I've had mini strokes in my 40's; my symptom was I was slurring my words and biting my tongue. I'm now 55. Changed my eating habits, but was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2019. I'll be officially cancer free 5 years the middle of next month. Treated my breast cancer holistically!
He's proof life has no guarantees just live every moment fully. Thanks MJ and all very best❤🙏🙏
Athletes must remain healthy and fit after career done .
I didn’t know he had a stroke 😢He was my favorite 90s track athlete! Glad he’s still with us! Prayers MJ
I had a stroke back in March 2024 and was kind of like Mike... They busted a clot in my brain and said I'm lucky, I got to the hospital as soon as I did... Know your body. My eye crossed all of a sudden, and my left side ended up being the weak part, but making a great recovery outside of my memory and vision is not 100%. Thank you, God, for seeing me through it.
@duncansmith7562 maybe the devil
The amount of people that have had strokes in the last 3 years is amazing, young & fit too, almost like a pandemic….
Wonder if it was a strange concoction that people were "forced" to take.
I'm so concerned. I pray it's not related to getting COVID or the vaccine
@@cynthiaholland13 Nothing to do with Convid but everything to do with the jab!
Why? It's the food. Genetically Modified Organisms are in almost everything you buy from the grocery store.
@@the5-starreview871I agree with you about GMO .
But it’s a shocking experience to see this great athlete being treated for stroke.
I will be 82 years in January, and still very active , doing free weights once a week with 2 road walk 7 kilometers per day .
I eat high performance food , Fijian style .
Water , not tap water but mineral water which is free PFAS .
As human beings we all need to know and understand how organic water is beneficial to our health .
Thanks for sharing this information and hope he recovers well and gets better .
I remember MJ and his gold running shoes at the Olympics. A super athlete!! Take care blessings
Im gobsmacked, I had no idea about MJs stroke, We’re the same age, he’s been a hero and inspiration to this Brit black guy for so long. Definitely got me to acknowledge how old I really am, take better care and enjoy my life. I hope this great intelligent guy lives a long and happy life 🙏🏽
I had a stroke 9 years ago. The physical recovery for me took about a year. The emotional recovery at times I still deal with. I just want to thank the doctors and nursing staff for their unwavering compassion.
Amen. The emotional part may take longer
@@Stephtheencourager Yeah, that's what I've found out.
I had a stroke last December. see Meditation For Healing A Stroke how I used alpha brain wave meditation for a healing. It was quite an experience being an RN then being the patient on the hospital floor where I used to work.
Micheal Johnson you are incredible. A wonderful man. You won the hearts of we Europeans through all those championships What an athlete. But more importantly what a man.
I had a stroke 2 years ago.i am a fighter ✌️💪🏾.
I had Stroke like symptoms twice despite working out in my early forties. So thankful to God I am still here.
You are thankful to your doctors. Your imaginary god did nothing. 😳
@@alphaomega1351 Nope. I don't advise putting a lot of faith in doctors. Doctors could not find anything wrong with me. Ran all kinds of tests with all kinds of specialists and they could find nothing wrong with me. Both times I had the episodes I prayed and within minutes I recovered. Nothing wrong with going to doctors, however you are responsible for your well-being. The doctors have several patients to tend. Truth is some of them don't really care. You are just patient #
@eechaze12 AMEN!! GOD bless you.
Me too! One at 30, one at 45. I have what Flo Jo had and emotionally it took a toll but grateful to be here. Glad you and MJ are too!
Thankful to your love ones around you who help you and take care of you everyday. They are who doing the heavy-lifting. They are your truly God actually 😊
Key takeaway: know your body; and if you don’t feel ‘right’… seek medical care immediately. Don’t dismiss it. Don’t put it off. ❤
My father, God rest his soul, around 1985 when I was in Sr. high school called my mother from his house to say he was not feeling well. My older brother and I lived with and pretty much raised by our mother in the home I now own, but after she hung up with my father, she told me to call Bill to see if he wanted to go the to emergency room. I called him back and he said no. Well, that was a really bad mistake because, the next morning he called to say something was wrong. Well, he had a stroke. I drove him to the emergency him and as we got to the check in window, the young black guy said, "You had a stroke", in a very serious tone. They rushed him back to the emergency room area and there, after the full check exam, his life would forever be changed. Medical treatments, physical therapy, slurred speech etc. He then walked like a typical stroke victim; his right leg, and arm, I believe it was that side, not fully extended and his right fist was in a ball with him not able to extend his fingers. You may see a person now and then walk in that manner which most likely suggests he or she had a stroke. Like Michael Johnson said, when any type of stroke symptoms occur, get to the emergency room as soon as possible so they can get any blockage dissolved and open up those block arteries and lessen the damage of the lack of blood flow.
