A: Sony a7iv B: DJI Pocket 3 I like A (a7iv) better. But B (pocket 3) has some pretty good low light shots. I actually have both. Just got the Pocket 3 the other day but haven’t been able to fully get into its abilities so it’s good to see this video. Thanks for the comparison!
Agreed, the slight more saturated greens made the Pocket 3 "look" better color wise for me but not the image fidelity. The A7IV seemed overall warmer, which is also good but for nature aesthetic the green reinforces that forest feel.
Congratulations on the video, I have both cameras, I've been using the Sony a7iv since it was launched but when I got the osmo pocket 3 I was impressed with the image quality, even more so when I record in Dlog.
I watched this on a 4K 75" screen and barely seen any differences. Sometimes I prefer B, sometimes A, and throughout the video I was just "I like both, I'd been happy with both". 650$ for the creator pack vs 4000$ without gimbal, extra battery etc. the choice is very easy if you are not a professional videographer or photographer and do mostly vlogging, travel videos, street interviews etc.
I actually think the color on the DJI Pocket 3 (especially with D-Log + official DJI LUT) are more accurate than the Sony A7 IV but both can be corrected pretty easily if needed
Get the phantom lut for pocket 3. Best lut to go with pocket 3. I own Sony A7RV and Pocket 3. For travelling I shoot photos with the camera. Video with pocket 3. Smaller size video is good for my storage. I own phantom luts for both devices.
Nice review. Owning a DJI Pocket 3 and a full-frame Sony a7C with a Weebill S gimbal, I can tell that A: is the Sony, and B: the DJI. Sony, Canon and others would be smart to copy DJI, at least in terms of compactness. Obviously doesn't have to be the same exact design, but with some sort of attached gimbal, and perhaps a little bigger for a bigger sensor and lens to compete, but still small and light. Actually, I find that Pocket 3 night footage (like the near, total darkness footage on the beach at 8:14) actually looks better when 'not' using the 'low light' option! You can adjust it in post, and get rid of a lot of the grain, and it looks much closer to the A7 IV, if not better! Again, nice review, but that music at 5:28!...
I totally agree other manufacturers should copy DJI! It's crazy, all the RUclipsr I follow that go outside to film their videos are switching to the DJI Pocket 3. I also concluded that using the D-Log at in low light is better than the low light mode in the long term review I just posted! ruclips.net/video/9YS8oojc26M/видео.html
I have both cameras i knew right away it was A as there is more DR in the footage of A, depending on how you color grade the shadows can be brought up in the a7iv, yet for run and gun the pocket 3 will do in a pinch and i use it quite a bit as its just so easy to use. For sure the pocket 3 is a no brainer its has to be in your bag, side note i also have the a6700
I have had no issues with overheating. However I'm not doing anything longer than 30-45 minutes at 24fps, I've done 60fps for about same and slow I do no more than 10-15 minutes. I've heard good things about the fan on back of unit if your worried about heat.
Camcorders are the underrated cameras! A powerhouse of a camera within one body especially with a higher model like Canon XF400 or the Sony X70 1080HD our its 4K successor PXW-Z90V. Heck even the Sony FDR-X700 is quite nice. AX53 from Sony also looks cool and it has a built in gimbal stabilization system in it as well. Both of the cameras featured in this video look good to me. Given my current purchasing budget the DJI Pocket 3 would be what I get from these two since it's more affordable for me. I'm also impressed with the footage that comes from it. But let's all remember whatever cameras you shoot with the content also matters a lot to.
It's easy to tell them apart. A has way more detail in the shadows. Sony is known to have good dynamic range. B looks oversaturated most of the time. It's not bad for a pocket camera but the difference is noticable if you know what to look for. Most people probably won't be able to tell though.
@@KaiCross-l5i I have this two identical setups (except on my Sony 20mm/f1.8 lense) and the video quality is like day & night (especially at night) with the two playing on my 65” Sony A90J 4K video quality. The only thing my Pocket 3 is better are the stabilizer when walking or running.
