly the weirdest and posibly the weakest one of the bunch, for example as you mentioned he can feed of rape, but only as long as its purely to humilliate one, and no one enjoys it, and neither person find each other atractive... etc, otherwise it goes to Slaanesh, Khorne concepts synergize less and are more easily "disturbed" at least in theory all you have to do to kill a Khornate demon is beat him in single combat and add his skull to your skull seat, of course its easier said than done, but to kill a Tzeentch demon you have to win a 7d multiverse time travel ultra game or some nonsense like that, it always bothers me how he insists to castrate his followers and kills those who felt lust or dont enjoy battle hard enough, my theory is that he has a no-betrayal/loyalty /exclusive concept and an strongest/exponential-growth concept so when one of his followers has a lewd thought he loses power, then he loses more power due to breaching exclusivity, then he loses power since he is weaker, his exponential is smaller so he keeps getting weaker... so he is obligated to send a raid force to stop his exponential weakening.
On the other end, if Khorne wins, the universe and every star is drenched in blood, everyone is fighting everyone, Khorne is at the strongest he can ever be... and then everyone begins to slowly die off due to lack of resouces, Khorne doesnt farm, he raids after all, eventually everyone dies and Khorne turns to nothing, maybe he goes to embody primal, celular sized violence?, he is not self sustaining.
Unlike Nurgle who can keep everying in a dying state, rotting for eternity, Slaanesh who would continue its orgy forever, and tzeentch who needs like 3 demons on a barren rock ploting agaisnt each other to remain alive.
Khorne could maybe stay alive if he is in a duel with someone as strong as him for eternity? but then his concept of strongest and tiranny and all the others based on dominating wont work, besides if he is the last one who would he duel with?
i think he is trying desperately to find a combination that both works and lets him live after, at the begining of the timeline, 30k and old books, he has a strong sense of honour even punishing those who kill inocents, at some point he stopped doing that, probably because it didnt make him strong enough, which shows weakness, the others barely changed in forever

Trying to use a contemporary definition to honor and trying to apply that to 40k will simply leave you with the fact that absolutly no one is honorable
Edit: 6:18 Khornes distaste for magic and sorcery comes from much what i mentioned above. In a universe where one psyker can wipe away an entire field if not an entire world, or mutate entire battalions of guard into chaos spawn, or if we go into the other gods, causing everyone within a mile radius to become diseases or become enamored by their greatest dreams, Khorne roids really dont fit the bill in comparison.
While his gifts are definitly warp based, they only emhanced the warriors ability to fight, and never multiply it to apocolyptic scales. You wont see Kharn waving his hand and destroying an entire army in the same way Ahrinan or Typhus would.

Your argument about Khorne being honourable is nonsensical.
"Killing innocent civilians is honourable because the guy doing it is good at it." Is the essence of your argument, which is absolutely idiotic. Competence =/= honour, I don't know where you got that from.
And no, you can't just change the definition of honour just because "It's warhammer things are different here!" That's both idiotic and not how morallity works.
"Trying to use a contemporary definition to honor and trying to apply that to 40k will simply leave you with the fact that absolutly no one is honorable" Even if that were true, that doesn't matter. Being honourable is to live up to a standard of how your treat your friends and foes that grants them dignity and respect, if nobody does that, then nobody is honourable. Just because everyone is shitty doesn't suddently make the definition of honour change.

@loldiamond1017 then we fundementally change factions, such as the imperial knights who very much are all about Honor, but not in the contemporary manner.
Honor does not have the same rules in 40k as it did in the medieval era of reality, because the rules of what is allowed has drastically changed. This would also be why they dont consider the purges astartes tend to bring to corrupted or xenophilic worlds as "dishonorable" either.
If you unironically believe that morality doesent drastically change between 40k and reality, you havent delved enough into the universe. This is even a point Angron makes to Guilliman during the Shadow Crusade.

