This vlog felt so coming-of-age. Monica, you just proved that adulthood doesn't start when you turn 18 or graduate college, it's when you make a big life decision that's right for you, despite what your family or friends think.
Yes! I'm 25 and I'm finally moving out! I felt like this vlog really spoke to me in regards to doing my own thing regardless of what people think. I am absolutely stoked for the future...
lets all admit that because of Monica's vlogs, we've all tried a bit harder at the things we love, attempted gymnastics and gone out of our comfort zone because we have such an amazing inspiration at the click of our mouse. Thank you Monica, youtuber don't get told that enough, thank you for all the hard work you do, you truly inspire me and so many others to do our best! Love you and good luck in your new place.
Agreed! I've always been a really self-conscious, anxious introvert. And since watching Monica's vlogs I started an internship with a music and arts magazine where I go to school, and just recently switched careers after 6 YEARS. It feels scary, but amazing at the same time :)
I honestly give you major props, I don't think many people can just be as spontaneous as you. I have always been a more practical kind of person, but I think life is all about balance and I thank you for showing me that sometimes you gotta just say yes.
Monica, every time I watch one of your videos, I feel like I'm listening to a really good story with a life lesson at the end of it. You have an incredible amount of talent when it comes to filming. You're definitely a step above the rest on RUclips.
I agree with you on the concept of feeling guilty about moving on! I always formed really tight bonds with the people I worked with, because I have such a hard time making friends. I was at a job for 2 years, promoted 3 times, I thought I was going straight to the top. But this job was not good for my mental health, so I suffered for a long time, thinking that's just how it was. Well last November I left to transfer to a different branch of the same company and it was so freeing! Again, I was moving up quickly. But new management took over and again, suffering. So I finally left just a month ago, to do a complete 180. I went from retail to running social media for a small business (which is what I've always wanted to do. My degree will be in Communications when I graduate in December) and it was quite possibly the best thing I could have done for myself. I work double what I was, have consistent hours, guaranteed weekends off (which is big after working in retail for 6 years), and I make more too. And I feel APPRECIATED and valued. Change is always going to be scary if you let it. But more often than not, all we need is a simple change of scenery ;)Good luck to you, Monica! Can't wait to see all your new adventures this summer!
As a twin myself I relate to this so much.. Eveyone associates you with your sibling until you take different paths. The begging is kinda hard but then you get used to it and it becomes fun. Have a great new start Monica! 💘
I feel the same way. I have a twin sister and next year I am thinking of moving away for university but I feel guilty for leaving her and my family behind. We have always had the same friends and do everything together but I feel like I need a bit of independence and not be the person who is known as one of the twins. Love the videos
100% feel you on the twin thing. I've chose to do everything with my twin sister up until this summer. This is the first summer we will spend living apart. We have separate internships about an hour and a half away. It's really weird, but the sense of independence is amazing.
I went to church and school with a set of twins and they are a lot like you two. They did everything together.....same sports teams, college, they lived together, taught at the same schools, etc. Then in the last year one the twins met a guy, fell in love, got married, and moved away. People were actually mad at her for "ditching her sister". I was baffled. I grew up an only child so I don't know what is like to have a sister but I couldn't understand how someone could get mad at someone living their own lives. I think this will be good for you and Shelby! People just need something to complain about. lol. And your parents are just being parents. lol.
Love how happy you are Monica you can tell Seattle just brings it out in you! Also you look especially pretty in the vid! Not that you don't always look happy 😊
Please don't find this creepy, but I basically know exactly where your parents live (is never post it online) but I grew up in the same town, may grandparents live in the same neighborhood as your parents! I live in Seattle now too, so welcome to the city, I think you have a blast!!! You picked a great location in seattle too excited for all the summer vlogs to follow
Okay, you talking about how you felt when you quit gym is EXACTLY how I felt and I've never heard anyone else describe it that way! Literally- I feel you.
My sister and I always did everything together since we were little kids (even though we're not twins) but we started school together, even went to college together and studied the same thing and always been in the same class but this year we got separated for the first time and it felt so different so I can totally relate. Love your channel btw! xo
So happy for you!! When I moved into an apartment by myself for the first time (after living with my parents, then in my brother's house) my mother tried to drill it into my head that it was the worst mistake ever. But now I'm the HAPPIEST I've ever been because I did something that I believed was best FOR ME. Keep doing what makes you truly happy! Look forward to all of your vlogs this summer♥️
Monica! This resonated with me so much about feeling guilty leaving things behind or moving on from friendships. It's definitely hard but it was nice hearing you chat about it because it's been on my mind for a while now.
*Why would your parents have an issue with you moving into that house?? I don't see a problem with it. Especially at your age. Can you tell us how Shelby feels about it? Have fun, Monica x*
I did the same thing you did for the summer! Moved three hours south to Chicago, into a bedroom that I'm subletting. Packed a suitcase full of clothes, bedding, and a toothbrush (toiletries etc.). It really is no big deal. Glad we're on the same wavelength for the summer though! Wishing you well!!
I was really good at track in high school... going to states, breaking records, etc., but I didn't want to run in college. People constantly made me feel guilty about stopping after high school. Just remember that you're the only one living your life and it's important to do what's best for you :)
