This is a test of the 125 gr Elite 3 by Ozcut.
Here is summary of my 2024 Testing Procedure & Scoring w/the scores of this head posted in parenthesis as well.
1. Flight Forgiveness (20%, 18 pts)
I'm using a Killer Instinct SWAT X1 crossbow, mounted to a BOG tripod, shooting a 670 gr Bishop Archery GOAT bolt (300 fps) at 30 yds. Field points consistently hit in the 10 ring & bullseye. I use the exact same bolt to shoot the broadhead. The only difference in the two shots is the broadhead's flight forgiveness vs that of the field point. A bullseye gets a score of 11/10, or a score of 22. The 10 ring gets a 10/10, or 20 points; a 9 ring gets a 9/10 or 18 points...& so forth, with each wider ring being 1/2" farther from the bullseye. Mechs are also given 1 Bonus Point for extra forgiveness.
2. Cut Size (20%, 12.85 pts)
The more tissue being cut, the more lethal the head, all else equal. The entrance cut, total cut, & width of the cut (a crucial variable for bloodletting) are all scored:
The entrance cut size is compared to a standard of 2.5" then that fraction is weighted to 7% of the score. (1.69" = 4.73 pts)
The max cut size is compared to a standard of 2.5" as well, then that fraction is is weighted to 7% of the score. (1.69”=4.73 pts)
The max cutting diameter is compared to a standard of 2.0", then that fraction is weighted to 6% of the score. (1.3" = 3.39 pts)
3. Blades (20%, 17.83 pts)
Initial sharpness 9%, 323 grams = 8.77/10 = 7.89 pts & Edge Retention (9%, +59 grams = 8.82/10 = 7.94 pts) are measured using the Edge On Up Sharpness Tester. The pressure needed for a blade to cut thru a copolymer wire is measured in grams.
Edge Retention is the loss of sharpness after the head is shot in Penetration Test 1, thru 1/2" MDF & 2/3" rubber foam mat & Clear Ballistics FBI gel. For every 50 "grams" of sharpness lost, 1 point is deducted from 10.
What are some sharpness scores for common edges?
A butter knife takes 2000 grams of pressure to break the co polymer wire.
A new high end cutlery edge: ~ 375 grams of pressure.
A utility razor blade: 200 grams.
Based on the many broadheads I have tested, here is my scoring scale:
Out of the Box Sharpness:
0-200 gr: 10
201-300 gr 9
301-400 gr: 8
401-500 gr: 7
501-600 gr: 6
601-700 gr: 5
Ease to resharpen or replace blades is judged & given 2% of the score. (10/10= 2 pts)
4. Penetration (20%, 18.86 pts)
There are 2 penetration tests:
Pen Test 1: 1/2" MDF, 2/3" rubber foam mat, Clear Ballistics FBI gel. Depth of penetration is compared to a standard of 9" & weighted to 10% of the score. (8.75" = 9.72/10 = 9.72 pts)
Pen Test 2: Layered cardboard. # of layers penetrated is compared to a standard of 70 layers & weighted to 10% of the score. (64 layers= 9.14 pts)
5. Durability (20%, 20 pts)
Each head is shot thru 1/2" MDF 3 times. Its condition is judged 1-10 & weighted to 12% of the score. (10/10 = 12 pts)
If a head survives that, it is then shot thru 22 ga steel plate twice. Its condition is judged 1-10 & weighted to 5% of the score. (10/10 = 5 pts)
If a head survives that, it is then shot into concrete once. Its condition is judged 1-10 & weighted to 3% of the score. (10/10 = 3 pts).
Steel plate & concrete are certainly not "realistic" mediums, but they do reveal the outer limits of a head's durability.

Thanks for the review, I went with the 175 gr Gladius as I prefer a steeper angle if attack on big elk ribs. My group has had two bulls hit and survived due to quartering away rib deflections

This is a rather simple design that performs well ahead of its basic design. It just does most everything well. I would like to see a larger size in maybe a 1 1/4'' or 1 3/8'' model

I keep one of these in the quiver with my Sevr's in case I spine a deer or in case a big boar comes in. It isn't a true 1 1/8" by my measurements. They are super accurate. I sharpen them as best I can on a flat stone. I did shoot one into a big doe I spined last year. The entrance hole was a beautiful triangle a little bigger than the dia that cut the air clean off like with a pair of scissors. That indicated I was able to get them plenty sharp enough on my stone. The exit had the stretch cut effect and was over 1 1/4" at the wideset point.
That's 100% true. All grain sizes are actually just barely over 1". There is a stretch effect with the short head though you're right.

