Thanks for watching man! I like to do your intro every couple reviews ahahaha. Ill be looking forward to your ramblings no doubt man! She bites ultra hard man so watch out!
I am buying the 61 as a boot knife. I do *NOT* flip at all so it will be flip it open and flip it closed and that is it. One hand deployment if you are in a pinch and need to get to a blade ... The weight is good for me 170 grams ... I like weight because it suggests good build quality and the lighter blades are for flipper kids. I do not do folders but this Benchmade is as close to a fixed blade as you are going to get as there is not a traditional lock on it ... liner/foldback/triad etc ... For me, this is an EDC self-defense blade ... I just wanted to see one in person and your video came up in my search. I love D2 tool steel and the false edge will lend itself to penetration into tendons and spinal cord and with my edges, the D2 will lay open sheets of flesh in a *slashing frenzy!* Thank you for showing me that I was not wasting $400 ...
I just picked one up - brand new from a big box sporting goods store - I can't believe they've had one collecting dust for 10 years! my intention was to get the 85 TI, but the 62 - a classic look, and what I really wanted (but didn't want to have a second hand blade) so the $700 85 will have to find its way to my hands later. nice review - an incredible balisong, and I don't care it's NOT a 42, I'm a big dude, with big hands and appreciate the heft of this blade. I flipped the 85 in store, and it sooo light, but not to my delight. the 62 felt just right in my hand.
Honestly I'm in love with my 51. I thought I'd miss the full metal feel with the g10 liners, but the minuscule amount of grip really feels nice. It took awhile to get used to the insanely light weight, (I got this after a year of flipping a k2) but I know damn well that I wouldn't trade it for an overpriced 42 knock off. I do wish I could get some pb washers and remove the clip without having to actually mill down my screws, but it's not a huge deal.
The 51 is actually perfect for balance. When people say they want better balance in the 51, they re really saying they want an overall heavier knife. The handles are the perfect counterweight for such a thin blade. Unless someone wants to say a handle bias bali is balanced, the 51 fits the bill for balance. If you took the 6x and rehandled to the same blade to handle ratio as the 51, the rehandle 6x would be the ideal flipper which is why most people rehandle the 6xs. But the 51 is extremely balanced, just light so its harder to get more momentum which gets mixed up for what balance is. Balance imo is balancing the knife in the middle point on your finger, where both the length of each side of the knife meets your finger with equal measurements, with just a hair more weight in the handles for less energy put into them for movement. The 51 fits that description, on a light scale. Especially without the pocket clip.
D2 is very corrosion resistant, being a harder work steel. But that said it is not stainless and will take a little up keep. Wipe it clean after use and it'll be fine.
A 47. The same series as the 42 but with the blade style that benchmade calls the modified tanto. It flips almost identically to a 42 but is much more difficult to find as it wasn't as common while in production and those who have one will not part with it easily and if they do its anywhere from 400-600 dollars.
Awesome review, great comparison. I guess not everyone can be happy... 62 is good but not nearly as good as the 42 from a customer's stand point. Unfortunately, Benchmade did mention that they spent more money on the production of the 42 as opposed to its retail price, which maybe one reason why they discontinued it... I still wouldn't mind getting a 62 though. =)
@CalviNNation i live in australia so ive never had a chance to check for myself but i was really just wondering if the top of the knife is sharp it looks like it from the vids ive seen but never had a chance to confirm it :) thanks
D2 is not the Handle material, only the blade material. The handles are some kind of 3 series SS. But yes TI is Expensive but on the 42's it was also cast so they probably saved a bit of money on that.
Hey Calvin, i have right now the Kimura IV and its awesome, yet iv been looking to get a bench made for a while, i wanted to know since the Kimura is a heavier bali if i should save for the 62 because it is heavier, or go for the 51 and just transition into the lighter, also i still only really see the 51 for around $250 and not much lower, were are you finding your prices?
i had one of these back then but it was a comb and it broke, and i want to order a actual blade from benchwade again, do you think the actual blade will be bad and break easily like the comb??
awsome Reveiw man , I look forward to getting one of these Beauties , also , just picked up a kimura Bali , and your so right on how Sharp they are , they are surgical Sharp , nice bali tho ,
Well brother, I agree with you on many points. I am going to try to get my "review" video of it up soon. I like it, but not better than my 51 for flipping still. Ahh... I'll save it all for my ramblings on it. Glad to hear your opinions on it brother. I'm not looking forward to getting bit by Mrs. 62 though... I know she bites hard.
+CalviNNation quick question so on your 62 is there any blade play when it's not locked open do all balisongs have that because my 51 doesn't but 62 has a little?
The new T2 is so much easier to flip than my 62, which I still like enough to be my EDC. There are many valid point of criticism for the 62, but I mostly blame the washers.
