The fact that King Shark was able to use that ring tells me alot about the shitty writing in this game. As soon as John died that ring would of left his finger to find someone with great willpower to wield it.

Well, we also forget that the rings work off of imagination. Shark’s will could get it to work, but his imagination might take some time for him to think of having the ring grow to fit him properly. Lanterns usually do need training, after all

And one could argue that the fact that he was made by being killed over and over and over again by any means possible at the time likely allowed him to overcome any fear of death whatsoever, since he knows he’ll come back and won’t be able to die the same way again, so you could argue that he does have the ability to overcome great fear. As a huge fan of Green Lantern, if not all of the GL corps (except Guy Garner), that's not how the Lantern Ring works. Sure, King Shark as a Green Lantern is cool and all (tho it wouldn't fit him as a GL. He would be either Red or Yellow Lantern), but this is straight up lore breaking. The Ring either flies itself to Oa after the user dies or the user has to "willingly" give the ring to the new user. This shows none of that & treats it like a Ex's engagement ring and it shows that Rocksteady doesn't give a shit and hates their characters & their fans.
Kinda, remember how bruce became dawnbreaker? He broke the rings will and made it do what he wanted.

In the DCAU Static Shock, Sinestro tried to take John's ring and use it for his own and The Batman 2004 series, The Penguin got the ring for awhile from Hal, too, and was able to use it. Not too far-fetched that King Shark can, too.

The fact that the ring caused King Shark to try and kill everyone makes it pretty clear that whatever Brainiac did wasn't just to Green Lantern, but to his ring as well. Makes sense: The ring is what makes the hero, and GL was always just one severed finger away from being a liability. Control the ring, you control the power, no matter whose finger it happens to be on.
Meaning whatever is happening here is happening to Oa or worse to Ion

Still bad writting to get to this point but with this, being positive about anything in this game’s story is hard.
This is not the comics. The ring doesn't have to work the same way. Not being the same as the comics is not "bad writing".

Remember Bruce Wayne from Earth-32 in the comic Dark Knights: Metal? Maybe this Green Lantern in this universe killed people so he forced the ring to be broken, hench some functions of the ring didn't work properly (like leaving the host after death and so on).
That's not how GL rings work...
actually it is. because the ring didn't choose him it caused his construct to not be under his control. It's a defence mechanism if someone tries forcefully using a green lantern ring.

King shark was also dead, but somehow returned, he died like, twice in the Arkham verse, once in a throwaway like in aylum, another in the escape from Arkham movie, that's not even mentioning how the entire justice league was retconned to have been formed after Arkham knight (even though the wirters said they always existed before hand)

Willpower is what POWERS the ring. Not what determines if it can be used or not.
If strength of WILL was all it took to use a green lantern ring, most Yellow or Red Lanterns alone could kill a Green Lantern, rip off their ring, and EASILY use it until its localized power source ran out.
A ring can be used by someone IT chooses at that moment to wield it. And if you expect me to believe that the ONLY option it had on the whole of planet Earth was King Shark, I gotta bridge to sell ya.

Normally Lantern Rings can be pretty picky when it comes to users, but if push comes to shove, they’ll make do with the nearest finger they can latch onto.
For Green Lanterns, yes that is true. In the to be an official one the chosen user must have a sense of willpower and willing to leave their world for any duty. Otherwise, anyone can wield one but may or won’t allow to have any extension of the rings full potential. But they are bit faulty, Lobo as an example can push himself through a Lantern’s shield that’s supposedly impenetrable, and he’s someone who is responsible for destroying his whole race so he can be a one of kind and commits Hanoi’s crime whether as a bounty hunter or not, willpower isn’t always for good guys.

Batman should've broke free from his mind control after being beaten from the squad and he tell them plans to beat superman and brainiac and then beg them to kill him before brainiac takes control again, then have Harely sort of mercy kill him. Then superman? Have him almost kill them all but shark unlocks his full potential with his Atlantian powers and enter a rage mode to kill superman. The makings are all there for the deaths. Also I hate to say it but the only reason why I can believe that the squad can kill the league is bc of King Shark. The dude is a powerhouse and I really wish they had used him better and not gave him the drax treatment. Like dude is strong enough to go toe-to-toe with superman and green lantern. Hell shark can fight the flash. The dude is so versatile. They only showed how strong he was a few times, mainly with the ring but not to his full potential. Idk they had so much potential with most of the characters here. Like the members they chose for this game, I do believe that they could kill the Justice League. Only problem is that, everyone dies to guns. I understand gameplay wise but they could've had a cutscene for the death after you drain the heathbar. Didn't have a problem with that when wonderwoman was fight superman.