I like the blade thickness.
I like it's a single peice design.
I don't like the grind of the cutting edge.
I don't like the cutting edge doesn't go to the tip.
I don't like the back edge of the blades are sharpened.
I don't like the cutting dia, needs to be 1 1/4.
I'm sure others will like it but for me and animals I kill, I don't like it.

Probably one of the reasons why they usually cater to smaller heads is because of the game that they hunt in Australia is mostly bigger critters.
Yeah. But it’s still the same cut size as Montec; Muzzy 1, SS3 and most 1 piece 3 blade heads
Maybe not the best for sharpness and edge retention, but it sure is a tough little head and flies really well for me out to 80+ yards. And hard to beat for less than $35 a pack!
Did you notice that these were the shorter 125's like the older? Or am I imagining things. I feel like the last 125 we got was longer.
@@CEMuhlbeier They look the same as my 125s which are supposedly the newer stainless ones. The packaging wasn't updated to say stainless.

You should do a video i’m using the stay sharp system, sharpening one of the broadheads perhaps the Oscott showing how much sharper you can get it over the factory sharpness. that would be a winner in my book.
I did that a couple years ago. I did it with a slick trick SS three I think, or maybe it was a annihilator. But I often reference the RUclips channel called Innovative Outdoorsman, that’s from the owner of State Sharp guide. And he has a lot of great demos on there.
Iv killed quite a few animals with this head. It’s great on lighter game like impala or smaller bodied warthogs but it struggled on big boars. One boar actually broke a blade off after it hit the off- side shoulder. It wouldn’t be my go to broadhead on harder game but works ok on smaller framed animals. I liked the look of the head but I’m not that confident in it anymore, I think there’s better options. Thanks for the testing John.

Yeah, but they are easy to sharpen.
I think, depending on what it looks like you should think about showing us a close-up of the cinderblock after the Broadhead hits it. You wouldn’t have to put it up for long if we wanted to look at it closer we could always pause it.
I do that sometimes, if it makes an especially big hole or if it sticks into the cinderblock. But when it looks kind of normal, I don’t typically do it. It’s hard to appreciate the whole that makes with a two dimensional picture.
I love the content but I really liked it much better when your accuracy testing was done at long range.
Yeah, it’s funny, I had a number of complaints about shooting at long distance. People said it wasn’t realistic. They said most shots are at 30 yards so why don’t I test it that range? Can’t ha ha. And now it’s much more difficult for me to find a place to shoot at long distance. So I can get 30 yards in my backyard. That saves a lot of time. And it is more of an actual distance that people shoot at. But I understand what you’re saying. I used to shoot them at 80 yards and liked that a lot.

I wanted too. I even have some. But I already have tests completed and videos scheduled to drop twice per week through November. And I have a whole Nother bit with about 30 Broadheads, including those, dessert testing in the new year.

Ha ha. I’ve gotten so used to it. But I do cut myself every now and then. And now I’m on blood thinners because of this blood clot problem that was just discovered. So I have to be more careful.
Did you have to do much for tuning and or zeroing before this test? Thanks excellent content!
I never do any tuning before the accuracy tests. If the head is super heavy, like 200 grains or more, then I am a little high.
Just curious if you had any left over heads from the past to flight test out the cross bow. Maybe have enough heads to make an other video. And as always, thank you for all the testing.
It really depends. Sometimes I go through a whole pack in my tests and they are not in great shape after that. But other times I can use one head for pretty much everything. And I sometimes do retest the following year if I change some of the protocol.

Hey John just heard those Ozcut expandable broadheads are really bad. The blades are breaking off in jell.
Yeah, I started testing them and stopped. I figured I got a bad batch or something.
@@LuskArcheryAdventures Thats what someone else said about them. But those blades do not look very strong. Some guy shot them in gell and all 6 blades broke off.
The heads I seen had terrible factory grinds. Took some work to reset the bevel, but they got very sharp.

I've used the 344 extensively on this head with no issue. You just need to touch up the "tanto" tip as it's not inline with the rest of the head. This is very confusing. I just got some 125's and they had changed the model so that the 125 model is longer than the 100. This looks like a 100 grain or the old 125 as I've shot both of these extensively. The 125 that you tested before was the same length - Are these the new version or the old?
I’m not really sure about that. The old one I tested was so long ago. I know that was the old model. And this I know was the new model of 125 grain. That would be a good question to call them and ask them.