Michael is a golden track and field hero! Love and best health, Michael!
Ohhhhh my God my household such a huge fan of him . Wowww I didn’t know he had a stroke smh . If this man had a stroke , nobody is safe , dude is a legendary Beast ! 🥰🥰🥰. I am so happy he’s getting better , and he’s still with us 🙏🏾
Just goes to show this can happen to anyone. 🙏🏿❤️
Get well soon! You are an American hero!
This can happen to anyone. I had a stroke last year. I was in the best health and physical condition of my life at 43. No risk factors. It most definitely helped me recover being young and used to focusing so much on my health. I recovered by making myself work at it every day. I went to the gym with a walker and did what I could. The first time I went it took me 25 minutes to walk a sixth of a mile. Now I’m doing that in about 2.5 minutes! Im not 100% as before but pretty good. I remember watching a video about him during my initial recovery and found that really inspirational. Love to hear about survivors and thrivers! Don’t give up! ❤
Wow, your on no meds? No markers that were off? Cholesterol, blood pressure? Diet type? Glad you recovered
@@joshgullicksrud3444 I was in excellent shape at the time it happened. Already doing everything that would be suggested as prevention. So it was very bizarre and unexpected!
@@GARRY3754 Glad that was discovered! Yes same. I’m on blood thinners now. If you’ve made it to 70 without needing any meds you’re doing pretty good!
Glad you are better. Did you get any COVID vaccines? Seems to be highly correlated.
@@jasonk4315exactly. No one wants to say it.
Top athlete and top man
I always admired Michael Johnson as a superb athlete and gentleman, had no idea about his stroke, what an inspiration he is.
Get well my brother.. You are one of the greats man.❤❤❤
I’m praying for a speedy and complete recovery for you Michael!🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
This is great. If you've just had a stroke, then watch it. The discussion about small improvements is so important. Don't give up if you have a 'bad day'. I recommend finding any ways to measure your progress because this will help you too see improvement more clearly. For me, I had a task that I would do each day : using a keyboard to type "the lazy fox jumps over the lazy dog" as many times as possible in 10 minutes ( I think). At first I couldn't do very many, and it didn't improve quickly . But it did improve slowly, and that was enough. After nearly 10 years now, I'm practically fully recovered. I'll never be the same as before, but that's ok. I'm a better person than before, more calm etc
Correction: the quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog!
I went through something similar six months ago. I've 56 and been a fitness professional all my life, it was incomprehensible that my body let me down. But as MJ says the lifetime of training, especially the mindset, made me determined to get back. Now I've almost made a full recovery, maybe 10% more mobility to regain. Big thank you to the NHS staff who were just incredible when I thought on the day my life was over. Thank you for this video, tears watching, so grateful to be alive and healthy.
Jabbed?
🙏. Glad you’re still with us brotha….
Josue, its a sign that nobody should take health for granted
This man just sent my 50 year old ass to the doctor in October. Thanks, Champion! Best wishes on your recovery!
Speedy recovery sir
Great to see you are doing well Michael.
I wasn’t aware of this. Very sobering/scary. Glad he had the wisdom to recognise something was really wrong and take himself to the ER. Best wishes to a true great.
Thank you. Had no idea. Sharing his experience from the perspective of an elite athlete is very helpful.
Such a great person. All the love MJ.
Having a stroke is a scary thing,a daily dose of Aspirin can help maintain your body but still just be healthy....very great guy.
A wonderful man.
