How exactly? none of the pickups being discussed here are new . They all have been available for quite along time . Where are the more era specific pickup clones? The PAF was produced from 57 to 62 but they changed along the way. A 59 paf sounds different from a 57 PAf and Pafs from 61 and 62 are different from both of those. There is 3 eras of PAF 57/58 59/60 and 61/62 and each era has a different tone and different specs yet every reissue guitar from 57 to 62 has the same pickups which are custombuckers which are amazing pickups but there was a different tone to the Pafs across that you year spans . Where is the custom shop Version of the gibsom patent sticker pickup which itself has 2 eras early patent sticker pups and late pat sticker pups both of which have different specs and tone and sound different from any Paf era yet reissues of 1963 and 64 guitars have custombuckers . Why the historical actuary does not extend to pickups is beyond me . They make great pickups but they need to do what other winders and represent all the different eras with great pickups. Like at the selection of other winders. You get early PAf clones middle period Pafs late Pafs from 61 and 62 early patent number clones from 63 and 64 late patent numbers clones from late 64 to early 66 and T top clones from mid 66 onwards. I would kill for an accurate gibson produced clone of a 1963 early patent number pickup . My favorite tones mostly all come from SGs and 335s with gibsom pat sticker pups especially 63/64. Short rough cast A5 Mags real plain enamel wire even bobbin windings no couple offset wound to 7.8k to 8k I would even settle for the polly Coated wire as they started the transition to from PE to Polly in late 63 and right up to the end of 64 the pickups could have either or . I have no interest in boutique pickups ads have no interest in pickups with Waiting lists or no interest in pups that have to be shipped to me. I love gibson and Duncan and I want pickups that I can order through my local retailers and can't be bothered with cross border shipping. I want gobsom to succeed and become the best pickup manufacturer of them all .
The Pickup Shop is a genius idea and I'm so glad that Custombuckers are finally available to buy individually Gibson is really moving in a great direction. New leadership has been doing everything right
Through some false advertising BS on the part of Guitar Center, I was able to get Gibson to install some unpotted Custombucker 3s in my Les paul, and they are by far the most amazing sounding humbuckers I've had, including my Fralin Pure PAFs, BGs, and Lollars. I was super bummed that I wasn't going to be able to install these in any other guitar, but now, despite the price, I'm stoked to have the opportunity to do so again. Perfect pickups in every sense of the word.
Burstbuckers are good p'ups? Just starting out here. Ran across 2020 standard and it's got burst bucker '61' in her but I haven't received it yet so I don't know how it's going to sound.

Aside from the 57 Classic+/57 Classic combo, I’ve never been a fan of Gibson pickups, but that T-Type neck/70s Tribute bridge combo have something special
Gibson pickups are the best! Gibson makes so many different pickup models, one can easily find the sound that’s perfect for them. Why search for the perfect PAF copy when you can buy the real deal from Gibson right now? I have love for most guitar brands, but Gibson is the best by far.
Here is a thought now that custombuckers are being made available as an after market option will they start using them in gibsosn USA guitars like perhaps the les paul standard 50s . The les pail standard 50s would fly of the walls if they came stock with CBs. It would be a great option for people not willing or unable to spend customshop prices. Strangely I did like the Epiphone sound. But I'm looking for the sound of the 57 and 57+, 4 wires. I was waiting for a review and a video on the 57s Gibson humbuckers. I wonder how they sound?
IMO, for classic Les Paul tone Nothing beats the Classic 57's w/500k pots and .001/.010/.033 (switchable) ceramic orange drop and paper oil caps! I own tons of pickups and the Holmes designed Classic 57's are my fav, and really the only pickups I like and would ever buy again from Gibson!