Its literally the `anyone can look good in black` or just a suit trope, Doesnt stop the fact it gives zero fks to how the powerset works and wants to exist in a state of limbo where it somehow went above double standard and went into some kind of quintuple standards that selectively deny how source material of certain power sets work yet at the same time want to work in its own selective ways like its a A.I. generator where the words `Humanoid` `Shark` and `Green Lantern` were put into a generator and then they made that the basis of a `so-called cool scene` with no regard how the stuff works.
Even going as far to have the character just `spout` the oath randomly like everyone just magically knows it soon as they don the ring.
Which if you want a cool factor it would of probably been neater to see him be a Red Lantern or Yellow lantern for a short segment, all because the Guardians couldnt directly intervene cause FK plot excuses so they just randomly have some other corp. lend a ring for common interests and just have a cool damn scene of a shark in yellow spandex beating up a green knock off of john stewart fking lantern that instead of acting like a soldier is acting like some wannabe gangster punk instead.

What would be stronger, The One Ring from Lord of the Rings, or any of the DC Lantern Rings?
Because I could see Sauron look at a Green Lantern Ring in action for the first time and be tempted to dunk his ring into Mount Doom himself just to reforge it and try to copy the lantern’s.
Hard to tell but from a deitic scale (i.d in their own narrative setting) The One Ring is extremely powerful while being way subtler than any ring of the emotional spectrum in DC. Except maybe the white or black ring (the first makes you omnipotent or close to be, the second can create extinction on an universal scale and you would control all dead beings).
also the one ring is only considered powerful to the lord of the rings world i bet if the people of the lord of the ring world saw what the lanterns ring could do they just think that their ring was just a toy compared to the lanterns ring @@Toirneachgames

The fact that the ring did not fly off of John Stewart's hand must mean that brainiac was keeping him aline but just long enough for the ring to be forcefully removed and for king shark to ruin it with his sheer will to bust a whole into the shield only to loose control of it to where the others had to get it off his nail with alot of effort

Looking at this as a parody of the Arkhamverse should help some people get over some of the hate. With that in mind, found this funny and decent.

While Batman and Robin was suppose to be the same verse as the OG (Legendary) series, the redesign, shift in tone and characterization in villains and main cast, a lot of people didn't like the changes, but after a while separated the two, saw it as its own thing and generally enjoy as it is, it's a 'continuation' but is shifted to a different direction.
So with this, I'm feeling the same way, yeah the Arkham verse is connected, but the tone, style, music choice, focus on comedy are so different. So OG Arkham stays the same, ending as it did, while this parallel is its own thing.
It's like the Deadpool game, in universe with X-Men story elements, but sure as heck ain't canon.
Or, with a hard stance on canon, are we gon also keep the animated harley Quinn batman movie as part of the BTAS canon.

@@mr.brightside2665 not saying it's a gem, but we have different opinions my guy, I like b grade games and movies, not cause I think they are misunderstood masterpieces but maybe I like something about it that at least gets me into it. I say that is a B - game, (that's being very nice), with some issues I've seen ppl have on gameplay and some scenes where they could have gone more in with, (also with how games are being made and marketed, not a must have at release kinda game). But I, and this just me, find some charm in this different direction and am liking the interactions in the characters.
Their biggest mistake is saying that, yes, this is a continuation of the Arkham games. That is a lot of the hate I been seeing, and instant negative reaction of the game being compared to how awesome the Arkham series was.
But, like I said above, being able to separate it lets me enjoy it more. That aside, this is just me, I respect everyone else's opinion on how the game was handled, hopin everyone has a good day/night

There are general rules, and people will accept breaking them _if_ you write it well/believably. They didn’t. They did it because “we need it to happen” with no actual good setup. Which is why people aren’t buying it and it comes off as hollow. There’s no build up. The idea is resolved the same time it’s brought up. Writing it that way means you shouldn’t/can’t take it as monumental.

The game may end up being garbage GAAS shit, but King Shark using the lantern ring and reciting the oath was pretty epic.
Isn't the ring supposed to DC's version of Thor's Hammer where only the worthy could wield it or was that just thrown out the window for story reasons.

You do realize it's bad writing when things are left without context and you end up filling it in yourself to justify what you just saw or read we dont have enough of anything to know about the Arkham Universe so it would have been great if they properly explained why he was able to use the ring. @@SeymoreTheDisappointed

Also when a green lantern dies the ring goes directly to Oa and it takes a while to get reasigned and also it doesn't go out of control.

