    I breed guppies, but I have a small group of emerald corydoras. I've had them over a year and suddenly they decided to lay around 200 eggs all over the glass 3 days ago. never planned to spawn them and I've never dealt with fish reproducing that weren't live bearing, I managed to save around 60 eggs that weren't eaten or dropped to the bottom which I couldn't reach because I'm freaking short, so I suppose the guppies got those also!!! anyway they all hatched this morning. no kidding I have around 60 microscopic corydoras in a sterilite container with an air stone. thank you for your video because I really didn't know what on earth to do with them. I never used the methylene blue I just transferred them and I only had one egg turn white and I tossed it to the guppies. I'm so happy!

    • @mandy1339
      @mandy1339  5 лет назад +1

      Ashley. The methylene blue is not a must. The fact that almost no eggs turned white means your Corydoras are very fertile. Congrats on your eggs hatching. Just remember this is only the beginning of the battle to keep them alive until they are big and strong enough. Daily maintenance is crucial. 👍

      @Seamus hey I think you're right.. in my tank I have Cory's, guppies that continue to breed non stop, and some Otocinclus and it's well planet. a few nights ago I bought some new pellets for my bottom feeders but I noticed they were not eating them like the ones I had before.. it was late at night so i siphon the water out so they wouldn't contaminate my tank from over feeding. This is a 55 gallon and I think I took out 2 or 3 gallons.. now 2 days later I get all these eggs all over the tank.. so now with your theory of the rainwater I wonder can it work in reverse when you take water out. What's your thoughts on that? And still now I haven't put the three gallons back in yet the water level is still low.

    • @mandy1339
      @mandy1339  2 года назад +2

      Yes, that's a very good point that I did not address in the video. If your room is quite cold you will need to either transfer the water very slowly into the jar to avoid sudden temperature change, or if you have a warm room you can keep them there, or you can use a bigger size container instead of a jar and use another heater. Thanks for bringing up an important point.

I can't get a heater in the separate container and didn't notice one in the video, does this make a difference? I appreciate this video is years old but of any one has any info that would be great! Its actually easier to lower the water level, and then carefully remove them one by one.
    I set all the eggs on a small clean piece of plastic (yougert container lid), and then put the lid into another tank.
    Previously have tried smsll containers, smsller tsnks etc- but the best is really another tank.
    Currently using a 16 gallon plant tank for peppered cory eggs, with HOB filter, Sponge Filter, Airstones, and lots of Wisteria.
    Fortunately some eggs were laid on a Wisterisa plant pot, so just moved the whole plant! 20 or so bebes now, hoping for the best.

  • @Rajeev1710
    @Rajeev1710 6 лет назад +1

    Thank you. My Cory fry is a couple of days old. I am feeding them crushed flakes that I make really fine.
    Is that ok?
    Also do I still need to do the daily water changes in they are in their own tank?

    • @mandy1339
      @mandy1339  6 лет назад +1

      You are welcome. Make sure the flakes are very very fine. If you look very closely you might be able to see the food through their transparent bodies which means they are eating. Crushed flake works but make sure it is really really fine. As far as the water changes, how many gallons is the new tank? is it cycled? If it's a cycled tank of about 5 gallons you might not have to do daily water changes, but you should still check your water parameters frequently. The fry are very susceptible to water without ideal quality.

    • @Rajeev1710
      @Rajeev1710 6 лет назад +2

      Thank you very much. Yes I crush them very fine. The tank is 30 l or 7,9 US gal. It has a hob filter and temp is between 24 to 25 deg.
      I still have the male Corys in there. 2 of them the female passed away last night after she laid more eggs.
      Should I remove the males to the original tank?
      Ps I had no intention of breeding but after she laid eggs I had to protect them from the communal tank.

    • @mandy1339
      @mandy1339  6 лет назад

      Rajeev Devalall yes you should remove the males from the fry tank. It is very important for you to know what it means for a tank to be cycled. If the tank where you have the fry and the males is not cycled it will be dangerous to all the fish in there. Something you can do to help with that is to bring a sponge or rocks/plants from the main tank into the fry tank. The males should be removed now because they could kill the fry.

    • @mandy1339
      @mandy1339  6 лет назад

      Rajeev Devalall ideally you want to measure parameters such as the amount of ammonium and nitrite. Those are the 2 most dangerous to your fish, and unless the tank is an established tank with beneficial bacteria already living in it, ammonium and nitrite will build up quickly to deadly levels.

      Hello, they need the water to not be too deep, but it can be deep enough to fit a heater if needed. They will swim to the surface well enough where the water doesn't have to be too shallow. Just make sure it's not too deep. Also, some heaters can be positioned sideways inside the tank. And if you are using a jar for the first week or two, you can get by without a heater as long as the room temperature is not too cold. Hope that helps