No entity born of the Warp could be considered truly divine. They are parasites, predators, and beings that only know hunger. They will do anything and everything to make humanity their next meal, and they don't even work with one another, as much as tolerate one another temporarily to ensure that their feasting never ends. Deaden sensation, and Slaanesh dies. Deaden emotion, and Khorne dies. Deaden flesh, and Nurgle dies. Deaden selfish ambition, and Tzeentch dies. What, then, is left in the absence of those things? Instead of sensation, you have contemplation. Instead of emotional impulses, you have self-control. Instead of flesh, you have spirit. Instead of selfish ambition, you have kindness and compassion. Chaos is parasitic, and it is the worst of humanity.
In particular, Khorne is a hypocrite. He does not care about honor anymore than Tzeentch does, he just knows that if he plays off of man's desire for honor and glory, that the most rage-filled and mighty warriors will flock to his banner when they aren't satisfied. In fact, it could be argued that Khorne is worse than Tzeentch in regards to his hypocrisy, because at least with Tzeentch, contradiction and endless change are advertised openly. With Khorne, however, he will do everything to make himself seem honorable and trustworthy only to betray you in every principle for his own benefit. Rage does not bequeath honor, only senseless destruction.

One time, Kharn had such a wonderful time in battle. He faved and slew many champions of the Imperium, each stronger than the last. He wondered why, what was this leading up to? He finished off the mighty Celestine and shortly after, he was surrounded by the Black Legion.
The Despoiler had come for him, he sought to use him in his war, to be his subordinate, to shackle him. Claiming to be the Chosen of the gods; Khorne included. Ha, he knew he was Khorne's favored, he would not be shackled, he would not serve the pantheon, he served Khorne and only him, and what Khorne wanted was for him to claim the skull of this most worthy of foes at last! So he fought Abaddon, to all there, they were evenly matched, it was glorious, dare I say, he was happy.
But then, they came, eight Bloodthirsters of Khorne, heralds of the Blood god, come to stop the match, to stop Kharn from doing the one thing he was supposed to do. The Blood god, stopping a match, and ordering his own champion to become a lapdog of the warmaster. If he somehow didn't know before, he better know it now, Khorne does NOT Respect You.

Dorn is a being of controlled rage, think about how quickly he snaps in the Horus Heresy books. He holds on to his rage until he has a controlled way to release the rage, for either a benefit or at least not a way that would destroy what he is trying to accomplish. Khorne does not see the purpose of that control and was trying to erode that control.
Dorn is controlled rage, Khrone needed to erode that.
Sanguinius is that acceptance of a needed sacrifice if needed. Nurgle was offering a path away from that sacrifice.
The Emperor of Mankind while he was interested in excesses, he choose to remain human. Slanesh was offering rest to a tired soul or to be the Dark King.
Constantin Valdor is the pursuit of needed knowledge and staying true to his purpose. Where Tzeentch wanted the knowledge to change Valdor.
This is the reason why Horus wanted to make these 4 into followers of Chaos, because the four wanted to these souls.

But the idea that chaos gods have positive attributes is mode of a fantasy tidbit that was abandoned in other settings.
You also talk of Khorne as if he is a single, cohesive entity. Personnaly, i don't think the chaos gods are. They are worshipped under many names and forms, (especially in 40k) so much so that i think they are a shifting blob of emotions and concepts, who barely manages to form a cohesive mind, more than the contrary.

You'd be wrong then. The Chaos Gods are their aggregate nature, for they always have been and always will be. There is no shifting, no change, only what they are. This is why Tzeentch can never NOT plot, despite THAT being true change. It's why Slaanesh must always seek new experiences, Nurgle can never discard what does not work, Khorne cannot cultivate or build only destroy.
The Chaos Gods are a single emotion. Khorne is destruction, not rage. He does not grant rage as a boon, he grants it as a curse(see: Skarbrand).

