Damn, those Yamaha's must have been absolute weapons in the mid 2000s! I'm so glad that both of these companies still produce smokers, KTM pushing development and Yamaha just pushing out the same quality product year after year. I really wish Suzuki and Kawasaki did the same thing as Yamaha, fuck Honda though. Just as a company not their bikes, some of them are the most iconic in history. Still I don't see why Yamaha can't just run their 250F and 450F bikes, with the cradle from their respective smoker. Then they only need to build a second, slightly different frame. Not reproduce an entire 2nd motorcycle. The Yamaha engine is still relevant. They wouldn't need to develop it and the chassis would see development just as a side effect, with no R&D. Seems like a cheaper way to produce them, that would only benefit the smoker?

You know exactly what I mean. And I know exactly what the video is about. And it’s all a crock of shit. The champions are in the history books because of skill, determination, and training. Not because of a magazine articles bike brand shootout !
Not because of a red, yellow, blue, orange, green, or white bike.
But hey, if that’s what your into, what helmet brand is going to get the quickest lap times for a “given” racer !? Bell or Shoei !?
Yahama all the life, i have an YZ125 2012.
if im 5 foot 7 and 128 pounds with riding experience but have never owned a bike. what bike would work
Yz 125 for you
Dreambike yz125. Hope can buy someday
I just bought the yamaha today. My first bike at 16. Im so excited. Any tips?
Enjoy. That's my favorite dirt bike.
Take lessons and have the suspension revalved for your weight. The better you ride the more fun it is
@@jrod1076 yeah ive gotten pretty good. The suspension i do need tuned tho
@@devinn5306 did you change anything on suspension? en did it make a diffrence?
The prize of the YZ125 should be lower for every year. Its the same bike for the last 15 years, production cost low, and no money is spent on r/d.
and still better than anything honda suzuki or kawi put out. why change something that works very good
Will Walton but why make it more expensive?
@@tyriekovco711 yamaha has never been cheap. and like i said before it was the best production 125 with the frame, suspension and the power horse at one time. and your limited on 2t choices, its the only japanese company still making them. ive personally owned 4 of them 97, 98, 01 and my current 07 which is a huge upgrade from my older models way more power and for me atleast the best handling bike ive ever ridden.
Will Walton You also pay for really good build quality. Especially on the 2006-2009 models.
Back in 2004 you could pick up a 125 for $4,000. $7,000 is to much money for a 125.
Im pretty tired of seeing this wack ass argument. The 2004 yz125 msrp was 5,099 dollars okay. That was 16 years ago.
The 2020 model is $6600. Have you ever heard of inflation?
If you use an inflation calculator youd realize that the yz is actually 300 dollars cheaper in today's money.
Have you ever heard of price inflation? Technically the yz is the same price it was then.
Dylans503 yeah and also a brand new 125 in 2020 is way better than a brand new 2004 was
Agreed
Have the average incomes grew by 40% since 2004?
Seems like a cheaper way to produce them, that would only benefit the smoker?
what really needs to be said here is the KTM is more set up for pro and the 125 Yamaha is more for semi pro Rider
Can a 15 years old still compete with the newer ones?
Like RM125, CR125 and KX125?
the yz 2020 is 15 years old
Yes I’m not sure about the other brands but the kx puts out more power then the ktm and lighter
@@zayneriess634 ?
Zayne Riess and good luck finding parts to keep it running.
@@zayneriess634 2008 KX 125 is 191.8 pounds(dry). The 2020 125 SX is 192 pounds(dry) according to both manufactures. I've ridden both bikes and the KTM handles better compared to the KX on the track with the more modern suspension and is obviously better despite having an air fork. Kawi btw claimed 40 PS at the crank(39 HP) which is more than the SX(37.8 HP), but it doesn't feel like it when you ride it. It was the best 125 back in 08 imo and I wish Kawasaki kept making and developing the bike. It would be incredible today. I wish all the Japanese manufactures would have kept on developing 2 strokes.
Can it still do singletrack trails?
yamaha can better
@@paahtopro3950 did you watch the video? no, it doesnt
Husqvarna got a 40hp 125 so it’s kinda surprising the ktm has 37hp.
What is is supercharged 125?
maybe the ktm is from th wheel and the husky is from the crank?
Peak power means nothing
what is the best bike for a 14 yr old coming off a klx 140 trail bike
Kx100
Have to say YZ on this one.
7.5 pounds lighter, and 2-3 horsepower lighter? Bruh how? Because of $700? That's like a week of work at most.
