My Nan was protective like that. But she was never as harsh as Lou Beale. She was the Matriarch of the family though and she always spoke the truth and told you straight. I really do miss her.
And she could’ve been - she was with us until 2013 aged 99! Could’ve done Eastenders another 20 years easily and then we wouldn’t have had to suffer the insufferable Pauline…
@@gordonbennett5638 but soaps are nothing to real life anyway so it’s not the mater of how we live now, it’s about realism, only difference of life now is technology and people on their smartphones all day, nothing has changed much from that
yeh been watching it anawl on drama,,was getting into the storylines,,however past few nights this week, it hasn't been on, anyone no why,, wots the point of stopping it, like a drop of the hat,,wots the point in showing it in the first place!!!!!??????
Curious to think that Lou was opposed to her children divorcing or committing adultery, but had no apparent misgivings about abortion, despite the grisly details.
I never felt she had no misgivings about that, I think she was saying it to push Michelle into the emotional state where she could get to the truth. I used to watch Eastenders back then and had to have a hug from my mum after this scene as it was so emotionally powerful. I wept when Susan Tully did.
Wonderful acting from Susan Tully; it’s all in the eyes, especially her reaction to the crochet hook line.
Lou may be a battle-ax at times, like Pauline was, but when the family was concerned, she PROTECTED 'em. Just like Pauline did.

I wish Lou had been it in longer, would of loved to have seen her involved in some of the 90s storylines

Lou=best character of all time
Erm no WTF
Why cant soaps be like this these days . Proper reflection of life
Lou was part of the war generation. A totally different breed of people.
Because that's not how we live now.
Because it’s not the 1980s
They did with the bins and we were bored shitless

I wish I had a grandmother who protected me like Lou protected her family.
Me 2 And one that gave me money for drugs
Lou Beale is the best!
We later found out that Lou had a daughter. Hence why Pauline went to Ireland to find her.
Lou was great
yeah lol.
get rid of it
The only contraception is the word no? Yeah....coz saying no always works.
