I love this place! The woodwork and furniture is amazing, just beautiful. Mr. Josef was a good housekeeper and cared for his home. Growing up in the U.S, my mom had my grandma's dishes that were used for thanksgiving and Easter only, but very few people do that anymore. Yes, I like the format and I like it that you take your time and explore thoroughly. I follow 3 urbex channels, yours, Explomo, and Abandoned World Explorers. My favorites. I was not surprised the home was more recently abandoned, the boxes of meds looked pretty modern in its package, and not many homes would be in that great of shape abandoned 50 plus years, I giggled towards the end when you went to the last bedroom and thought that was a young girls dress, it is a full slip a lady would wear under her dress 😁, once again amazing video.

In America it is quite common for people to have "everyday" dishes and a set of "good dishes" which were reserved for holidays and guests. Also stemware and silverware as well. Also, could it be that the sausages were there because perhaps there was a squatter staying in the house more recently?

03:10 When I stayed with a community of artists in France, a couple of years ago, the washing machine there, was very similar to this. Very basic but also very efficient. The second machine is a spin dryer, just to squeeze as much water out, as possible 😊
[😂 the 1960s isn't very, very old. 😂 I get why you would say this because if I consider that its 60 years + ago, it seems like a long time ago but seriously my heart and spirit is still as young and vibrant as a young person ...and my body is still fit and strong. Those 60+ years feel like just a moment.
Bless, when you are my age, in around 2050-60, you'll undersand possibly get what I mean when someone says something was made in 2002, is very, very old 😁😉😀]
Dishes reserved for guests is a very odd thing for me too, unless you have formal parties, then I guess you would.

I'm from the UK, and my boomer-era parents have an ornate English porcelain dining set on display in the kitchen, which was only used a couple of times. The glasses in the same display cupboards were used in my father's restaurant businesses, and now they're for display only. They also have a couple tea sets for guests, and extra crockery, cutlery, cookwear and glasswear in storage. We as a family just use cheap random mismatched plates, bowls and mugs. The Blue Willow plates are our favourite.

Many many thanks Lesley and William for a most interesting video. I enjoy any format of your video: informing before or during the video. Your videos are GREAT!!! I was surprised not to see a bathroom?🤔. I imagine his wife passed away before he did. And that is why he kept just a few of her dresses. I loved the religious details. People often go to Lourdes to ask The Virgin Mary for a miraculous cure. I haven't been there, but I believe you can buy water in containers - it is sold as blessed water. My parents, my grandparents (Russia) also kept the best cutlery - plates, etc for guests. It's actually very sad. We need to use our things we have, and not store for guests. My mother used to hoard perfume when people gave her perfume as presents. And in the end she couldn't use the perfume because all the bottles had fungi. That is why I am so against storing. We need to use and enjoy our possessions. Life is too short to store things in cabinets for guests and special occasions. And how sad to see all that food stored in the basement. However, they were obviously a rich family with no economic problems. Their house is big and beautiful with lots of furniture. He must have been an excellent salesman! Thanks so much for reading the letter from his brother. It makes the story so complete. God bless you and your family. Greetings from Spain. 😊🇪🇦🙋‍♀️

Yes in Singapore where I grew up as well as Canada we also had fancy dishes to use in the dining room for guests or special occasions. Regular dinners we had at the kitchen table with regular dishes. I don’t do that myself now!

Hi Lesley & William, we are in the UK and my parents used to keep dishes for when people came for dinner, my Mother called it her best china 😊. I think with the date on the sausages being newer there could have been a homeless person staying there. The brief case you mentioned is called a suitcase, a briefcase is much smaller and business people use them to carry work related paper etc in. The cabinet that has the clothes in is called a wardrobe in the UK. I really love the new way of doing the video, it is better because we get to see your reaction to each room. Thank you for sharing this lovely old home with us, much love. xx💖

Hi Lesley & William, starting with house in Belgium....first the bicycle is a girl`s bicycle! We have still washing machines that open from the top but does not have smaller tub inside, it is a big opening, now new washing machine with circle glass windows down both washing machine & dryer! Not tissues the red with polka dots, they are Handkerchiefs!! As for using your Best China for Guests, it still happens here in 2022 but as for myself, my parents & grandparents we didn`t do that in Illinois, USA I too love the etched glass French Doors & window above the doors are called Transom...can have that above front door! That is a Unique medicine cabinet! Love the oak stairway & railing! I never saw etched glass in doors for bedrooms , wow!! Like the wood bedframe with the carving on footbed area & side board area too ! Great history of his brother & his son or owner had son visiting from Germany in 1924 ? Yes nice vanity wood dresser with tilted mirror! That is a huge wood Wardrobe to put clothes in! I have never seen those cross like hangers, Lesley! Ok women`s dresses, probably his wife & then boy is child, but I thought boy was younger self of man? On bed looks like a night gown worn by wife & yes I believe it is a leather watch but face clock is missing? That red pouch you called it, looks like to me a cigarette case...yes they sell them here USA? That electric alarm clock is from the 1980`s ? Ok, I believe he was a soap salesman, too! Nothing much in the attic except more soap in different brands. Now to the basement to explore wine, & beer & lots of jar foods. Now to garage, wow a car with the key...here in USA someone would of taken car...but if police stopped you would need title to it & VIN # is on windshield, to look up & see if stolen!! In the last place you looked there was a ladder, & you didn`t look what was up there ? Thanks Lesley & William for the great adventure, take care!!

In America we do the same thing with dishes for guests. My grandmother had a separate set for guests we were NOT allowed to touch...I have them now. It probably was done so when you had guests you had a set without chips and wear. It was the wife's responsibility to set a "perfect" table, especially for guests back then. We've gotten a bit more casual since then 😂. I still do it but don't have a full nice set anymore. I used my grandmother's set for awhile...it brought me great pleasure. I'd like to get another set but due to my age, health and disability I can't do big gatherings now. Love antiques! Someone in my husband's family has an old Pony Express saddle bag. You may know that was the first mail delivery in America done on horseback. I got to see it before it went to a family member. It was acquired by another family member who worked in a rural post office in southern Missouri. It's exciting holding a piece of history worth possibly thousands and to see how life was lived during that time period...which is why I love your show and others like it. It's sad to see those homes and contents neglected. I'd want to try and buy things from owners. Salvaging architecture and contents is big business in America. I guess it would be there too? Thanks again for your shows! Enjoy them very much!

In England we keep special crockery for guests or special occasions. As soon as I saw one of the packs of medication I knew that it wasn't abandoned as early as 1960's. I recognised the logo which is still used. Beautiful furniture and I loved the vanities. One thing I just realised, there wasn't a bathroom. Thank you for bringing us another fantastic video.