I have fu42 and even if I Loctite it the screws don't come loose however the play of handles slowly increases I'm not sure why it does that...please help if can...or is because it's a cheapo?
holy shit! i didn't think you would reply! one more question, are there sites to get the discontinued 42?! i've been looking everywhere online and i can't find one at all!
Buy a Bradley Kimura. Only 80-100 bucks and they are well built beautiful knives. I love my 7 and will keep it till i die. just pick the one you think looks the best
It's interesting how the prices actually went through the roof instead of lowering. The 62 is 300 now and the 51 is 234. Just ordered a 51. Hope I like It
I wanted one but 234$ is just out of control and unless they go back to the 160 range I won't ever pick one up. And the 62 is a joke... 300$ for a sandwich stainless steel knife.
TheRealCxixmx The 62 is very good actually. Pretty much all modern balisongs like the Tachyon, and Alpha Beast are sandwich stainless balisongs, and are even more expensive.
Yay, got my 62 today. First impression, it fealt heavier than my Polished SS Kimura and i prefer flipping my kimura, it cant compare to the BM 51 witch like you said kill this knife in all aspect for flipping. I'll continue to flip this thing and maybee its gona unlock and my opinion will change. But, unlike my Bm 51 and my Polished ss kimura, i wasnt amazed when i first flipped it.
Gpknives had it for about $180 (email them for the price). I also got a 62 T for fun (and its safe for my little boys to play with) and the 62T flips better!
You're welcome brother. Use the intro all you want brother... HAHA. Thank you... I am going to try to get some video of it tonight if possible. I've been flipping her and I like her a lot... she's a naughty one on them aerials, a little unnerving at first if I'm to be honest, but doable. I'm thinking I might go latchless on her too. Stay sharp my friend.
The spacers in the 62 actually look a little shorter than in the 51. Not much, but a tiny bit. One thing about the 51's balance though, it can be a little weird, but especially if you keep the clip of there, the bite handle actually swings around very nicely, which helps with the feel of the weight and balance when you flip it. That's my opinion at least. Nice review on the 62 though! I always enjoy your reviews. Very thourough.
I've seen the 62 compared to the kimura in many respects.... I'd love to see a comparison between the 62 and the kimura line. Keep posting the good videos CV! JDBA #86 and 1/2
cool, I like to flip balis that are on the heavier side, im looking foward to get one of these but i hate the fact i can only depend one one dealer. Great review Btw
I think benchmade thought they could get a way with people buying it soley because it looks like the 42, which is a little lame. Like I said earlier, they really need to focus on making their own new designs. I am really glad they didn't bring back the 42 though. We need to move past this whole 42 craze.
Yes militec 1 will prevent rust. Just make sure you keep your knife in suitable conditions. It really depends on how often you flip your knife. If you flip every day like I do, then I would oil it once a month, more or less (I really don't know, I like my knives to feel like butter).
Please answer dude. Where do you buy your benchmades? I can't drop 500 or even anything over 100 right now. My mom won't let me spend that on a "tool" help! Ps. I just bought a bear and sons iv bear song reaper green. From blade play.
HELP!! I'm trying to figure out the value of my Benchmade Bali-Song. I've had it since '97/'98. My college roommate and I BOTH got the same one: The full-size Titanium handle with the hidden pins, Tanto blade with about 1 3/8" of NASTY serration, Sharp "T-clasp" that can "notch" the blade if you're not careful, has the butterfly trademark logo on one side, and BENCHMADE U.S.A. on the other. We bought them online for $75 each back then and free shipping! They were selling for at least $110 everywhere else at the time. Back then, internet sites were usually cheaper BC the internet wasn't as widespread in retail, and the brick and mortar places weren't used to the stiff competition price-wise. There is NO way that this is a knock-off: I got it in a blue Benchmade box. I still have the box, somewhere. Maybe the model # is on it; I'll have to see. This knife just REEKS of quality. I was shocked to see how expensive these are today. Even back then, the cheapos were $20. The cheapos are still $20, but the BMs are like $300! I don't have any real interest in selling mine, BC I LOVE having cool old irreplaceable stuff. I just want to know EXACTLY what I have and what that particular one goes for today in almost perfect condition... Thanks for reading. Oh, and I still have the black nylon sheath with the butterfly logo stitched in and the elastic belt loop. :D
It's crazy how much they have marked up these now. Even with military/le discount they are $70 more than when you made this vid and msrp is over $100 more than 2012 for the same knife.
Thanks for watching man! I like to do your intro every couple reviews ahahaha. Ill be looking forward to your ramblings no doubt man!
She bites ultra hard man so watch out!

They do have PB washers in the 51. And the clip can be a pain. But I agree I love the 51!
Aha thanks man! Glad you like my style. I like to pop those pictures in for some different scenery as well.
