Great video. I am fascinated by Lionel and its history. It's wonderful to see you have been graced by your father's interest in the hobby. I have a Super-O set from 1957 from my father-in-law.
I can relate. I’m in the process of inventorying, cleaning and repairing someone’s lifelong train collection. It’s a difficult and time consuming project. But on the other hand you get to see into the timeline of someone’s life. Impressive to see someone young with your experience and knowledge. Very nice.
Hey Dave, thanks for the comment! It's definitely an interesting experience going through someone else's collection, and the maintenance needed for those trains can also be staggering (especially difficult when you're away from home for college for months at a time!). I'm glad to be able to carry on the hobby for the younger generation.
Nice to see someone here on RUclips using Gargraves track. On that C&O MPC steam set. Open the tender and replace the foam under the electronic circuit board before you run it. Often the foam goes to nothing and the board shorts out and will not work the sound of steam and/or blows some parts out if it gets shorted to the metal bottom of the tender.
Thanks! I really like the Gargraves track, I think it looks pretty realistic and performs well for a good price. I've heard that tip from others about the MPC stuff too, I'll make sure to do that before I run it.
Really nice video Doug. Really enjoyed watching it while I sipped on some coffee. I’m happy to see 3751 back and fully operational. The Hiawatha looks and sounds great. Hopefully there’s a time I don’t work when you come back so we can run some trains.
Nice video. Your dad has quite the collection. I assume he had a layout? Would have loved to see that back in the day. I just pick up the 6 mth passenger cars yesterday. Now I just need to find a Hiawatha engine and tender.
Thanks for the comment! My dad never had a layout of his own, but we did belong to a club that had a very nice modular layout with a permanent spot to keep it (though that club has long since disbanded). Best of luck in finding an engine for those cars!
Really lucky guy you are. Funny when people speak of the 1980s and 1990s being Back in the day! To us American Flyer Trains collectors, that is like nowadays in because we are so danged old. Now for Postwar Lionel and American Flyer, the 1950s really is back in the day! You have a great collection there and I can see that Classic electric trains are coming back into an the new generations. Both young men and women are really taking interest in the excitement and artwork of these great models.
Set up in my 32 x 40 ft garage. It is ran all the way around the upper perimeter. My problem is keeping it running without keeping to adjust the Lionel Transformer. Can you tell me about a Digital Transformer. If I got one would I have to also get an updated engine. Thanks
Thanks for watching! I wouldn't worry about getting a newer transformer, I use a Lionel ZW from the 1950s on my layout. If anything it sounds to me like you need a transformer with more power, or you need more connections wired to your track to make sure the current gets distributed evenly. Hope this helps!
@@aknester1 There's a lot of different options. I'd recommend looking for a Lionel Lionchief Plus engine, which includes the remote you need to run it (or on the newer ones, you can run them with Bluetooth from your phone).
HI from Michigan - Are you some where in Kansas, just guessing because of your drive. Cool stuff for your layout • Cheers from the Detroit & Mackinac Railway 🚂

Thank you!
That steamer sounds great.

@@atsf3415dbr I hooked up the wires at 11 different spots from my transformer and it is better. Wasn’t sure what I would need for a Digital System

@@atsf3415dbr Thanks so much. I will definitely check these out.
Congrats on the haul. Looks like you are using Gargraves track and Ross switches?
Thanks! Gargraves track and Gargraves switches. They aren't bad, but I think Ross switches are more reliable.
