  • Grow your woodworking business with "smalls"! Often, smaller items are looked over by new builders looking to make a name for themselves because they are looking for "that one build" that they can sell for a ton of money. They aren't considering the cost of the build and the time spent making it. In this video, I discuss the power of smalls. Ultimately any business comes down to profit margins. I'll give you a few examples of how selling items that anyone can afford can generate crazy sales with very little cost of goods sold!
Sometimes we overthink things when the most profitable items we are looking past. Let's change that.

I am a vegetable farmer that sells at farmers market. We do pretty good through mist of the year but in South Texas the summers are brutal and not much grows. I started making "smalls" and selling them from our booth and it has helped tremendously in keeping income coming g in and bills paid. Thank you for this series.

For the distressed look, I like to use a dark stain first and then cover the top with white. I use craft paint for the top coat because it dries FAST and you can use a dry brush technique to not over-apply the paint. Less sanding afterwards.

I don't have Pottery Barn around my area but we have Hobby Lobby. The first time I went into Hobby Lobby I completely lost track of time because man they have way to much stuff to look through. So I am in the store and my phone rings. It's my wife and she asks me where I was and when I told her she said "do you realize that you have been there almost 2 hours". That is a true story, 100% I do picture frames and they have probably have over 300 and I know I killed some time looking

Just a tip to help sell at places like farmer's markets: bring something to do. Have a small, simple project you can work on right there, at your booth. My grandma used to make purses (and other such bags). There was a guy who was always there, and he would make $400-$700 per hour, just whittling a small project. Other woodworkers would only make half or so of what he did, as they didn't have a small project. They'd bring a book or something.

Got a bit crazy here in cali and decided to diy my flooring and painting and windows and bathroom faucets and cabinets. Just went you tube crazy and learned how to use saws, cut trim and so much more... i have a feeling that im going to be watching your site and getting a booth at the farmers market. Ill be in kentucky and they have some cool antique stores where you rent a space and sell your goods. That may be aomething i do for some extra funds. I dont have some of your tools and i may need to remedy that once i get some things made and sold. Thank you for making these and putting it out online. Howdy again Mr. Peech.
I see your sound quality is better now. Loud and clear. Thanks.
Just had to "Brag"....I just scored 50pcs of 6"x6' Cedar pickets from the Cull section at the Depot for less than a dollar a piece.
Just did the math, I got them for $.91 cents each. I've roughly 300lf of Cedar now. Im stoked. Ain't nothing wrong with them either.
And to think, I just went in to get some double-sided tape. But I always check the cull section while I'm there. Ya never know.

Awesome Channel Bro. I've been out of the woodworking game for a few years, stuck abroad anad away from My workshop. You've reminded me of just how easy it can be to make "desirable" items that sell well. You've also reminded me

we don't have a PB here in the uk.but their are some stores that sell items like that for a stupid price.but omg.the prices that PB charge are scandalous, it just goes to show, you don't need a mask to rob people.just a big store.thanks for all your info mate.its nice to know someone out there is looking out for the little guy.🖒

I love working with wood and tools. Problem is, I only have the most basic tools. Circular saw, reciprocating saw, jig saw. Hammers screwdrivers ect. I see a lot of guys using table saws, planers, fancy Sanders ect. You get the point.that