Honestly I'm in love with my 51. I thought I'd miss the full metal feel with the g10 liners, but the minuscule amount of grip really feels nice. Thank you for the 51 62 comparison i was stuck in themiddle but now im really leaning twards the 51
The 51 is actually perfect for balance. When people say they want better balance in the 51, they re really saying they want an overall heavier knife. I got one for $80 used!! What a steal! Can’t wait to get flippin!!!!
any way to loosen the handles? got a lovely cut on my pinky earlier and i want to slightly avoid another bite
D2 is very corrosion resistant, being a harder work steel. But that said it is not stainless and will take a little up keep. Wipe it clean after use and it'll be fine.
i just bought the 51bk on cyber monday
definatly one of the best purchases i have ever made
A 47. The same series as the 42 but with the blade style that benchmade calls the modified tanto. my first balisong is the benchmade 62 just got it today!
your intro is basically X4CTO's intro.
Well I’ll say only 3 word. Tru
S
I could listen to ur videos for days :D You speak a very nice english (I´m not a native speaker, but I know it very well) and a very good reviews...
What's a better flipper bm 51 or 62 I have a 32 and its great just I think a larger ones better so what do you think
Totally agree with this guy! Get a 51 if you are debating.
@CalviNNation i live in australia so ive never had a chance to check for myself but i was really just wondering if the top of the knife is sharp it looks like it from the vids ive seen but never had a chance to confirm it :) thanks
Should I locktight my 51 and if I should, how?
That fly was probably an agent of spyderco to get you thinking of the small fly and spider fly. Good business if you ask me
no that was the flytanium!!!!
D2 is not the Handle material, only the blade material. The handles are some kind of 3 series SS. But yes TI is Expensive but on the 42's it was also cast so they probably saved a bit of money on that.

i live on long island and i am planning on buying a benchmade 51. is rust going to be a problem because of the d2. THANK YOU
the latch gate keeps it from hitting the blade. how could you miss that?
Brand new for 220? Can you tell me where please? Everywhere I've checked its 297. Would be grateful for any info.
i had one of these back then but it was a comb and it broke, and i want to order a actual blade from benchwade again, do you think the actual blade will be bad and break easily like the comb??
MDMAzing alright bro I'm sorry Jesus 😂😂😂 and Castiel 839 thanks for the feedback you tooMDMAzing
awsome Reveiw man , I look forward to getting one of these Beauties , also , just picked up a kimura Bali , and your so right on how Sharp they are , they are surgical Sharp , nice bali tho ,
I'm pretty sure you don't remember but yesterday I asked what your worst knife related injury was.
I was referencing that
Well brother, I agree with you on many points.
Good review man! But the spacers in the 51 are D2 or some other type of steel which isn't stainless, because mine have started to rust just a little
+CalviNNation quick question so on your 62 is there any blade play when it's not locked open do all balisongs have that because my 51 doesn't but 62 has a little?
+Castiel 839 thanks that's what I thought
Just got a 42S T latch for $350 the other day. Im pretty happy.
The new T2 is so much easier to flip than my 62, which I still like enough to be my EDC. There are many valid point of criticism for the 62, but I mostly blame the washers.

Which is a better flipper? Bradley kimura series or 6X?
I did get my 51 (check my unboxing vid) and i was wanting to get the 62 would you recomend this or is the weight say (stay away )
holy shit! i didn't think you would reply! one more question, are there sites to get the discontinued 42?! i've been looking everywhere online and i can't find one at all!
Not a problem... I just get people leaving me some messed up comments sometimes so I stay on defense. LOL.
Buy a Bradley Kimura. Only 80-100 bucks and they are well built beautiful knives. I love my 7 and will keep it till i die. just pick the one you think looks the best
On bladehq you have to have an account on their to view the actual price
Thanks aha, Why the hate for the knife?
Feel dumb asking, but what is the tanto benchmade called
hey what one would you rec out of the 60s fam? i have a 67 being customized. did i make the wrong choice?
It's interesting how the prices actually went through the roof instead of lowering. The 62 is 300 now and the 51 is 234. Just ordered a 51. Hope I like It
It's been a few months, so how do you like the 51?
I wanted one but 234$ is just out of control and unless they go back to the 160 range I won't ever pick one up. And the 62 is a joke... 300$ for a sandwich stainless steel knife.
TheRealCxixmx The 62 is very good actually. Pretty much all modern balisongs like the Tachyon, and Alpha Beast are sandwich stainless balisongs, and are even more expensive.
Is the 62 worth the price difference compare to the bradley kimura 7?