Some of these imported Epiphones are coming with outstanding pickups in them. The Burstbucker 2&3 set in my '59, and then I paired the Custombuckers that came in the 2 Adam Jones sigs, together in the newest model with the Gibson headstock. So the overwound neck pickup out of my "The Berserker" custom art edition, is now in the bridge position of my new "non art" version, paired with the Custombucker that comes in the neck.(flipped back around). Its THEE BEST matched and sounding humbucker set I currently have in any of my guitars. The added winds they put on the neck pickup from the custom art models to match the Distortion better. Give it the right amount of added punch to work perfectly with a standard wound Custombucker. Its pure money! My AJ sigs have some unique tones coming out of them, with the EMG loaded "Berserker" bludgeoning anything in its path!
Awesome thing from Gibson! I just wish there was a shot for the Burstbucker 3 to hear it compared to the 2 also but... Can't have it all I'm guessing :)
Love my Burstbucker, of course my R9 ML heavy aged. Classic Plus's rare 59Tribute and Yamano era's 490&498 are also exciting. I'll put Burstbucker on PRS too lol.
Put a T type in the bridge and a custombucker in the neck or even a BB2 or put an A3 mag in the BB2 and you have a Defacto jimmy page 1972 to 1990 number 1 les paul set . If the custom bucker and t type become after market options I will be buying a t top . I have several custombucker and Burstbucker loaded guitars to experiment with. I would love to hear in person how close the t type is to the original . I have heard people who have put an A5 magnet in their 490r neck pickups and move it to the bridge and use a BB2 with an A3 mag in the neck and the results were fantastic very convincing page tone I would imagine the t type woods get even closer.
Custombuckers are simply amazing if you’re a clean player like me. I imagine the new alnico 3 custombuckers are even clearer. 57 classics are also good but I feel they get far too muddy.
Didn't have the Xtra $for Gibson Les so I got the Epiphone 1959 Les dark burst with Gibson burst bucker Humbucker 1 & 2 500 Malory compasiter but I'm going to change lanes and put some Grover tuning heads later maybe change bridge but I didn't even have to intonate them awesome love it sounds so badass I went got the lemon burst and with more than my wife thinks will get the other cherry and southern fade have em all I will 😅
Just put a T type into my telecaster... Great sound, but all companies use Phillips screws... apparently gibson want to give us hard time... and also the route for a humbucker wasn't deep enough for gibson screws, had to make deeper holes....
Will there be an option to buy them with the quick disconnect system? I would love to change pickups in my Les Paul tribute but the PCB makes that slightly difficult without the disconnects.
They really should so that the PCB quick connection becomes an industry standard through people copying them. Then we can FINALLY swap pickups with a *click, click* and done.
They won’t do that. Nor should have have done that crap to begin with. Swapping humbuckers in a Gibson the part that takes the longest isn’t the soldering.
Based on all the videos on You Tube, I think Gibson would do quite well if the sold guitars without pickups. An awful lot of people replace them. I’m here looking for a replacement for a 500T.
The guitar community is weird like the watch community. Show me a guitar that an enthusiast doesn't tweak something. First to go usually are the pickups or tuners. Most everyday people who buy guitars I'm sure are quite happy with the stock models.
How is the pickup the engine? An amp would be the engine if there’s even a comparison there and the pickup would be your accelerator/brake/shifter if there’s even a proper comparison there. Or maybe even a pickup could be a transmission but then theres the power and output transformers in the amp again. Bring Gibson Amps back! Seriously has a Dumble-esque sound to them…like the GA-40.
i recently bought a "faded" SG 61 with vibrola, just as in the video....thought about changing one pickup in the bridge, but then decided against...ill leave it as it is...just fine...cheers.....oh...yeah i put a nickel pickup cover on the neck pu...looks good....
Great video. However, I don't understand what's new about this. You've always been able to order Gibson pickups separately. I have a Gibson 500T in one of my guitars which I ordered through gibson. How is this new?
In the case of dimarzio it would be karmic justice as dimarzio sues people over double cream and double white bobbins. Also they won't sue Duncan because they have a working relationship with duncan . Duncan provides gibson with pickups for custom shop signature models and epi models but then again duncan threatened to sue gibson over the Signature gibosn slash bucker pups which is why they are now called custom burstbucker alnico 2 . Basically they like cut throat scumbags.
Wish there was more construction info on Gibson pickups the way other manufacturers publish i.e. Ouput Magnet type Wire type and gauge DC resistance Resonant peak 3-band EQ (bass mids treble)

So wait are the custombuckers now available as after market parts. If so I bet the specs will be dumbed down now that they will be mass produced they did the same with 57 classics and BBs . They specs were changed and cheaper materials used when they went from customshop to regular production Burstbuckers from the late 90s to very early 2000s but especially the ones from 96 to 98 were a different beast i have seen the late 90s ones being described as sounding like 1962 to 1964 gibson patent sticker pups. I really love the modern BB2 and BB3 set bit the originals from the mid to late 90s were on another level. I hope I am wrong and the CBs don't suffer the same fate because they are great pickups.
They all sound more or less the same including the Epiphone standard pickups. You would get more variation by using different thickness plectrums. Much cheaper alternative.
I own and far prefer the Fillmore 25 to the 50 watt’s tones, but I wish this demo were with a Marshall-type. Hard to compare to other channels’ demos. Trying to decide between a Custombucker or Cream T Whiskerbucker as higher output Bridge replacement to an OX4 (love this make) in a ‘57RI and the tones here are a little sterile.
Smart move by Gibson, now are they asking boutique Throbak level pricing or are they more lollar competitors? Wish they'd introduce the MHS series, those are great.
I would have loved to hear the original collection explorer which has BB2 and 3 I have 2 of those guitars and the BB2 and 3 suit the explorer perfectly. I I would have liked to hear the BB2 and 3 at least in in some guitar in this video they truly are some of gibsons best . Custombuckers and BB2 and or BB1 and 3 are my favorite gibson sets and 2 of my top 4 favorite sets along with duncan seth lovers and duncan whole lotta humbuckers.
Which are the best Gibson pickups in your opinion? We'd love to know!

That is what i love about the 61r and 61t they have that late 60's early 70's T-top tone i like.
Did you kill the Gibson 57 classic...????
1970 mudbucker!!! PLEASE!!!!!
60s are NO DOUBT what I feel the most OH MY GOD SOOOO HOT
Good fucking video guys. Bring back the goddamn 2000's SG supreme please everyones asking for them (diamond inlays)
They all sound more or less the same including the Epiphone standard pickups. You would get more variation by using different thickness plectrums. Much cheaper alternative.
Not into Mesa's with Gibsons. They were a better match for Paul Reed Smith and Superstrat guitars. Give me a Fender tweed or a Marshall with a Gibson.
Really stupid to demo full sized humbuckers when I am looking at the mini humbucker
where's 490r 498t..
they nigh on all sound the same to me..
Smart move by Gibson, now are they asking boutique Throbak level pricing or are they more lollar competitors?
Wish they'd introduce the MHS series, those are great.
It’s Gibson, their prices will probably make Throback look “affordable”.
Following their link, the Custombuckers are $490/set.
@@overdriven3013 $500!?!! I can buy an EQ pedal and a compressor for a lot less than that, and get all those tones.
Thats also as expensive as they get you can get good ones for 100
@@thisisvegitobluonyt9282 like what ? I don't think you know what you are talking about.