I haven’t got to the reveal but could tell immediately the Sony is A. However, the Pocket 3 holds up well but it can’t match a full frame. A better comparison would be Pocket 3 and ZVE1. ZVE1 would not need a gimbal and is even better in low light. The ZVE1 would blast those lowest light shots with much less noise, whereas the Pocket 3 falls apart in the really low light.
Great video comparing the two! I am so impressed with the Osmo Pocket 3. I recently picked one up and have enjoyed testing it out. The footage looks so good on it! Cheers!
If you had stopped the A7IV down, I would have had a much more difficult time trying to decide. I was most surprised to see the Sony hunting for exposure more than the Pocket 3 though.
I have both the Osmo Pocket 3 and the A6400, and I already noticed in the video that the professional camera (A) produces footage with better autofocus and more pronounced bokeh, which the Osmo Pocket 3 lacks. But I really love ng colors from the Osmo Pocket3!
If you put pumping blur and exposure effect in post to Pocket 3 clips, it would be much harder to tell. Now I know how to make "cinematic FF look". Just pump blur and exposure and call it cinematic.
Huge difference, even in day light. Camera A has better sharpness, and better dynamic range. Color looks way better too. But in the end, it depends on what you're doing. If you're just going around recording yourself and scenes on travels, it doesn't make sense to get the A7iv with a gimbal, I've done it, and it's horrendous. I'm looking to buy the DJI Pocket 3 since it's so small. I have the Insta350 ONE RS 360, and that has 1" sensor but I don't like the video quality. When you do workflow on it, it's so slow because you need to extract video, convert, and re-edit.
You must have bionic eyes. I watched this on a 4K 75" screen and barely seen any differences. Sometimes I prefer B, sometimes A, and throughout the video I was just "I like both, I'd been happy with both"
Yeah, having great video straight from such a small camera is amazing! I agree you can tell when looking but it's crazy that most people won't notice the differece.
Thanks for this lovely comparison. Great video. Been wanting to make something like this too, but you beat me to it. We have been experimenting with this ourselves. We own a FX30 (with gimbal) and a Pocket 3. Allthough the Osmo is way easier to handle in terms of weight, setting up and ease of use, we definately prefer our FX30. There is just no way you can control your shots with the Pocket 3 as good as you can with the FX30. But the Pocket 3 nevertheless does deliver some amazing fool proof footage.
Definitely! I used cameras that were way worse than that to make short film. Here's a short film I made with the DJI Pocket 2 two years ago: ruclips.net/video/y93curpoi9w/видео.html
I really loved this comparison. I knew which camera was which, because of the way the Osmo handles focus. And I actually found otherwise that I enjoyed both footages, each slightly more at different times. For focus, it was “B”, the Osmo. Near and far objects seemed to look better. For color, it was “A”, the Sony. There is a huge “but” coming in at this point. If you only have the Osmo, you would never think that the colors have any kind of problem. In fact at times I liked the Osmo’s color better than the Sony’s…but those were rare. Mostly the Sony was better. In short I am incredibly happy with my new Osmo. Not sure when I will dive into D-Log M and Luts (sp?) files. I am aware that color management in post using that feature is considered superior to simple auto…but I’m not a professional, so auto really seems much more convenient. However if I go and film something spectacular on an epic trip, of which I have now been on four sailing vacations at different places in the world (Tonga, St Lucia and the Grenadines, Bora Bora and most recently the British Virgin Islands). I’m planning of all of them to return to Bora Bora. The beauty there is unequaled. And if doomsday ever happens I hope we are there. I’m certain that no violence would ever happen in the beautiful French Polynesia island of Bora Bora. And with those incredibly light blue, crystal clear waters, all colors are all around (particularly under water). Maybe I’ll have to buy a water proof housing for the OP3!
