If horse already has shoes with pads on can you still use boots? Horse possibly has laminitis and feet are very sore

Hello Crystal, we are sorry to hear your horse is suffering from laminitis. However, the Explora Magic Hoof Boots are made for riding and do not have therapeutic use. Please let us know if you have any further questions. ~Katie, RW

How often do you have to trim hoofs so it would fit him? Any reason why you wear them only front legs? Thanks!

Hello Nerior! I personally trim my horses myself, especially since Monte tends to have high heels and one slightly clubbed hoof, so I need to keep on top of that. If the hooves are measured after a new trim, the boots should typically be good throughout at least 4-5 weeks of their trim cycle. It depends on the horse, like if they tend to flare or not. I would recommend people having their own rasp to at least once a week give their horse a simple file. I personally do not let Monte's hoof grow out too long. While the boots will fit as the hoof grows, it will become tighter. These are snug already, even when they are well-fitted. To answer your second question, I used to put boots on all fours, but I noticed that more horses did not seem to have any issues- unless it was extremely rocky most of the ride. So I realized, at least with my horses, that they mainly needed the protection in the front. Now if you have a more sensitive horse, doing long distance, or they are transitioning to barefoot, having them on all fours would be a good idea. Please let us know if you have any further questions or comments. Happy Riding! ~Charnelle, RW
