Actually the god could make a rock he can’t lift and a rock he can lift because he could just make a rock he cannot lift with one hand and make the rock lift able with 2 hands
For those who don’t know, the classic answer to this for actual religions is that God is only all-powerful to things outside of Himself, which means He can’t contradict Himself. Which means He can’t make a rock He can’t lift. Zach please do something about these bots
The end of the video was basically the answer, he can make the rock unliftable and liftable whenever he wants at will. It's not like he can create an unliftable rock and not be able to lift it again.
It’s pretty simple logic tbh. If there is that kind of all powerful creature like him, he can create something, that even himself cannot lift(for example), but if he wants to he can do it. I believe it’s called “Omnipotent”.
A square circle and a rock so heavy that God cannot lift are illogical constructs rather than legitimate challenges to the concept of omnipotence. Zack clearly has not studied theology. No, God doesn't work in logical impossibilities, so the answer is pretty simple, no, God can't make a square circle, or a married bachelor, or create a rock he can't lift, he is outside of space and time, and has absolute power of that which he creates. According to the philosopher St. Augustine, this question fails in the sense that the statement is meaningless as such, for example: "Can there be a 3-sided square?" Clearly not, and this does not create a dilemma, because the question is not well formulated. Anyway, great video
@@Dud079 yes, there's stuff God can't do, like force you to do things God can't destroy your free will, not because He's not powerful enough, but because it goes against His character

As a Christian I think this is really interesting. And off the top of my head the only thing I can think of is that this defies human logic but not Gods alliknowingness.
St Thomas Aquinas, a great Christian philosopher, wrote on this. God is not omnipotent because he can't create illogicalities (like an unliftable rock) or something against his nature (like the ability to hate)
God transcends logic and yet is within logic because he is omnipresent and omnipotent. He is within and outside, He is and isn’t, He is does and does not.
Well as a Christian I would say that the God of the Bible is all powerful but he is limited by his being. If he does not lie the it must be true that he will never flood the world again like the Genisis account. With this in mind I would say this describes a false God not from the Bible. It’s a paradoxical question that defeats itself because it constructs a supposed a false god who will do anything rather than can do anything. This is against the logic that God created.
In actuality, God (specifically the Father and Holy Spirit) has no physical appearance, but I agree, if He had to be represented by a visual image, this one isn't actually too terrible.
I don't think you guys understand God already made a rock he can't lift and technically still can it's called a planet because he would only need to lift in relatively to another celestial body like the sun
To sum up every doubt, God can't contradicts Himself. God can do anything but will not do something that goes against His majesty (like becoming weak, which makes all religions that say God can turn Himself into a weak being like an animal or human sound so stupid, with all due respect). God isn’t bound by time or space, not bound by gender, and is beyond our imagination. And of course, the most important thing is that God is one (we see how gods in Greek mythology fight each other, that’s what would happen if more than one god existed).
Omnipotence is best understood as the power to do anything logically possible. Logical contradictions, like the "heavy rock" scenario, are excluded from the definition because they don't represent genuine tasks but rather errors in reasoning. "Can God create a rock so heavy that He cannot lift it?" simply highlights a misunderstanding of what omnipotence entails. It's akin to asking, "Can God make 2 + 2 equal 5?" The latter is not a task but a meaningless combination of words.
God's whole existence is that he isnt bound by our understanding of logic (I had edit it because my replies saying that logic and physics are two different things)