Maybe DJI Pocket 3 footage was edited with the use of DaVinci Resolve creating video footage almost the same as the expensive Sony. Pocket 3 has grainy footage (noisy) at low light setting but in this video it seems edited. Without the help of a good video editor you can't achieve a flawless night footage from a Pocket 3.

Cool comparison! But the colors look very different on the Sony A7 IV much more warm - probably only a whitebalance issue. I also own a Pocket 3 and I love it but theres something very annoying nobody talks about. The tracking of people or objects is very harsh and its not possible to get it smooth.
The osmo picture looks flat, thin and less rich. Its hard to explain but it is like something is missing in the midtones all super small sensors have this look. Its still a cool camera for the price

VERY NICE VIDEO OVERALL, MAN LOOKS LIKE YOU PUT IN A LOT OF WORK MAKING IT. FROM START TO FINISH HOW LONG DID IT TAKE? I have Osmo combo unit, A1, A7siii & bunch of prime & zoom GM lenses. Osmo is decent. Yes of course I knew which was which 😊 - well done! Where you filming in Sydney, Victoria 🇨🇦 or elsewhere?
Glad you enjoyed it! Yeah, these are long to make. Filmed the video over 3 days roadtrip at Mt Hood, Oregon and Cannon Beach, Oregon. Then it's probably 15-20 hours of video editing.
if you hadn't filmed the pocket 3 with the Sony it would have been harder to tell because white balance was of and exposure wasn't consistent. the depth of field is a quick give away.
It's a good question! For me there's a few reasons: 1. The interchangeable lenses! 2. For photography, the Sony is just way more flexible and produce better results 3. Advanced/pro features: lots of "pro" features that are required in more advanced setups are not possible with the DJI Pocket 3 4. Build quality/weather resistance. The DJI Pocket 3 did surprisingly good but my Sony can work in cold/hot/rainy/snowy/muddy situations. I wouldn't want to use my DJI Pocket 3 in all of those :'(
@@loicba Thanks, I appreciate it. Your second and fourth arguments are excellent ones when it comes to the average joe, hadn't thought of those. The other two.......wouldn't even know what to do with them. :)
'A' is superior. The images look 3D compared to 'B'. Colours are exaggerated in 'B' for populist effect, but are horrible. The picture of the Hydrangea @ 8:40 shows it best, 'B' is terrible. Definitely not a nature camera the colours are awful as is dynamic range.
I filmed the respective LOG profiles and applied the "official" Rec 709 conversion LUTs. The colors can be tweaked, I don't think you conclude the colors are awful. I just didn't want to tweak them for the comparison to avoid favoring a camera...
That's part of the goal in thise videos. I want to see if people can quickly see the difference. It's also why I don't point out the strength and weaknesses in each cameras

Good deduction, Sony is indeed A
VERY NICE VIDEO OVERALL, MAN LOOKS LIKE YOU PUT IN A LOT OF WORK MAKING IT.
I could tell the difference immediately. But I also own a pocket 3 and am buying a bigger camera for a reason :)
B is pocket 3 i can the bobbing effect in the footage
and no bokeh so its obvious B is pocket
Indeed! That's really hard to not get on the DJI Pocket 3
@@loicba put the rs3 tripod under the osmo pocket 3 and youll be good to go!
Hahaha
@@loicba it reduces the bobbing effect! Its a tip given by Jason Li
It doesn’t look like you were shooting the 180 degree rule on B, but it is on a?
I used aperture priority on the Sony A7 IV so they both had a locked aperture but everything else on auto.
I liked B all the way through and thought it would be the Sony but I was surprised that it was DJI pocket 3
A looks better than B, so a tentative guess is that that means A is the Pocket 3?
Nope, the inverse!
Dji pocket 3
¿Cam B?
Excellent tutorial on the lapse functions and awesome choice of music "essence of love" for the motion lapse for the epic cinematic views!
Happy you enjoyed the tutorial and choice of music!
i watched another comparison. The Full frame ZVE1 is far a lot alot alot better than Pocket 3 !
