  • Cellist Heather Tuach plays 'Stone' by Marcus Barcham Stevens, a tribute to her late father John Tuach. The composer Marcus Barcham Stevens was inspired by the stonemasonry of John and Ken Tuach and by 1 Peter 2: 'You, also like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house.' There can find two other solo cello pieces by Marcus on this Channel: 'Laude' and 'Bird.'
    The video includes a beautiful ripple stone, the stone creations of John and Ken Tuach; and the only tetrapod footprints discovered in Newfoundland - all were found in the Newfoundland Flagstone quarry, and now reside in Tuach Gardens, Pynn's Brook.
    RIPPLES
    Ripples in the sandstone tell of long before
    As waves washed well that ancient shore.
    Of water currents cast in stone:
    A story wrote in rock that men explore.
    The giant ferns that grew to sky,
    And fell to forest floor to lie;
    Logs, they floated to a strand
    Formed as fossils for our eye.
    Wonder at the time implied:
    Old and new, now side by side.
    Our days are but a tiny mite -
    Irrelevant in earth’s long tide.
    John Tuach (1950-2021)

    I love this video - what a tribute to John...the interplay of magnificent, inspirational music composed by MB Stevens, with stone works wrought by John and son Ken, and of course with daughter Heather who commissioned the work and also plays so strongly, beautifully. Can't completely appreciate everything in one viewing. Congratulations to all who contributed to this ... including the videographer and editor.

    A truly extraordinary, remarkable, very special experience all round: stunning cello playing; stunning music - a quite new dimension to Marcus's music, as I know it; stunning stonework; stunning photography. And a worthy tribute to dear John.
    Proud of you all - thank you! Alan

    Breathtaking music and fantastic playing. The film is also compelling as it empathises with the music so deeply . Congratualtions to you all. John would have loved it, for sure!
