Gosh just watching this made me tear up. I’ve spent the last 7+ years of my life working on NASA’s next manned rocket, the SLS (Space Launch System)...my entire young career and significant portion of my life. I cannot wait for launch day, and in all honesty will be a complete nervous wreck. I remember watching the live stream as Curiosity touched down on Mars. I was up late making the last finishing touches for my Masters Thesis defense that week, just before I started working in Huntsville, AL on SLS. Mark hits the nail on the head when he suggests that the people behind the hardware make it all worthwhile. I’ve met some incredible people who share that same passion for learning and experimenting with the hope of accomplishing something really freakin cool... Congrats Mark for your work on Curiosity, for your entertaining monthly videos, and recent dive into teaching. I share some of the same interests and love sharing it with others. Your mother is proud!

His sadness... His overcomings... His hard work... His achievements... I feel blessed to know how many great people can be out there, and mostly inspired, maybe, if I try enough, I'll be able to land a rover on one of the Jupiter's moons? Who knows!
This still brings a tear to my eye. In days of cancelled scientific research projects, NASA paying Russians to bring people to space because we don't have a program, and not enough engineering students to fill the scholarships available, this event, this program stands even taller as a beautiful testament about those who still dream of reaching out there to explore, to expand our understanding of our universe. This has to be one of the best overall videos on the internet. Hands down. Thank you and everyone who was a part of that team for the contribution to society and the sacrifices you all made during the process. 🙌
The less than 1k people who disliked this are probably the people in mars who were disturbed
They are flat earthers who think this is part of the complex conspiracy to hide the truth that we are all Flat Stanley’s.
Nah, its the aliens

Probably flat earthers.
This was probably my 50+ times watching this video; whenever I don't feel that great, I watch it and feel the emotion.
It's so incredible how thousands of people's hard work leads to millions of things going right all at the same time. 🙂

Sorry to kill the mood. What makes me sad is that every time something like this happens. The media says things like: the Mars Rover, Curiosity has landed. They say those thing but never give credit to the individuals who built it. Making a great step but never getting recognized. Sad but true.
Yea but think about how long it take every time some thing happend to also say who built it
Edgar Raya true but i think they still should do it
The people in the field and the people in the know, know. It's like being a Producer and watching the actors and directors getting credit. Other producers know what you've done.
How are you gonna name off 3,000 people in a 5 minute segment... Use logic.
Wht a wise words coming from some one whos name is that
I'm not going to lie Mark... This is probably the best and most inspiring RUclips video I have EVER watched and there are not a lot of them.
He is the reason I fell in love with science, engineering, and physics. He inspires me everyday and I honestly cannot thank him enough for being an example of what we can achieve when we are passionate about what we love. Mark I hope you know that people look up to you including myself and that you have made a profound impact on my life that I will never forget. Thank you for sharing your experiences with us.

I've watched this over and over again and each time I appreciate this guy more and more for what he does. If there's any phrase to describe this man from my POV, its that he's a genius and living my freaking dream.
Why did this come on my RUclips recommendation 7 YEARS later

I want to be a mechanical or aerospace engineer and this really inspired me. I can not begin to imagine the feelings you have for curiosity. You have really inspired me to work hard. Thank you so much for this video.
Made me tear up. As an aerospace engineering student, I think I just found my new favorite channel!!! Thanks!
Perseverance, Curiosity is still on there
Gave me flashbacks of spirit and oppy

This video is like the celebration of someone's life when they've died! The photo montage, music.. gives me chills.
I can't imagine what it would feel like to work on something for 7 years for it to only come down to one moment. No, wait...I can. 3:00 Thank you for sharing Mark.
This gave me goosebumps and I almost cried. Such an inspirational video
It's so insane, we extended our vision and scientific instruments onto another planet! I love the times we are living in.

Katie Hernandez Maybe one day we'll get around to that. Gotta work big to small right?

Congratulations, sir! You worked on one of the coolest pieces of technology ever conceived by man. A rocket-powered sky crane working autonomously on Mars. The awesomeness is off the scale. Well done.

That was absolutely beautiful. I started tearing up watching this. It is the work of such incredibly passionate and genuine people like you, Mark, and the people at NASA that changes and advances this world. Our hope is in your hands. Absolutely beautiful.
My question now is "who was closest on guessing where the rover would come done?" 🙈😉
AAAAAND my question is why does nobody ever read the descriptions before asking these kinds of questions?

I'm saying this the day Perseverance, the new Mars rover, touched down on Mars. Congrats bro, everyone felt excitement when Curiosity touched down, I cannot believe what the people that actually put their life's effort into a rover that would soon touch down safely on Mars. This is the very reason why I want to keep going. To see space as a child and explore space as an adult.
Audience watching screens: Yay we landed on Mars

Well they put so much time and effort into it, I would be extremely happy too.
Like they won some sort of best project on earth reward?