It really depends on what you plan to do with it! All cameras are tools that are good at stuff and bad at other...
it looks like the night footage you had a cap on the iso with the Sony and not with the pocket.
Put a quality prime on the a74 and it wouldn’t be close. The Tammy is just avg to me.
I can only work with the gear I own...
if you hadn't filmed the pocket 3 with the Sony it would have been harder to tell because white balance was of and exposure wasn't consistent. the depth of field is a quick give away.
i own pocket 3 i think A:pocket 3 B:Sony A7 IV im waiting for you answer thanks
It's the inverse!
Excellent video.
Thank you very much!
Even they are pretty close, why buy $4000 ?
For most people, the DJI will be more than enough! As a photographer, I love my Sony A7 IV for photos!
I think I must go for dji pocket 3
I can spot the difference yes. The dslr destroys the dji. However I would not be able to fit this on my motorcycle
Yeah the size is such a great feature of the DJI!
lower the sharpness on the dji on the camera. It makes a big difference
So seeing this, why would anyone get the expensive complicated setup? Genuine question.
It's a good question! For me there's a few reasons:
1. The interchangeable lenses!
2. For photography, the Sony is just way more flexible and produce better results
3. Advanced/pro features: lots of "pro" features that are required in more advanced setups are not possible with the DJI Pocket 3
I wanted to watch it without knowing. Then my brain be like: He holds pocket 3 in left hand and sony in the right hand.
In one of the clips, you can see the pocket 3 in the A footage
Oops! Missed that one, do you have the timecode?
The side by side shots are edited too short to compare
That's part of the goal in thise videos. I want to see if people can quickly see the difference. It's also why I don't point out the strength and weaknesses in each cameras
Without a doubt, I prefer footage B
I prefer B, and I was shocked it was dji pocket
There is am ERROR, the B camera is Sony. jajajaja Anyway there is something wrong because many clips are better on B side.
I'm thinking the same thing: A is a DJI, B is a Sony A7IV
Hahaha happy you were surprised! I did double check I didn't mix them up myself ;)
Did you hold the A7IV on your right side A because your right arm is stronger? 😂
Haha I did not think about that! Maybe :P
The big diffrence is the 1 focal lenght :)
Interesting! I did try to keep both at 20mm to have a similar focal length
@@loicba yes and what i ment by that is the osmo has 1 focal lenght. The camera can have any :)
Oh yes! That's totally a huge difference and one of the main down sides of DJI Pocket 3 😢
I guess b is osmo pocket 3 ,i am still using my pocket 1😊😊
It is indeed! The DJI Pocket 1 was an awesome camera! I also still use it sometimes!
i like A most of the time.. the only turn off is the autofocus..
The difference is in the photo section...
Klasse gemacht gefällt mir außerordentlich gut Mfg Peter Preis Dinslaken
great comparison video. actual footage and not just talking like an AI bot. lol.
video conclusion: Sony color sucks. Lol. And im a Sony user. hahah
Hahaha! Happy you enjoyed the video being filmed outside :)
Very bad stabilization by DJI RS3 Mini... :(
Indeed! I actually checked twice while filming that the gimbal was correctly calibrated...
A its sony. Great bokeh on video….another level
yeah that's an easy sign!
I liked the B all this time
B is pocket 3?
Yes!
B=Osmo best by far!!!
I ready know when I see the videos which one is Sony 😅
If you know what to look for, it's pretty easy ;)
I can see the lake, no toneh 🤣
Haha
LMFAOOOO
Pocket 3 is Good
Yes it is!
The true please dont make me confused shit 😂😂😂,i choose B so what stuff?. Dji or sony in B???.thx before.
B is the DJI!
cuts in the vid are too fast... fail
Thanks for the feedback. It was a conscious decision to not give enough time to pixel peep. I wanted people to concentrate on if they could quicly tell the difference without going into a deep analysis.
A sony B DJI
For me DJI footage is still like video from phone camera. But the gimbal included on combo purchased, that's pretty awesome.
