    New sub alert.....I have watch all your van build vids and felt I needed to comment.
    For someone that has no experience in DIY, vehicle maintenance nor Van building, you both are sailing through.
    Hopefully this year I too will be getting myself the exact van, hopefully in silver or black.
    I'm going down the cheat route. buying a cheap caravan, using as much as I can from inside the caravan, into the van.
    Ie- cupboards, bench seats, cooker, sink, fridge and the electrics, but using new wires and sockets, and installing solar.
    Great vids and PLEASE keep um coming.

      Great to have you onboard Andrew. Thank you! There’s no straight lines and it isn’t perfect but we’re very happy with it so far :)

    Thanks good work, top tip in case you don't know🤔? you can use a straight ruler of another piece of wood as a guide when cutting a straight edge like your table cut. You can clamp this in place parallel to the line but back the distance from the blade to the edge of the metal base of the jig saw. This helps get a straight cut rather than by eye. Looking forward to the next one 👍🏻🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

    Hi, great progress. Be careful will oils, they can be high in VOCs (volatile organic compounds). If you use solid ply, your mattress will go mouldy. Maybe Ikea slats. They don't cost that much. You can use dowels as locators and you can screw the slats to the bed frame. I don't what size bed slats Ikea does, but you can cut them down. Just friendly advice, we are all here to help each other. 👍🍷

      Thanks Carl. We won’t oil the ply on the bed.. just the table. And we’ll cut holes in the ply to male it breathable so that should help combat any potential mould :)

    Good job you guys.
    Everything takes at least twice as long as you first think it will. ( as you know by now).
    Currently on my Crafter build, my ceiling took me three days to finish ( was thinking a day ).
    Keep up the good work 👍

    The slides weight ratings are when used vertically, installing them on their flat side considerably reduce their strength; I would try to figure a way to install them correctly, lot of van builders do so, and the table assembly is not that thick after all.

    • @CallumTash
      @CallumTash  4 года назад

      Yes, this is on our agenda. We need to have a good think as to how we're going to approach it

  • @BruceLauderdale
    @BruceLauderdale 4 года назад +1

    Hi Callum and Tash, those runners are designed to fit on the side of the drawer. Putting them that way will not have a 45kg weigh rating. I hope it’s all sorted. Van is looking good.

    • @CallumTash
      @CallumTash  4 года назад

      Haha yes... that’s ok as we’ll come up with a table leg solution :p

  • @JimNicho
    @JimNicho 4 года назад +1

    One thing you could potentially look at for increased rigidity on your table is to run 2 strengthening pieces of timber along the bottom and actually mount your drawer slides vertically instead of horizontally. This is just a "Top of the head" comment and I have no idea if you would have enough clearance to do that, but definitely worth considering.

    I'm 6'3 and I can sleep width ways. I have 25mm kingspan and 6mm ply each side . The actual width is 6'6 with no insulation

      Cool, what van do you have?

  • @Pugwash.
    @Pugwash. 4 года назад +1

    You might be able to stabilise the table with a folding leg that drops from the bottom of the table on a hinge as it doesn't need to take the weight. A screw-in leg bracket may be too deep.

    • @CallumTash
      @CallumTash  4 года назад

      Yes, that’s what we’re currently thinking :) but two of them

  • @abodeless
    @abodeless 4 года назад +1

    Look at getting a pocket hole jig instead of using brackets. Will have stronger joints and in the long run cheaper.

      Ahh didn’t even know hey existed. Wish we’d known about them when we started out. Though I’m not going to unscrew everything now and replace them haha

    The 38x38mm timber, is that what you're using for all of your furniture frames? Thanks

    Ello chuckyeggs are you going to put holes in your bed ply if not your mattress might suffer with condensation mould you might have been better off with lattes just abit of advice and before with your oil choice as some are really harsh dont use Danish oil bad for your chest when sleeping in van you might be better off with something like osmo oil our Van's coming along fab keep up the good work ❤💙❤💙

    Dont bother with a table leg. Fix a wooden run down the centre about twice as long as the table comes out and fix the wood into a metal guide underneath the bed where the table sits in its away position.