Monicaaa this is literally why I love your videos (besides the awesome editing of course), you are not afraid to be open and vulnerable and reflect on your feelings and share :) I can relate to this so much since I have a sister who is only one year younger and the first time being without her and doing something on my own was TERRIFYING but also good! I think it is wonderful to have a twin or sister you are so close to but finding your own feet to stand on is too!
So excited for you, Monica! I think this move is a good thing. And it's only temporary, so it's a good chance for you to do your own thing for a while and see how you like it!
I love the format of your videos. In my communications class we learned that you have to sign post so you don't lose your audience and you do amazing with that.
Cheers to new beginnings Monica! I'm moving out soon and I am very much excited to do my own thing! Your vlogs are very inspirational and motivating and I can't say the same for many vloggers out there.
I can totally relate to you talking about change, I leave for college in July and it's been kind of sinking in a bit more and it's been crazy thinking about the fact that as of July 21 I won't be coming back home until thanksgiving, and plus my school is a fun 8-9 hours from my house But I'm also really excited because it's a new chapter and a really new experience and it'll be fun :)
I do watch your videos for sooo long but I've never posted a comment before so maybe it's the time now haha I am just like you Monica! I do take spontaneous choices for too many things and I think it's totally normal! And living in this way makes life soo much easier. You don't have to bother yourself by thinking about your choices many days (or months) before. Hope you'll have a great summer in this place! I'm delighted to see the next vlogs about your life in Washington ! Love from Switzerland :)
It's so refreshing to know that medium to big RUclipsrs like Monica feel a little awkward vlogging in new situations! 😂 I feel your pain! Also, I'm thinking of making a big move soon too so this vlog really spoke to me and made me tear up. 😢 Thanks for ghee great advice, I really needed to hear it! 💕
i agree with your emotions on dealing with fam and knowing when to move on. it aint easy to choose the direction of your happy, so it's brave of you to take this leap. i get you on the awkward vlogging in the new house, i was going to ask if they knew. you're doing great!
Ugh the uw area is sooooo beautiful!!! I'd visit for often this previous year and I think it's time I leave LA and transfer to uw. It's just next level beautiful! Have a blast
I totally get the quitting gymnastics part. I've danced all my life and when I decided to quit I felt like I lost a part of my identity. I was the dancer in the family and not going anymore made me feel super guilty and no longer creative or talented. I love your videos because it's reality. As we get older we let go of things that were apart of us and we encounter negativity everywhere. And also we sometimes disagree with it parents! Love ya girl 🌻
I struggled graduating High School because of what Monica spoke of about ditching things, etc. as I felt like I was growing apart from ppl I had known for many years and it was hard to say goodbye, etc. I graduated in 2006 and still struggle with missing friends, etc. and now a family from my church is moving out of state that was very involved in our church and I was struggling with it since I found out about it...I've struggled with bidding farewell to so many different things because of the goodbyes involved...now I'm struggling to get my things in order to move out much as I'd like to...
The way you quitted gymnastics was exactly the way I did. After one practice i just decided to quit, told my mom and she wrote an email. I never ever went to that gym again or said goodbye to anyone. The last time I´ve been there I also didn't even now that it was the last time.
Dang that place is bigger and prettier than my college apartment, but you've gotta make the best of what you've got (I'll be moving to an even more challenging space in August though).
Okay when you showed your new hair, I was like WAIT I don't remember her getting her hair done. Did I miss a vlog? Took a trip to your channel, realized I didn't miss a vlog. If I had waited two more seconds, I would've seen that you were just foreshadowing DANG
The last part almost made me cry ! You talk about the way you always had to do things with your twin and how free you feel now that you are deciding things by your own ! Seriously I'm so jealous, I wish I had a twin so I can't be alone I can't walk out of my parents house I'm too scared to face life by my own, maybe I'll hate my roommates, maybe I won't find my place maybe Something bad will happen to me ! I'M TOO SCARED OF EVERYTHING and this kills me :(
soo exciting monica! i alsojust moved to seattle a week ago and im loving it so far. im living in capitol hill and will be vlogging my experiences here! best of luck to you!
I quit ballet after about 12 years the same way you did because of a medical condition and 4 years later I still feel guilty because I never had a proper last lesson and said properly goodbye to every one. Now I feel much better :)
I love this! I've totally had the same experience moving to the u district for a summer as my first time living in Seattle. When you said you were going to the grocery store, I immediately knew it was going to be the U Village QFC 😆
i paused when you said day two of your hair, went to your channel to check if i missed a vlog. come back to this one and then see your title card. yup.

I love Monica's Seattle vlogs because she always seems so happy and having so much more fun there💗💗

Laura Henderson This reminds me of the book Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell

Aww , I love seeing you do what really makes you the happiest!🤗💗

I genuinely got excited for you when I saw the title of this video 😂👌
Love the new hair, and I love how spontaneous you're being, also how light you packed - impressive 👌

I feel you about spending 24 hours a day with a twin. It's hard to suddenly do things by yourself, but it still feels good when you're together.
I am moving from Boston to Seattle in September and will be a grad school student at UW! Nervous but very excited, I heard such great things!
I was really good at track in high school... going to states, breaking records, etc., but I didn't want to run in college. People constantly made me feel guilty about stopping after high school. Just remember that you're the only one living your life and it's important to do what's best for you :)
Starting fresh is such an exciting feeling! I'm so happy that you're doing what feels right for you

I really like your new room. It's simple, but cute.
I love the format of your videos. In my communications class we learned that you have to sign post so you don't lose your audience and you do amazing with that.
I'm so proud and happy and excited and inspired, thank you so much Monica, I can always learn so much from you 💕
I love how your vlogs are stories and I love how you narrate over the jump cuts as well
I love the hair 😍