Absolutely powerful interview!! Bravery and courage beyond belief. Shocking experience for him but thank goodness his fitness level helped him tremendously in his recovery. Thank you, MJ… for your openness in this interview.
I appreciate the message, I had my stroke four and a half years ago right at the beginning of the pandemic. Lost my house my savings i'm alone to this day I've not really received medical care. Because of the insanity over Covid. The first time I got physical therapy was two years after the stroke and I was able to continue the therapy for about six months. Then back on my own. It's absolutely the most frightening thing I've ever gone through or could imagine
One of the best. Good luck bro.
Amazing and inspiring
Speedy recovery. A true legend and gentleman.
I'm so glad I found this video and comments my stroke was in2020 after my covid shot at 45 no cause found yet
Prayers 🤲 for healing 🙏
Happy to know you are now well Michael . You were not lucky give all the glory to God.
Stay strong, enjoyed watching you run!!!
I had a stroke in 1995 but this a result of a brain infection that seemed like Meningitis, lucky enough I got good treatment and it has taken me over 25 years to get back to full recovery, I have a bit of weakness in my left hand but all in all am recovered now.
We should all be in touch with our bodies as much as Mike, and get to the ER asap. I'm glad he is doing well. Michael Johnson really has worked hard through all aspects of his life. A great champion. Really, it must be tougher on an athlete like him.
Much love & blessings to you Michael. Stay well.
Good luck to Micheal, wishing him and his family the best, a brilliant athlete, intelligent and informative sportsman and a classy guy.
This is said to watch, wish you full recovery My Legend
This just reminds us that even athletic phenoms have human bodies, and human bodies depend on complex physiology and DNA. There is a lesson here for all of us: appreciating each day as if it were the last is one of the most important roles we have in life. Michael, you are a treasure, and top-notch medical advice is key to ensuring your complete recovery. Thank you for sharing this incredible story-perhaps it even saved someone's life by encouraging them to act more quickly after watching this interview. Much love...
Never been a huge fan of MJ, because I grew up as a fan of Edwin Moses still, I'm deeply touched and all the best to MJ in this sad moment!
I marvelled at MJ's performances in Olympic Games when I was younger. What an inspiration he was!
These days I watch BBC coverage of Olympics and other athletics meets, to hear Michael speak. His deep knowledge, his amazing insights and his calm, intelligent presentation add a whole extra dimension of understanding. What an inspiration this man is still.
I didn't know about his stroke before stumbling upon this video. Hearing his wise phrase "out of an abundance of caution" strikes a raw nerve, having lost a dear friend recently.
Fantastic to see you looking and sounding so well Michael. Wishing you good health. 👍
Glad you recovered Michael Johnson🙏🏽✔️. Great athlete and human 🙌🏽👏🏽. It still is a joy to watch you race and beat your opponents✔️🙌🏽. Stay blessed, recover and keep focused🙏🏽. God bless always 🙏🏽❤️
Have been shocked to hear this. I am glad that Michael Johnson recovered as fast as he did. Very interesting interview, well done High Performance. I hope for Mr Johnson's continued health to keep improving and to stay well.
Bless you Michael. 🙏🏾
Thank you sir! Speedy recovery and best wishes!
Wow!! 😢 He was a top athlete. How is this possible?
Take care Michael ❤ your are my all time hero and an a amazing man and human
All the best champ. Stay strong!
Wow! Fantastic!
So sad, to me he is the best of all tym. Get well my brother
He`s extremely lucky to have been timely diagnosed!!!!
Michael, Last year August, I had deep vein thrombosis, and very nearly wasn't here, strokes are bleeding or blockage, so hopefully they know which and you get help. Most of us aren;t perfect machines with some weakness somewhere. Atheletes look like they can be most vulnerable because they have to throttle back on training when they retire which can lead to problems.
Love you MJ!
Admiration and respect for you Michael. A true inspiration.
This video came up as a recommendation by RUclips. At first I though Michael Johnson was an American actor or something, then I remembered, Michael Johnson the Olympic track star, but I just saw on Wikipedia, sprinter, I remember so well back from the Olympics. I didn’t even know this happened 😮 I’m glad he’s ok and recovered. He’s still in good shape but I did notice he’s smaller.