As a muslim I just wanted to say that according to Islamic theology, God is above human limitations and laws, including human logic. The idea of the "rock paradox" does not apply to His omnipotence because, in Islam, Allah is not bound by the same laws that govern the physical world or the logic created by human beings. The Quran states several times that Allah has power over all things (e.g., *Surat Al-Baqara*, 2:106). Divine omnipotence (in islam) is not limited to our limited understanding. Hope that helps!
So the reply to that is just whatver we do we can’t understand God power(divine omnipotent)? That it is just out of the human understanding, that seem really unfair and very like unprovable Also that actually kinda still apply,if allah came and created a rock with the will of it to be unliftable whatever he might do ,Would he be avle to lift it or not? If he can, whatever wau, that mean he isn’t able to overpower is own power with his power(but that would meant that he can’t do anything, since that rock does is unliftable even tho he did created it will the intention of it not being) If he cant lift it,that would mean he can overpower his own power with his power,by making something with the purpuse of it being that way,so he isnt all powerful since he did couldn’t lift rhat rock that he createed) There is no god logic,or understanding, that a situation of teest,he can or can’t Also that seem to be just a way to silence any critic and question on your religion since you can just say,God omnipotence is beyond human understanding Very nice patching any issue with a statement that cant be deny nor confirm
if the human mind came up with the concept of god yet god is beyond human understanding, should we trust that theory of god? why trust out own beliefs...
A coder does not need to follow the rules of his game Edit:I f@#$ed up did I? @@superj.v3920 How? Like, let's say that I were to write a code that says "u cannot use the word n". To ignore this rule I would need to code it, otherwise telling the computer by voice that it should ignore me, would not work. It would still follow its coding no matter what
I don't think any theist has argued for that. We have acknowledged that God can't do the logically impossible, but that isn't a limitation of power. This so called paradox stems from a missconception of definitions Errors: Omnipotence Paradoxical definition: The ability to do anything Actual definition: Absolute power Logic Paradoxical definition: a set of rules one could escape from with sufficient power Actual definition: the description of everything that is, or everything that is possible To say that something is illogical is precisely to exclude it from the realm of the do-able, no matter the amount of power. Since by definition the logically impossible negates its own existence and thus isn't even a conceptual possibility This, is not any limitation of power, it is simply coherence. And thus, God not being able to break logic does not constitute a limitation of his power, because of the very nature of logic itself, and the nature of omnipotence Please, before attacking theists with these weak arguments, do a bit of research. We have dealt with these things for centuries, and they fail at all times.
Aight so I'mma just lay this right here for everyone in this thread but I think there is a solution to this paradox and it's a really fucking simple solution is you study physics for even a little bit. While I'm not claiming to be 100% correct, I will say that everyone's kinda surface level for not thinking more into this. But uhh... Superpositions are a thing, in case people forgot.
Continuing from my last comment in this thread (this is copied from my main comment of this video): Bro the moment I saw this, I immediately started thinking about God being in a superposition, which might be the actual solution to this "paradox" but don't quote me on that because the keyword here is MIGHT. I think the solution here is that God exists in multiple states at once. Just think of this in terms of basic quantum mechanics. God's omnipotence operates beyond human logic and binary thinking naturally, but this isn't necessarily "beyond human thinking" at all if you're a physicist. To reiterate: In a quantum-like framework, God could both create the object and lift it in a way that goes beyond the regular understanding of physical limits suggesting that the concept of "can" and "can't" is irrelevant when applied to him (or her, or it, however you want to refer to God as). God's power might function on a level where contradictions coexist, much like how a quantum particle can exist in multiple states at the same time. So in this view, God is not bound by the paradox because his nature surpasses the constraints of classical physics/dynamics.
This is a logical fallacy, it's like asking: Can the colors white be blue at the same time ? *Obviously can't* Or Is there darkness in the light or is there light in the absolute darkness? Obviously this question can't be answered with our physical law because it will just contradict the existing law itself
He'd still be able to lift it then. The question poses both parties remained unchanged and clearly changing either the rocks size or gods strength is a breach in the question.
@DizaTak Then he could lift it. That's why it's a paradox, if he can change yhe rules at his whim then he can lift it whenever. If I can lift an object but choose to act like I can't that isn't me being unable to do so. The better arguments on this is that God is not all powerful in that he obeys the laws of physics because that in and of itself is not a contradiction to his power. Or given God is everything by proxy he'd also be the rock and like how one cannot lift oneself he cannot do the same. It's all theory and thought experiment which makes it endlessly cyclic

