- A year of SO many BIG changes. The landscape of Campervans is changing quickly. Are these changes good changes? What are your thoughts?
The new line up of Volkswagen vans and campervans has caused a stir and I cant wait to start seeing some of these new models and facelift versions to hit the road.
The ID Buzz, Multivan and new Transporter appeared in a RUclips video from Germany and now we have the UK Press Release with more information and photos. This was followed by an official press release. I did a full separate video on that. Is this the Transporter T7?
The ID Buzz will have camper conversions done to it or is a VW Crafter a better van in your opinion.
We also had the Calor gas issue, with them stopping refilling the smaller sized bottles, leading to people moving to Campingaz, Flogas or underslung LPG. However have Calor gas done a u-turn

Whether you have a T5, VW T5.1, T6, T6.1 or even an older T2, T2.5, T4, the VW Vanlife scene is amazing, with so much help and assistance available for whatever project you wish to attempt. Panel van, Kombi, Converted Camper or VW California Beach or Ocean, enjoy the freedom van life brings.
The @Staycation Lifestyle van conversion is coming along.
I bought a VW Transporter T6 Kombi Highline van 140bhp diesel SWB with tailgate.
I have lots more to do though, I have a new electrical system, using Victron components and a Lithium LIFEPO4 battery, so I obviously need to install some power devices. I have a new sound system, with Focal speakers and ibus 2.1 amp, Playstation PS4, which will be removable, TV's on headrests.
Lots for me to look forward too and it would be nice to take you on the journey.
Vanlife for me is just beginning, it's a great adventure and I'm loving it. 😍
There are many great camper adventures to come

Oh man you’re killing me today… pointing a fire saying how cool is that.😂😂😂
Awesome keep up the good work.
🤣 Good point
No matter how hard VW try with different interiors and front end, (which is all it will be), this new van will ALWAYS be a re-badged Transit, and its my opinion that the 'following' that VW vans have had is as a result of them being made solely by VW. Its absolutely undoubtable that 'T5' platform vans will become more desirable as the reality of owning/driving a Ford wearing a VW mask sinks in to potential new customers. Great video and all the best for 2024😎
Thank you.
I think you’re right and how people respond to this will be interesting. There are different types of buyers and some won’t be bothered by it, but that will be where the residuals of the new ones could be affected.
I'm assuming VW had to join forces with Ford to build vans because they couldn't make it work financially by themselves.
Even though VW vans have a premium price Ford sell a lot more vans so i guess Ford win with economies of scale.
It will be interesting to see how more expensive the T7 will be over the Ford when they are basically the same van.
@@marks-0-0 VW are the larger company in terms of revenue. The Transit does sell more in terms of vans, but campervans is different and harder to put figures on.
Regardless, they both make good vans, but with rising costs of development, EV R&D etc it makes sense they do this.
The same also goes for the Transit Connect, which is a rebadged VW Caddy and the Amorak/Ranger.
@@StaycationLifestyle larger as a company yes but i dare say the VW commercial side aren't as profitable as Ford commercial and one part of a business can't be kept afloat by another in the long term.
I'm kinda c'est la vie about the whole thing anyway and would happily buy the Ford althugh VW always seems to design better noses.
Ordering a Beach in its last year is tempting but think I'd prefer a nicely speced electric Kombi at im guessing a similar price .
@@marks-0-0 Styling is one thing, but you also need to consider the mechanicals. Ford's Transit (and therefore VW's new Transporter) uses a wet belt engine. Outside of the commercial fleet sector (where vans get moved on after 3 years) you'll find that mechanics have serious concerns regarding the longevity of such engines - not good for those wanting to keep a camper long-term and certainly not something you'd want to be paying the "VW premium" for.
Interestingly I too have heard that Calor are to re-introduce the 4.5kg bottle and I have two which I kept from the good old days. I have taken early retirement (64) and was astonished by the prices of camper-vans which is why we have decided to order a micro camper (NV200) being converted by a professional company, we should be taking delivery around the end of March to early April. We wanted a vehicle to replace our car as a shopper, day van and the odd short stay away, it had to get under the dreaded 2m height barriers and be ULEZ compliant. I hope we have made the right choice and look forward to getting out and about.