Good points except one thing, the manifestations or sentience of the individual entites themselves are a singular cohesive entity, the Name behind it, however the domain/raw spectrum of their domaine can have different depictions by mortals that are true. The example we're directly shown is Slaanesh's birth, where her concepts of excess, indulgence, etc etc all existed throughout all of time, however the individual Slaanesh who is a fully manifested individual who does not bend in that way was given shape and born way after.
Concepts like indulgence and excess have existed throughout time, but Slaanesh as an individual didn't until given shape and born with a will, all the names reflect that Slaanesh the individual is a singular concept, The Quasar (Used in context of "A Question of can I do this, answered as yes", Excess, the corruptor, etc etc. All defining they are an individual who represents moral depravity and creativity that can always grow or become worse, these are all just names people give the idea of Slaanesh to try and represent the defined concept in their minds.

The Chaos Gods represent positive attributes like personal strength and the drive for self-improvement (Khorne), life and stoicism (Nurgle), self-expression and experimentation (Slaanesh) or hope and the thirst for knowledge (Tzeench). Khorne is honest in the way that he'll make sure you know if you displeased him. Tzeentch may dangle the idea of a succesfull ploy in front of you and string you along with potential victory, only to screw you over in the pivotal moment. Khorne will just smite you, or sic one of his other champions upon you to punish you. He's pretty straightforward: spill blood in his name and you will be rewarded. Fail in this, show weakness or displease him, and you skull will be added to his throne.
As for the usage of magic weapons, personally I think it goes rather along the way of him being okay with magic weapons as a flaming sword that can cut daemons still requires the martial skill of its wielder. Sorcery by comparison trivializes martial combat into a magic show and the skill of the respective warrior becomes meaningless. A magical weapon may also level the playing field just as much as it distorts it. Sure, a warhammer that crashes down with the explosive might of a meteor with every swing is totally unfair against ordinary mortal soldiers. It does however enable a warrior to fight evenly against mightier foes, like the daemons of the other gods.
And as for the usage of trickery: Khorne is a war god, and as the old saying goes: in love and war, everything's fair. Feints, counter-attacks, ambushes and other strategies that do not involve storming into a firing line face-first are valid, so long as blood is spilled. Most of his followers are just too deranged to think of something like this. A good example of a functional cult army of Khorne is the Blood Pact, which employs strategies and tactics to rival the Imperial Guard and even makes use of xenos mercenaries.
Khorne appreciates warriors. But 'warrior' is a broad term. There's the honorable knight who defends the weak, the noble savage who hunts mighty beasts and the deranged lunatic who hacks away at everything with a pulse. He demands that you seek out worthy challenges to test your skill and he will punish you if you rather start taking pot-shots at children or the elderly. Find an enemy soldier and bite his head off. Once all the enemy soldiers are dead, THEN you can go ahead and kill the civilians, as after all: all blood pleases Khorne. But do not shirk from a warriors challenge for sadistic pleasure, that's the way of Slaanesh.
In that way he embraces both the Norscan barbarian who seeks out beasts to hunt for glory and mighty songs, and the World Eater Berzerker who hacks apart his own brothers in arms in a mad frenzy. Khorne is the god of war, and in war you will find both the honorable fighter and the savage maniac.
Khorne is simple in his tastes and demands, but those can manifest themselves in a myriad of different ways. Naturally all of those still ultimately will end in endless slavery to a daemon god that will just as happily bless you as he will discard you life and claim your skull.

I think I've read once that Khorne doesn't hate magic users because they use magic, but rather because "they steal the power of the Gods and cravenly call it their own". So it's more of a "Khorne wants you to fight by your own means, rather than by relying on borrowed power". But other than that as my one nitpick, I really enjoyed this video. Great analysis, like the Nurgle one. Hope we get to see Tzeentch and Slaanesh in the future as well.

Yup, its why he's fine with Incantations, but not Sorcery, Sorcery isn't your own power, you're not strong you're just borrowing someone elses rather then growing strong yourself and thus makes you undeserving, especially if you haven't earned it.