A lot of people don’t know that this is called circular reasoning. The question "Can God create a stone so heavy that even he could not lift it?" is considered a logical paradox, often cited as an example of circular reasoning, because it implies that if God could create such a stone, it would contradict the very definition of his omnipotence, meaning he wouldn't be all-powerful if there was something he couldn't lift; and if he couldn't create such a stone, it also contradicts his omnipotence as it would mean there is a limit to his creative power. Most philosophers argue that creating a stone too heavy to lift is a logical contradiction, meaning it is not something that can be truly conceived of or achieved, even by an omnipotent being. This is because the concept of "too heavy to lift" inherently implies a limitation on power, which contradicts the idea of infinite power. So long story short, people often just see the paradox, assume it’s right and then consider it fact. If people had dug deeper, they might’ve learnt something pretty interesting.
No, not really. It's stupid. It's like asking God to make a stick with one end. He is an omnipotent being; which means he can do anything that makes sense.
@prayingcranium you're confusing logic with possibility. It is possible to make a stone with any weight of you think about it. But a stick with one end is not but it would have to be outside the dimensional space that we live in. Making a rock with more weight each time is possible, if not, infinite. I agree that your logic is fair but it also doesn't correspond with omnipotence as it relates to having power whereas we talk about creation. But if you think about it. God can make a stick with one end but it wouldn't be visible to us due to dimensional laws. One dimensional you could say if viewed from such a point. But it's not logically possible to see a stick with one end in a 3d environment. But the rock being more in weight is something which should be possible. If God is omnipotent in your eyes, he should be able to create a rock that's unliftable even by him but then also be able to lift it. Your argument only supports the one end stick part but has nothing to do with if God can't do anything with it. In any sense, we can believe that God can change dimensional laws or even make it only viewable from a one dimensional array. It's impossible in the sense that it requires manipulation that is possible if we deem that God is omnipotent. But in the paradox mentioned in the video, such a experiment is certainly possible like we deemed that God is omnipotent but if he can never truly create a rock that he can't lift because if he can't lift a rock then he can't be all-powerful (omnipotence). It's a paradox which ultimately makes different viewpoints on the existence of a god. It doesn't mean that God doesn't exist but it gives us more factors into play when even considering if God is a real being. I do believe in god but up to now i do not have a definitive answer backing this paradox cuz it's a rather interesting yet broad sum of thought processed all into consideration.
@prayingcranium It's a good trait to accept defeat on certain topics when unaware of prior knowledge. I always like thinking outside the box? So that's helped me to reason with such an answer. I do love a good challenge when provided with one tho!
@@Wolphins I think its similar to this: A human creating a video game where a rock is so heavy, no in-game character can lift it(or a block so hard, no character can mine it). But the human itself can lift the rock by changing the lines of code, but the characters stuck in the game cant escape the matrix and change the code in a higher dimension. The question itself is illogical. The characters in the game cannot conclude that the creator is not all-powerful; the creator is all-powerful, to them.
Christian here. I think it would be a contradictory statement to say that an infinitely powerful being can make something and be unable to lift it, making the claim illogical. God is a maximal being, meaning God is all-logical, all-loving, all-wise, and in particular, all-powerful (I can go on about the attributes of God, but you get the point). This idea of being “all-powerful” was misunderstood in this video, for it excludes how God is a logical being, and therefore can only do logical things. By this, I mean that God can not create a square-circle or a window that is both open and closed, for the two definitions exclude each other and therefore are contradictory. This is known as the law of non-contradiction, where something cannot be true or false at the same time and sense. When it was said that God is all-powerful, and therefore can create something that God cannot lift, it is claiming that an infinite power can create something more powerful than infinite. How much more weight do you need for God to not be able to lift it? More than infinite. What's more than infinite? There is nothing greater than infinity, so nothing. You cannot logically have something that a maximally powerful being cannot lift. It violates the law of non-contradiction because it says that there is something that is heavier than infinity, which is a contradictory statement.
I dont think this problem is about power, but more about god's wish God wished for the rock to be more powerful than him, and it wasnt, so in this problem: god couldnt follow his conviction God is after all the creator of everything, that includes the logic he follows, so he could theoretically just bend the rules and lift that rock anyways, but then that rock isnt what god wished for: an unliftable rock I think that's the problem at stakes
@@AndrewJCFSuse your brain, could it be possible for God to create a square circle. No. If yes, then here's the answer: that question is contradictory, it goes against the nature of a circle. Basically god can defy logic because god can do anything, that makes sense in a way. But the other contradiction to this is supposedly since god is all powerful and can defy logic, why can’t god make a universe with both free will and no suffering? It doesn’t really have to defy logic to allow both but Christians insist it does so let’s just say it does defy logic then shouldn’t god still be able to do it anyways?
Because when Adam and eve ate the apple, and when man chose evil and selfish and sin and disobeyed him, that's when all the suffering started and continued on. He tried to end all this with the flood and with Sodom and gommorah and nineveh, multiple times but with ninevites he gave them a second chance. And sending Jesus to die on the cross for our sins so that even if you make mistakes or do bad or selfish things you won't go to hell. Of course there's still suffering in the world because the earth is corrupt and evil and cruel and cold.
You can't have free will and no suffering because when there's free will, people are capable of evil and selfishness and will use it for their own personal gain and their own ulterior motives and desires. And God has divine intervened multiple times and he will send his son Jesus to come back soon
Or so the Bible says Jesus is coming back soon, we don't know when or what day or week, months or years but we are in the end times and dark days and many events lined up with the Bible that the end is nigh
In Islamic theology, God's omnipotence means He has unlimited power, but this does not include performing logically impossible tasks. The question of whether God can create a stone so heavy He cannot lift it is a paradox, not a true test of His power. It represents a logical contradiction, similar to asking if God can stop being God. Islamic scholars argue that God’s omnipotence is coherent within the bounds of reason, and logical fallacies do not limit His power.