I think they are trying to create that captain America - Thor moment where Cap was able to use the hammer as a surprise. It won’t work here because let’s not forget the suicide squad is a bunch of criminals. And I’m not sure King shark has the strongest will even on this battlefield
There’s also no buildup to it. It just happens at the same time the idea is brought up, and then discard immediately. A scene won’t have a big reaction/payoff if it’s mentioned and resolved in the same scene.
My theory is that Brainiac reversed-engineered the ring's AI to not make it sentient, because it would've flew off the moment John started killing people, as the ring doesn't allow lethal force. Despite the faults, Rocksteady did their research on the characters, the bios show it. There's no way they don't know the basic rules of a Lantern ring.
Honestly this is a fun idea as long as you treat it like a elseworld story and aren’t so caught up on whether something should be possible. Like it’s comic books, absurd stuff happens. Like you can get mad about it being Arkham universe and the disservice to past characters and yeah…valid complaints.
But king shark prying off a lantern ring to summon a giant shark to break a forcefiled is the absurd shit I expect from comic book games
Absolutely agree, everyone shits their pants cuz (insert other version of media here) is not biblically accurate to their comic origins and logic, which 30% of their community have probably not even read the comics, i can say right here that some people are just riding he hate train cuz they want people to agree with them.
It would work if it was something like Teen Titans Go where the tone, characters, and writing is all playing it loose, but it’s not. They’re taking it seriously, except for the rules that come with these characters/properties. By not being authentic, it shows they don’t care to represent these characters/IP properly. They changed how things worked not because they cared about the effects on the story/lore or they wanted to go in a different direction how to represent the Green Lantern Corps. But because they wrote themselves into a corner (need to break the shield) and forced it, wanted a scene they think is cool (King Shark using the ring), and wanted some drama/suspense (almost dying by using it). But it’s hollow because they didn’t write it in an interesting way within existing (or stated) new rules to make it a good payoff. They literally just use it with no rhyme or reason, and immediately discard it in the same scene because they need it gone to not impact gameplay.
The whole point of a writer, is making whatever scene happen feel believable. It’s not. Even if you want to ignore existing rules, the ring isn’t even around his finger all the way in the first place. It’s still around his nail. They wanted the payoff with no work on their part to believably set it up, which is a recipe for bad writing.
All y’all in the comments don’t know about Lord Malvolio, a GL villain who stole a GL ring from his father after killing him. So yes, you can kill a GL and take their ring. The rings have to scan for the nearest possible best candidate to wear the ring. It doesn’t immediately whisk off, it has to locate the next best bearer. So yes, this scene does make sense. King Shark was able to temporarily use the ring while it was searching for a new host, but lost control when his willpower wasn’t strong enough.
If that was true, then you should see the ring fly off at the end to try and find someone to imply that. But it doesn’t. So it comes off like the writers broke/ignored the rules because they wrote themselves into a corner (how do we break the shield?). That and they wanted a cool scene/shot. But they didn’t care to do enough setup to pay it off well. It’s brought up, resolved, and discarded all within the same scene, which signals to the viewer that it’s minor.
If you want a good payoff, you have to take time to build it up. You can’t do it immediately. What would be more interesting, is if they all tried to wear it but it did nothing (or it resized so they physically couldn’t). King Shark keeps it in his pocket because if it tries to fly away, he can quickly react and maybe be strong enough to hold it back (idk if possible). At some pivotal point it glows and he’s able to wear and use it. Since you need to get rid of it for gameplay reasons, have it destroyed in battle (idk if possible), or run out of energy (he used what was left after the GL fight, and they don’t know where the lantern is to recharge and don’t have time to get it), or maybe Superman rips it off his finger because he’s that strong (Braniac wants it out of their hands and might try to use/harvest it even if he can’t). Or King Shark is overwhelmed after using it, and doesn’t like it, and gets rid of it himself. In that scenario you could have him be the most interested to use it, and then realize it’s more than he bargained for.
Good writing isn’t about the result, it’s about making the path to that result _believable_ within the bounds you have, and they didn’t do that.
So this was the green gun guy gone.
I agree that the ring should have flown off his body or at least not just been able to be worn by shark. I think it would have been funny if shark struggled and struggled to get the ring off the finger, and then out of frustration ATE the finger and ring...and then...he turned into shark lantern. I mean if you are going to ignore the rules, and least go all the way.