True he seems to have lost weight and energy
Thank you for sharing this story, Michael
Great ambassador
I saw him once walking through a casino foyer many years ago, he looked extremely fit.
Magnificent athlete. Poetry in motion in his prime. I was in awe of his ability.
In my humble opinion, biochemistry background, you have to keep your body healthy biochemically. Vit K2, Lecithin to reduce cholesterol, methyl-folate to reduce homocysteine, nattokinase to break up clots. Their is a lot we can do to stave off the inevitable. You have to keep in the fight . . . the fight of your life! Delighted you survived.
Thank for sharing. In the year 2020, I experienced what is called a Sub-Arachnid Hemorrhage" most likely due to a previous head trauma. This means there is liquid that built up between my cranium anad brain that had now where to go and if not drained I would die. About 60% of people pass away from Sub-arachnid hemorrhages. I don't smoke, drink or drugs. I do work out and run. I ended up staying in the neurosurgery for 20 days where they drained my head. I agree with Mr. Johnson that my body workouts and sports are one reason why I survived. My body self recovered. I also got emergency treatment within 5 - 8 minutes of the my family calling 911 because we live next to a police and ambulance emergency service.
What were the symptoms
Thank you
That's exactly what the doctors told me about my wife. I asked about her recovery after suffering a stroke and he said "it depends on her"
No discomfort?
No pain?
A stroke or danger of one sounds even more terrifying
30 minutes from stroke symptoms to hospital. My friend, who have stroke, no tell anyone, then pass out for 48+ hour. No get help. If I get stroke, I wonder if I can do it within like a day, unless it major. This amazing to me. My parents have friend, who have stroke in early 70's. And he fall down, while on trip. This a few day after he take vaccine. Johnson an awesome runner, and interestingly, it seem like yesterday, he take on Bailey in the 150m duel race. He seem OK, now.
I was just looking at some of his races last week
This guy is a badass!!
As a similar world-class-athlete, I'm having similar experiences going through what's labelled, 'post-stroke-fatigue' on the road-to-recoverynnorth of the US border .. !

This happened to me in 2015. I felt my right went numb then I started to fall to the ground so I alerted my colleague and sat in a chair. Now I'm tationed at a hospital. .
Hunnie, the fact that it happened at work. it was the man upstairs protecting you in a way. My uncle had a stroke while driving home in 1997 he was only 42
Wow, this is crazy.
I met Michael back in 2008 at a Burger Joint in San Rafael, CA.
He was walking out of this greasy hamburger joint carrying two bags of food.
I was surprised to see him at that place, but the Olympics were over almost a decade ago for him.
Hope bad nutrition did not contribute to his stroke.
God knows he has the answers Michael talk to him.
Give God the Glory 🙏🙏
Godspeed 🥇
This is precisely what happened to my dad. Three separate strokes before the age of 82. The final one took him out.
I'm so sorry. I'm thankful for you that he made it 82❤
Almost sounds like my dad…had a few strokes in 2007. Final one took him out in 2008. Age: 65
God rest his soul.
Great interview
How on earth can MJ have a Stroke? He is the fittest human alive and he is so RICH! How can he have a stroke??
Великий спортсмен, здоровья ему и долголетия
I ve been carrying for my mom for 2 years now since she had her stroke in 2022. She is 85 and hasn't fully recovered. Her right side is still paralyzed.
My stroke was 2015 left side arm and leg still not 100 but i walk with a stick no movement in left arm and i have fes for.leg im one of them who has part recovery, they told me some make full recovery and you wouldnt know they had one, some recovery with weakness and some dont recovery at all i must of pulled a face because doctor said we think you will make a full recovery. Well i get why people give up i havent, but i get why people do its like all this work,i have put in and im still walking with a stick and cant move arm i was in mid 40s when i had stroke in 50s now.
Man!! Absolutely shocking that a world class Olympic athlete champion would suffer a stroke out of nowhere seemingly!! Life is puzzling!!🤔
He who burns twice as bright burns half as long and you have burned so very very brightly Roy 😊
My dad had one 2 years ago he wont ever be 100% again can walk but not great and carnt use his right hand