It's akin to asking, "Can God make 2 + 2 equal 5?" As a muslim I just wanted to say that according to Islamic theology, God is above human limitations and laws, including human logic.
He already stated within the video that god would need to defy logic, he knows this already
And yet the concept of God becoming man to act as the lamb to forgive our sins is illogical and unthinkable.
(Much love to my Muslim brothers)
God is our imagination so We can portray him as powerful as we want him to be.
So the reply to that is just whatver we do we can’t understand God power(divine omnipotent)?
That it is just out of the human understanding, that seem really unfair and very like unprovable
Also that actually kinda still apply,if allah came and created a rock with the will of it to be unliftable whatever he might do ,Would he be avle to lift it or not?
If he can, whatever wau, that mean he isn’t able to overpower is own power with his power(but that would meant that he can’t do anything, since that rock does is unliftable even tho he did created it will the intention of it not being)
If he cant lift it,that would mean he can overpower his own power with his power,by making something with the purpuse of it being that way,so he isnt all powerful since he did couldn’t lift rhat rock that he createed)
There is no god logic,or understanding, that a situation of teest,he can or can’t
Also that seem to be just a way to silence any critic and question on your religion since you can just say,God omnipotence is beyond human understanding

“He can’t lift it but he can still lift it”100% logicall😂😂
I don't think any theist has argued for that. We have acknowledged that God can't do the logically impossible, but that isn't a limitation of power.
This so called paradox stems from a missconception of definitions
Errors:
Omnipotence
Paradoxical definition: The ability to do anything
Actual definition: Absolute power
Logic
Paradoxical definition: a set of rules one could escape from with sufficient power
Actual definition: the description of everything that is, or everything that is possible
To say that something is illogical is precisely to exclude it from the realm of the do-able, no matter the amount of power. Since by definition the logically impossible negates its own existence and thus isn't even a conceptual possibility
This, is not any limitation of power, it is simply coherence.
And thus, God not being able to break logic does not constitute a limitation of his power, because of the very nature of logic itself, and the nature of omnipotence
Please, before attacking theists with these weak arguments, do a bit of research. We have dealt with these things for centuries, and they fail at all times.
he means can't lift with prob 1 hand but can lift with 2

Aight so I'mma just lay this right here for everyone in this thread but I think there is a solution to this paradox and it's a really fucking simple solution is you study physics for even a little bit.
While I'm not claiming to be 100% correct, I will say that everyone's kinda surface level for not thinking more into this. But uhh... Superpositions are a thing, in case people forgot.
Continuing from my last comment in this thread (this is copied from my main comment of this video):
Bro the moment I saw this, I immediately started thinking about God being in a superposition, which might be the actual solution to this "paradox" but don't quote me on that because the keyword here is MIGHT.

Fr
@KLMSkevmssur dad said HELL NAH because he a fictional character
He makes a rock that he cant lift at first, then makes himself strong enough to lift it
He'd still be able to lift it then. The question poses both parties remained unchanged and clearly changing either the rocks size or gods strength is a breach in the question.
@sirsteam6455 the thing about god is that god makes rules, that means he will just make it possible by literly thinking about it
@DizaTak Then he could lift it.

This paradox happened because we are assuming that God has limits but it's quite the opposite, he is the limitless God
We can assume that the rock could be theoretically unliftable even for God standards(this only applicable to lower deities/God's like Hercules, zues standard)
But as Almighty as he is he can prove us wrong all the time, impossible is not in God's vocabulary
@@francisjosephcutamora8530So your position is that God physically cannot make a rock which he cannot lift. That’s a thing he can’t do, which means he’s definitionally not omnipotent. We’re not assuming limits, we’re doing the opposite: We’re assuming omnipotence, then demonstrates that any omnipotent being can be proven to not be omnipotent, thus showing a logical contradiction and proving that nothing omnipotent can exist. It’s got nothing to do with limiting power and everything to do with not limiting power.

Because that being in itself is a creation of humans so therefore we can apply human logic to it.
Weaker than Goku tho
That's actually really philosophical!
@@Wolphins Well, I take the L on this one. You are way smarter than me.
What's bro yapping about
I dont think this problem is about power, but more about god's wish
God wished for the rock to be more powerful than him, and it wasnt, so in this problem: god couldnt follow his conviction
God is after all the creator of everything, that includes the logic he follows, so he could theoretically just bend the rules and lift that rock anyways, but then that rock isnt what god wished for: an unliftable rock
I think that's the problem at stakes

only his last line is wrong
The problem is that we are seeing with our limited human logic.
God's perspective of everything exceeds ours by countless times
I think were thinking abt wrong, he can create infinite rocks at infinite weight and be able to lift all of them
Basically god can defy logic because god can do anything, that makes sense in a way.
Bros taking “shit talk” to a whole new level 💀
In Islamic theology, God's omnipotence means He has unlimited power, but this does not include performing logically impossible tasks. The question of whether God can create a stone so heavy He cannot lift it is a paradox, not a true test of His power. It represents a logical contradiction, similar to asking if God can stop being God. Islamic scholars argue that God’s omnipotence is coherent within the bounds of reason, and logical fallacies do not limit His power.
Évidement, mais admettons qu'on pose réellement la question, il pourrait le soulever et ne pas pouvoir en même temps, ça s'appelle la dualité d'états quantiques....comme le démontre le chat de Shrödinger...
