I have a hak-ip lychee in my Orlando garden. It is, as you said, on the next level of deliciousness, but it is not particularly consistent with production. I think this is the case with many superior varieties of fruit. Some years the hak-ip makes few fruit and maybe none. But man are they good!

I would put it in the greenhouse or cover with a plastic bag for about 2 to 3 weeks.