Yay, got my 62 today. First impression, it fealt heavier than my Polished SS Kimura and i prefer flipping my kimura, it cant compare to the BM 51 witch like you said kill this knife in all aspect for flipping. I'll continue to flip this thing and maybee its gona unlock and my opinion will change. But, unlike my Bm 51 and my Polished ss kimura, i wasnt amazed when i first flipped it.
May I ask where you got your 42 and 62? pvk only has the 51
At 24 sec the knife moves by its self
Look at it
He prob recorded it on his bed and tugged the sheets a little
the knife is alive!!!
+carter luther its the bed sheet being pulled..
+carter luther Nice catch lol.
I know i was sp confused
Gpknives had it for about $180 (email them for the price). I also got a 62 T for fun (and its safe for my little boys to play with) and the 62T flips better!
How do you get these balisongs if your in Canada I want to know how I can get one :(
You're welcome brother.
Stay sharp my friend.
is the 62 still in general a great flipper?
man that's a rough 42, you buy one soon before they stopped production? Just curious man lovn the banchmades with wings.
Whats the benchmade at the top? Its not the 67, because its a re-curve, ive never seen a straight model. Anyone know?
The spacers in the 62 actually look a little shorter than in the 51. Not much, but a tiny bit. One thing about the 51's balance though, it can be a little weird, but especially if you keep the clip of there, the bite handle actually swings around very nicely, which helps with the feel of the weight and balance when you flip it. ...interesting it says first production 273 of 300...just noticed that
I've seen the 62 compared to the kimura in many respects.... I'd love to see a comparison between the 62 and the kimura line. Keep posting the good videos CV!
JDBA #86 and 1/2
Were did you find the 51 for 160? Aside from forums.
Thanks. Great Vid BTW
hey Calvin, you say you can get a 51 for 160? im checking all the sites online and they all sell them at around 220. im new to flipping
I like everything about the 62 that i hear but the fact it is a T latch and over 5.5 oz
hey is the top knife a 67 with tanto
very nice video quility! what cam do you use?
I’m thinking about getting a 62 what weight is it comparable to?
Where the heck can you find these knives for that price? That's crazy.
That was pre 2014 prices benchmade changed the prices so there was a set price they had to be sold for. Before this places had them heavily discounted
no it was a fake made in china
None of those are fakes.
Sylas Cash I don't know what makes you think that those are fakes.
the latch and the blade learn
Where did you get your 62?
calvin do you like the 62 enough to keep it or will it be sold?
hey i heard your selling your BM 62. Are you still selling it, or has it found a home already?
So should I get a 62 or 51.
cool, I like to flip balis that are on the heavier side, im looking foward to get one of these but i hate the fact i can only depend one one dealer. Great review Btw
the good old xacto intro... never fails
Fantastic review. I loved that xacto beginning haha but I love the 51, and lighter balis in general, so I don't think the 62 is for me
I think benchmade thought they could get a way with people buying it soley because it looks like the 42, which is a little lame. Like I said earlier, they really need to focus on making their own new designs. I am really glad they didn't bring back the 42 though. We need to move past this whole 42 craze.
hello hello long shot question dude do you have any balisong for sale or do you know of any I'm in England I have messaged you before
whats the other bali mate
I want a video of that
fhow does it flip compare to a k2 ?
Thats not a terrible Idea. I don't know why more companies don't use aluminum. Its cheap and light and strong for its weight.
Can someone lmk or link me the channel where he said has put out some good flipping videos. I think he said it was Ckaer?
How many times do u have to oil the d2 blade? And will militec-1 prevent rust
You aren't going to find a benchmade Balisong for under 100.
You may be able to find a Bradley kimura for under 100 If you shop around
I'm getting either a Bench made 51 or a Bench made 62, which is the better knife?
Marco Gutierrez They're both great. Just depends on which one you like better. Quality is the same.
go with the 51 if you want a light weight balisong. go with the 62 if you want a heavier balisong.
Lawrence Torto from Connecticut would. Just sold it on Amazon instead of ebay for 250. ;D
Where are you getting your knives for that low of a price?
In the past
You do a nice presentation, sir.
nice, thats strange you got a first production this late.
I thought you had gold plated blades from the thumbnail. XD
+BPBSniper Same! XD
exactly even though ive never handled one but i would rather stick to my bradly kimura
Can someone tell me where i can buy a bm42??
illegal to own or illegal to carry?
Sharp?
Great review
How much is 47 right now?
Yep.... wanted one real bad but not in canada....

51 morpho, 62, 63, or 67 for my first balisong?
51 definately.
Lucas Bruno benchmade will be releasing a new bali january 3, just chill
Nash Fernandez cool! thx
What's the name of the new one? I couldn't find it.
Rodrigo Ruiz 87
thought so!
Can some one explain why benchmade doesent put pocket clips on most balis
It is easier to flip in some situations. Doesn't really make a difference, though.
i've heard that the kimura was even better than the 6x series
