      I felt pretty good about it firing off ok. I've had tractors setting with a LOT of water down 'em and they fired up ok. The big thing is how long they sit that way. Some machines have weep holes that keep them drained too. That minimizes the amount that goes in and just sits.

    Hello Wendell , great video. I keep a coffee can over mine myself. If you get enough water in the cylinders it will hydrostatic lock of course because water will not compress. I am glad it fired right off!

    • @tractorman4461
      @tractorman4461  6 месяцев назад +1

      Yes, too much water in a cylinder sure will hydro-lock it Rob. The long term effect is devastating though. I recently picked up a 430 Case with this identical 188D engine that sat for close to 20 years with water in it.....yep, total rebuild coming on that one.

    Wendell I learned my lesson, believe that, and the worst thing is I knew all this and still forget to put something on the pipe

    • @tractorman4461
      @tractorman4461  6 месяцев назад

      It's a ritual for me....shut down for the day and cover 'em right then !! Plastics will deteriorate with sunlight, so on smaller pipes I use the soda cans because they last for ever it seems. Most everything else I use the propane cans because they are so thick and heavy. Bean cans will rust through because the lip holds water. That reminds me, I have to swing back by to see what you found on your A.

    Hi, Wendell. I keep my Ford Jubilee with the loader in a lower open shed. It has an underslung exhaust which is what it came with from the factory. I still put a can on the end of the tailpipe to prevent mice from scrambling through and building a nest in a place I won't find.

I'm just starting therapy on it this coming week. Two weeks ago though, it was pretty rough shape. I hope your back gets back in shape before the summers hard work arrives Danny.

    wind can also blow a flapper up and allow water to get in the exhaust. We have a Autistic Grandson who will remove the exhaust can's and throw them in the trash can. So I split the bottom portion of the can and use a hose clamp that I tighten with a wrench. I also place the cylinder caps from old Lp and oxygen bottles on the exhaust. There have been thousands of engines ruined because of rain water getting into the exhaust.

    • @tractorman4461
      @tractorman4461  6 месяцев назад

      All good ideas Randall !! Oxygen bottle caps ain't gonna move !! My neighbor lady's young grandson did the same thing to her old Allis B years ago. Froze and busted a hole in the block. She let me haul it off, so now it's up here rusting down. LOL

    My father in law left his tractor muffler uncovered. He started it and had too much water in the cylinders. The ruined the engine. I like to use a glass jar over the muffler.

      Hydro-lock can bend a rod in the right situation for sure Jeff... and of course we all know what happens to water in the winter !! A lot of guys throw a 5 gallon bucket over the pipes. I'm thinking glass would be fine too until that ONE time you forget it when you fire it up !! Then you better be ready to DUCK !! LOL

    would you believe an engine can lock up in 1 day . I left the hood on my 77 ford f-150 with v8 ( engine is 351-M) . unclicked. sometimes because to open it. You always had to slam down on the hood first. or sit on or something on that order, "then," I could click it open with the manual grill rod. Anyway I must of left it unclicked ( not shut all the way) and a storm overnight blew the hood open . So the engine got wet. To my surprise , the next day It would not turn over . I had to use a breaker bar on the balance wheel crankshaft bolt, to break it back loose. Then it was back to normal, & nothing more became of it, locking up.

    I 😊😊 like 2 use a metal coffee can W a 5 gallon bucket over the exhaust pipe and take a peace ✌ 😊 of rope and tie it down so the wind won't move it off and the air intake should be done the same way water will get in the oil bath air cleaner the same way then U have 2 take the oil cup off the air cleaner and pour out 😮😮 it's no good W water in it wash and wipe out and put clean motor oil again fill the oil cup 2 level put on and tighten 😊😊 OMG 4 6 2O24

      Yessir Clarence, all good tips for sure. I hate it when water gets in the oil bath. I have an old Ford 800 that I soldered a dozen pin holes in. Water had sat in it for so long it rusted through many years ago. I ruined an Allis B engine because the pipe just fit INSIDE the manifold and though I had the pipe covered, water ran down the outside of the pipe and filled the engine. Stuck it HARD !!