@@Chang-u6e He is, of course, lying, because his gifts can grant the powers that a psyker could invoke with the power of their mind. He's only fine with using the power of the Warp that he grants rather than the power a psyker takes.
And taking into account how difficult, dangerous and often painful it is to properly harness and develop psychic might, it's rather rich saying they haven't earned it.

And if he is mad that some lvl100 BloodyMCManskinner the Terrible can die to a random magic projectile from some skinny sorcerer, then I am not sure why he is not mad about for example guns or tanks which can achieve the same results.

Khorne IS the god of honor, just like Slaanesh is the god of perfection: Both are manifestations of a noble concept, perverted by humanity's own flaws projected in the warp. Honor in war becomes desire for bloodshed, perfectionism becomes obsession. And there's no more "honorable" bloodshed for him than slaughtering your enemies with your own hands, that's why he also hates sorcerers so much.

@@nothing-of5yc 40k chaos is interesting, my suggestion is to ignore anything the fandom says and just read the actual books, and honestly listening to specific Loretubers can also be fine at time. 99% of the fandom regurgitate some youtube short/tiktok nonsense that leaves out either 99% of the context or is straight up inaccurate headcanon, so there's no value in reading commentary on discord or in forum threads when it comes to anything 40k lore, unless you just want to make fun of people who never actually read the novels but feel the need to comment something inaccurate. (The misinfo-chimps have been a severe problem for several years now, you will hear this bitched about for a long time now from basically everyone. The problem comes from the costs/numbers of books making it inaccessible to the average audience to read every single one vs the heavy growing interest in 40k every year by mainstream audiences)

The Emperor is every bit as bad as the rest of them. To give yourself to The Emperor is to indulge in a delusion no less horrifying than any the Chaos Gods try to promote. His followers claim that he is the embodiment of selfless action, moral uprightness, and hope, but it's all a lie. With The Emperor, your life is not your own. You are pressed under the boot of an uncaring tyrant who takes everything from you, grinding down your pride and self-respect until you're nothing but an emotionless tool, ready to unquestioningly obey orders without hesitation or restraint.
His supporters will claim he gives men the strength to keep going when things seem darkest, and the will to remain virtuous in the midst of a fallen, sinful world, where beings like the Chaos Gods run rampant and unchecked and horrors like the Tyranids threaten to consume all of creation. But he does not. He does not give you the strength to keep going, he simply encourages you to deny reality in a wave of self-righteous delusion. He does not give you the will to remain virtuous, he emotionally castrates you. The Emperor and his servants have exterminated entire worlds and exploit countless others in the most insidiously cruel ways, yet they claim it is all for a greater good and a righteous cause. They promote humanity as manifestation of divinity itself, yet treat human life as disposable and replaceable.
The Emperor does not give you a higher purpose and a reason to live, he simply takes away your ability to think independently, molding you into something less than even a slave. His vision for Humanity is that of cattle, cattle who quietly and obediently head straight to the slaughterhouse so that their flesh and bones might be of use to their overlords. He does not love you, he does not care about you, he only cares about controlling you and exploiting you for everything you have.

I've always regarded Khorne's so-called honour as being the morality of a schoolyard bully. He knows he's likely to win in a straight-up fight but that he's lacking in just about everything else apart from a degree of low cunning, so he decries as dishonourable any means by which his victims might fight back that aren't playing to his strengths. There's no more honour in it than a despotic ruler demanding every dispute be run through the courts (where, naturally, the ruler controls the outcome).
Some of the very early material did have "only fight worthy opponents" as part of his creed, but that was Flanderised out pretty quickly, and even that raises the issue of "when you've killed all the combatants and moved on, what's going to happen to the noncombatants you left behind in a world with plenty of other threats?". Ironically, that's now become something that orcs are more associated with, although goblins are usually quite happy to get their jollies out of tormenting the helpless.
