Well, you need to be professional on frequency, and probably for liability reasons they don't say things like "I'm sorry about that" because that automatically put the blame on them. But I bet after a break or after the shift they investigated the issue. But yes, without TCAS that could have been a disaster...
The vectoring at PHX sucks. They have arrivals from the south coming nose to nose with arrivals from the north as they turn them onto final for 08 (for arrivals from the north) or 07R (for arrivals from the south). They do this frequently. All it takes is speed assignments or vectoring to give one airplane a slightly longer final than another, but no - not PHX. Cram as many into and out of there as physically possible, take shortcuts, waive separation standards, just go go go go. Until we have a midair of two airliners and about 400 dead people and flaming wreckage falling to the ground on downtown Phoenix. But until that happens, this will continue. Every so often there will be a close call and an "investigation" with some make believe hand wringing and maybe a little additional training - but absolutely no changes that would increase the price of training controllers or reduce the number of takeoffs and landings at PHX.
I noticed something when I watched plane spotting at PHX. They clear one for take off and it barely rotates and the next one is cleared. Don't see that usually. This controller who created the danger, seemed like she experiences that daily... totally routine.
It’s like a fire alarm or car air bag. You hope it’s never needed, but you’re glad it works when it’s put to the test. It’s never a good thing when TCAS has to give an TA and RA, but it’s good to know it works.
Speaking of airbags, I heard an ER doctor ask her what she would never do based on what she’s seeing as a doctor, and she said she won’t put her feet on the dashboard as she’s passenger, which she has done in past. There’s an image on an article on the Internet of a lady who had her femur broken and hip broken from it as well as some other damage. It’s very nasty.
It’s very interesting there in Phoenix when landing from the west. Frequently planes come in from the north east like we saw here and then from the west straight. Not unlike other runways at 1:48 other cities but it’s interesting to watch from the ground.
That is terrible Lateral and Vertical separation IMHO. Was QNH set correctly on both aircraft? Do we know what their last cleared altitudes were? Good job they were both above 1000' Rad Alt, with both TA/RA selected.
The fact you even need to mention that they had TA/RA selected (not certain both initially say TA whilst one corrects to RA) is damning of the stupid situation that it is common for American pilots to switch it to TA only
It would have been interesting to have the sequence start earlier, to demonstrate earlier clearances, and end later, to show the successful resequencing.
0:57 "I don't understand" Well, the audio quality is not up to 21st century quality standards for communication systems. Wondering when it will be, if ever...
OK TCAS did its job and is awesome. However, it makes me wonder whether there isn’t a three dimensional view, somewhere available to pilots to see all flights and their potential paths. If delta could see such a view of the other plane coming in straight right on the glide path, they can react way ahead of time. I know it’s probably more complicated than it seems. Planes can turn at the last minute or stop turning at the last minute.
With experience you can build an image in your head on where everybody that could affect you is. Targets on the Nav display are also always visible. No need to complicate things. I think the pilots already knew that this would be at least a TA. No one sounded surprised.
The Controller is not flying the airplanes. Instructions were given, and yet the airplanes nevertheless migrated too close together. There's no indication here that ATC made a mistake or otherwise caused this.
Great process and videos Kevin, thank you! Any chance you would share how you scan for the tickers and perhaps your watchlist for the day on X before market open. Would be nice to compare with my own list.
2 planes at a 90 degree intercept at close to identical speed.. That is very hard to spot. For one thing you are looking ahead of you most of the time and for another thing, something at an intercept course, barely ever moves around in your field of view and the eye is designed to best see motion...
I discovered Ms Elizabeth Regina Nelson through a recommendation on ABC News, and I've been following his lead ever since. Honestly, I was skeptical about entrusting someone with my financial growth, but I'm thrilled that I took the leap.
Wow 😲 have heard a lot of wonderful things about mrs Elizabeth Regina nelsen on the news but didn't believe it until now. l'm definitely trying her out😇
What I fancy most about her is that, she communicate to you your progress every week. I wonder how many clients she's got and how she keeps up with the weekly update to every single one,
Shocking really! The only reason that TCAS had to be employed, was because the human beings put them in a position where it needed to activate !! This is really poor air traffic management .
Glad for TCAS and prompt actions by the crews.
whoa. good for TCAS and pilots obeying.. Also cool vid FR24, you got the precise data, may as well use it! No recreations here.
Thank God for TCAS. I live in the Phoenix area, this happens yesterday.
Tcas is a great technology
Controller remarkably unmoved by the near disaster. Weren't these aircraft under her control?

You clearly meant that as a criticism, but actually it’s a compliment.

@@thecomedypilot5894 do you think it would have helped the situation if the atc's response to a situation like this was hysteria or panic?

The controller remained remarkably calm, as if this were just another routine for her. And I don't mean that as a compliment!

If you have visual, you can disregard TA

There is only one controller here. Why do you fell the need to point out that she is female?
Is it remotely relevant?