Prices certainly have increased. I’m sure you will be happy with your choice. Regardless of what van you have, how much you spent on it, what brand it is, we all can visit the same beautiful places.
Have fun in your retirement and enjoy your new van
Just called my dealer now, asked if he could get me a new T6.1. ‘Coke or amphet’ was his answer. Bummer😢. Hey ho. Happy new year bud!
🤣 Happy New Year. Let’s hope next year is a good one for all
I have a 2012 T5.1 California Ocean, DSG, 4 Motion, but I would really like is a California long wheelbase version, for that extra 12 inches (so to speak) of living space. Maybe one day?
The multivan concept is based on the “long multivan” which is longer than the current California
Calor are re introducing the 3.9kg and 4.5kg back in February.
I wonder what impact it’s had, as like I said even some leisure retailers moved away from them to Flogas 🤷🏻♂️
What a marketing c*** up that decision was. No doubt some bright spark looking at cost cutting rather than customer service. May have been a small portion of sales but its supports the rest of their business.
Personally moved over to flogas when the whole debacle started during covid, won't be returning to calor even though I still own the bottles.
Gaslow are still offering there 2.7kg small bottles that you can refill legally at petrol stations.
Keep small bottle fill it yourself if calor won’t fill it
Great video. It's shame vw will be working alongside Ford. 😢
Time will tell how that turns out. Remember though the original campervan was the microbus, the solitary, which is now the ID Buzz, so that’s still VW 🤷🏻♂️ If you like small electric vehicles 😃
We saw this Solo stove on Living the van life channel and we both love it I think his is the same size as yours but wow they are more expensive than I thought they were!
They are well worth it. I’ve got the cooking bits for it too. One of the reasons I got one was due to lots of people saying how amazing they are.
@@StaycationLifestyle I just looked online and they are on offer you can even get a coloured one at no extra cost
@@andyarmitage2895 Try using Staycation10 it may give you an additional 10% off.
Will be doing some more videos on this soon with all the other bits I have
@@StaycationLifestyle Thanks I will try that but Linda likes the black one and you can add the colour free of charge today only but of course we wouldn't be able to use your code as well would we :(
@@andyarmitage2895 If you do it by code, then I guess not. I don’t actually earn anything from it, so it doesn’t matter to me.
You are avoiding the reality regarding gas in vans......during the next Five years most of the major van builders are moving over to "No-Gas" van conversion builds. Wildax are leading the way and others are starting to follow, Solar/Inverters/Powerpacks/Clayton LP systems will see gas redundant before long. Regarding the T6 saga, it's obvious to me that the Multivan will be available to professional converters within a year on two in basic bare form. The all new Crafter and even more so the MAN TGE will be the big thing with converters. The Wildax Altair at around 98k to me shows the way that the industry is moving towards.
I have spoken to a few and one said that in their lifetime they don’t believe “no gas” will be the norm. (That’s a company I’ve not discussed before)
Many are bringing in dual fuel systems, as the induction hobs, microwaves etc are all very power hungry. This means large capacity batteries are needed, much harder in a small van.
The Crafter however can comfortably have much larger capacity batteries and this size van is becoming more popular with converters.
The issue with the crafter size is that it’s a different market. It’s the motorhome market for leisure vehicles, not for daily drivers.
I would love a crafter, it would also need a daily driver.
That's why I've bought a ecozoom rocket cooker
I’m new to the transporter scene, and thinking of a new camper van……..could you recommend some decent builders?
Where are you based? Are you buying a brand new camper?
@@StaycationLifestyle County Durham……I was going to buy new, but now I’m thinking used.
@@StaycationLifestyle it’s a lot of money……to make a wrong choice……cheers.
fs just bought a 907 at £95
It’s certainly not cheap 🤦🏼♂️
That's why an old Mercedes Vito w638 is the best van for 2024.
Proven million mile engines & Gearbox.
Cool Retro Styling,Cheap, Reliable Mercedes Diesel always wins.
Get a California before they go “small”
That’s true 🤣
Keep to the story mate
This is the NUTS
907 fill it with lpg cost £5 and last forever
Sits by open fire while saying how much he likes modern technology.
What would be the modern equivalent of a camp fire? I suppose there isn’t one (yet)