@@samoliverio7455 suspension, parts price, resale value, reliability.
@@caydenthompson126 I'd argue the WPs are just as good as KYBs. Parts are cheaper I'll give you that. Resale value is completely off, I've seen nice mid-2000's KTMs go for $5000 while I can pick up a YZ for $3000. Reliability may be a bit more towards the YZ, but KTMs don't break for the most part. There's some that have flaws but overall they have good European build quality.
@@samoliverio7455 WPs offer adjustability, but if you want the best suspension period than it's KYB SSS. Everyone knows it. YZs definitely have better resale value because they are reliable solid machines that are not changed.
@@caydenthompson126 I think suspension is debatable. And you just destroyed your own point, YZs haven't been updated in almost 2 decades. Who wants a 20 year old machine? It's like wanting a 2000 honda civic, it's reliable, but who wants it?
I want this my dream bike :(
Well needed video this was
Really helpful thanks
Yz 250 2stroke is the best 2stroke dirtbike
And tell us again the reason why the other Japanese manufacturers do not make a 125 2 stroke racing bike? Go ahead... Will wait. They don't have a reason. Just make the dang thing and people will buy it. It's just that simple. It doesn't even have to be all that great and updated and Technology. Just ask Yamaha. They have done almost nothing to their 125 and it still is a good bike that sells pretty well. So just make the thing Honda, Kawasaki, Suzuki. And people will buy it. How much more simple does it need to be for you guys...
Let’s be honest here. If Yamaha actually decided to try, they would make the best 125 hands down. I mean think about it. Yamaha’s engineering is one of the best in the game, if not the best. They legit made the Lexus LFA lmao.
@@YaseenAli-zn9ej Lexua LFA is not that special beside that it has a great sound

@@YaseenAli-zn9ej KTM is shit and their expensive stuff
I keep reading the 1999 yz super Evo was a great bike .
Note the yz is from 2006 pretty much as well
2020 yz125?
You mean 2006 yz125.
It's a 14 year old bike.
That goes to show that Yamaha was elite back then with their YZ125’s.
If only honda brought back the crf125r it would be the most popular dirt bike ever
good night friends these bikes are all good, and my dream of consumption, a pity that they are very expensive in brazil. the more we are going. and a very good dream they exist.
Yea and they powerful to😭I rode a 2 stroke for the first time today a yz125 I went down a curb and hit the gas I thought i was done I’m usually on a crf 150rb
Yamaha Yz 125 2020 THE BEST 🔝👍
KTM is lighter, more powerful, and handles better. But you can buy a five year old, used 2020 YZ125 and have 95% of the performance for half the price.
or buy a 4yr old ktm for the same money and way more performance
GunsCarsBikeCigars not really ktms began being good around 2017 and most ktm owners when it comes to sell believe their bike is worth not a dollar less than what it cost off the showroom floor ive seen a 2006 ktm listed for 3k where as you could find an 06 yz for 1000-1500 dollars
😂 the best IS yamaha , Ktm it's a shit , in one year the bike IS over !
@@richardfilippi8977 Nah, both are good bikes. The biggest reason I bought a Yamaha 125 instead of the KTM is that I don't like air forks and the cone valve conversion is so expensive.
David C idk where you’re finding a YZ for 1000-1500. Any yz from 05+ is still 2500 or more at least in my area. I looked for a long time for a nice 125 to have fun on and couldn’t find a single bike no matter the make under 2k at the least and a clean one 2500+. The 2 strokes are selling for a lot now, you can get a really clean CR for under 2500 around here and I’m talking all the way back to a 02! I’ve seen A clean kx250 go for 5k!
How much this one
While I respect the YZ, KTM dominates 2 strokes. Fastest 2t engines there are, plus they keep innovating 2t motors. Yamaha hasn't done this in awhile. Look at the TPI for example, while it may only be on enduros, I bet KTM will implement it on all 2t. Plus like the video said, the KTM is 7 pounds lighter. That's insane!
Both bike are the best. The problem sits between the handlebars and the seat.If you can't ride don't judge.
You have 800 dollars to recut the head, fix the jetting, buy a pipe, tires AND springs.
$800 start on a 145 kit. Makes power differences moot.
Not to mention is 125 parts are dirt cheap. Throw in a fresh piston every season and you'll easily get 5 years out of the bike with nothing major
Yz 125 is the best
What are the maintenance cost difference at race level?
Ktm is my dream bike brand
Yamaha YZ 250 -2 stroke
They are both great bikes but i wouldnt change my KTM for Yamaha
