    Thanks so much for this! My preacher has a 2012 Expedition that had this same problem. He was saying that he took it the dealer and they said it would be at least $1000 because they had to take off the dash. I told him to wait, I found this video and ordered the part. It was $18 and some change from RockAuto and fixed it right up. You saved him a bunch of money and he does appreciate it!!!

      There is a different actuator that requires the dash to come off but that’s for the temperature blend door

    To add to the comment, I had to do an extra step. Mine was a clicking one. When I tried to match it up, the white spindle didn't match up. But I remembered my mechanic from the 90s taking the blend door actuator apart and showing me the little plastic gears. I opened it up and turned the big gear to the position on my old actuator and it fit right into position.

      Mine clicks now. So you think I don't need a new part? Just remove and realign?
      The Curious part is that all positions work properly, it's just when it rotates to the last position it doesn't know to stop powering the motor. The motor keeps trying to rotate it and it's at the end of its allocated rotating path so it clicks for 30 seconds until it gives up

      @@sethbob5742 yes, that's the symptom mine was showing. The clicking. It would eventually stop.

      @@eeveecat2158 update- I spoke with my mechanic, internal gear was STARTING to strip. So it would work to rotate, but I'd suppose to provide enough back pressure at the end of rotation to let the motor to know to stop. $38 for the new part and about one hour to swap out and now it's totally fixed 👍

    Thank you very much. Got the right tools, curled up under the driver side dash and that's the only item I unscrewed, the actuator.

    Just did this on a 2015 expedition. Had a clicking noise when going into defrost mode, noise gone after swapping the actuator. I needed to remove the 3 13mm bolts on the gas pedal to make room to access the 2 8mm actuator screws. The doorman part had a little spindle adjuster tool that was very helpful to align the gears to the new part so it slides in easily. Not too difficult all said and done, maybe 15-20 minutes total. Thanks for the vid!

    2:34 Dude that doorside creeper IS really nice! I need to look at one of those. Great video and thanks for making this one.

    Just finished this repair on my 2016 Expedition. I bought the Dorman part which I was eventually able to get installed. The biggest installation issue I had was the alignment of the male spindle into the blend door. The blend door HAS to be in the correct position in order to install the new actuator. The actuators all are set to the same installation position out of the box, but the blend door was not in the correct position to mate up. I'm guessing that that was because the stripped gear inside the old unit prevented the door from going to it's correct position when turned off. I ended up taking apart the old actuator (comes apart REALLY easy) and removed the white spindle that also has a big gear on the other end, inside the actuator housing. I was able to insert this piece by hand into the blend door and manually turn the blend door to the position that put the "flat" part of the white peg in the orientation of the peg in the new part. After that, the new actuator slide right in!

    Thank you so much for the info , my 2016 expedition has the cold air in the front but in the back just room temperature air coming out! Would it be the actuator than is gone bad ? Thanks

    Is this also the procedure for the 2017?

    Awesome video brother! Off the top of your head with your mechanical experience would you know if a 2017 expedition platinum el is in the same spot Or similar to the vehicle in your video?

      It would definitely be a few trim levels above this particular one. This is a school owned "security , (patrols campus)" vehicle and its almost like a tradesman truck . Cheapest base model they could buy .

    What if the replacement actuator is not in the correct position to reinstall? Send some 12v juice to it?

    Hello! How much different do you think this method would be for a 17 Expedition XLT EL?

      When I bought my 2016 Expedition, they told me the 2017 model had not been changed one bit from the 2016 model. Probably the exact same part in the exact same place.

    I had the clicking noise and replaced the actuator with a Doreman part and the clicking is still there after the replacement. I pulled the fuse but did I miss something with the procedure or do I possibly have another issue?

    • @WhatTheDuckAuto
      @WhatTheDuckAuto  Год назад

      It could be a different actuator or the door in the air bix is damaged. Can check by unplugging the new actuator and see if the clicking continues.

      Thank you to everyone that contributed further information. I'm going to Hobe it a second go. I wanted to add that if you remove the 3 bolts for the had pedal you can drop it down and have a lot more room to work with. Hope that helps!

    Unfortunately my 2016 Ford Expedition wasn't this easy, the top screw of the actuator is absolutely impossible to get to. Mine had more stuff underneath and in the way - and doesn't have as much spacious area around the actuator assembly.

    • @WhatTheDuckAuto
      @WhatTheDuckAuto  2 года назад +1

      This vehicle was a base model so its verry possible that yours is a higher trim package with more option and some of that could have played a factor in the space reduction in your case. I hope the video helped though:)

    now they put these things where no one can find them much less change them to make more money on repairs knowing they are cheap made junk parts that don't last long , where are they on a 2001 Expedition ?
