      Hobbit's a good race mate! Challenging heights, underground... I guarantee you'll go 'ungry, because as long as there's a time of day, someone's gonna need something eaten.
      (I've actually started doing elevenses to some degree, not as a fourth meal but more of a brunch because waking up at 9am is too late for breakfast if you still want lunch, and if you do eat breakfast you'd have to wait until like 1-2pm to reasonably eat lunch which throws off dinner if you're trying to eat that at a good time too. )

    It's not extra Hobbit stomachs - it's their size!
    As body mass goes down metabolism burns more energy due to heat loss from increased surface area relative to mass. Also as size goes down the efficiency of the digestive system declines. In short small creatures have to eat more and we see this consistently in small mammals. The problem becomes worse for herbivores.
    To simulate this use smaller servings or do very high energy exercises between meals. I would also recommend a fiber supplement with each meal to help with digestion.

    • @tyler1673
      @tyler1673 3 года назад +5

      They have to eat more proportional to their size at least.

    • @commanderbacon6426
      @commanderbacon6426 3 года назад +7

      Yeah, small creatures eat more, but only
      Proportional to their size, large creatures still eat more. So it depends if they are eating 7 hobbit sized meals, or 7 human sized meals.

    • @gallendugall8913
      @gallendugall8913 3 года назад +10

      @@commanderbacon6426 No, economies of scale do not produce proportional results. The common shrew (0.6oz) will eat 300% of their body weight (1.8oz) every day. A Black Rat (6oz) will eat 30% of their body weight (1.8oz) every day. A bison (56,000oz) will eat 1.6% of their body weight (896oz) every day. Economies of scale are extremely powerful and apply to numerous fields. Unfortunately they do not get taught in public schools since socialists have denounced the concept of economies of scale as "capitalist lies".

    • @Kolvarg
      @Kolvarg 3 года назад +6

      @@gallendugall8913 Their point, I believe, is that even though they might eat a higher percentage of their weight, it doesn't mean they will actually end up eating more than (or even the same) in total as a human.

    • @gallendugall8913
      @gallendugall8913 3 года назад +5

      @@Kolvarg If we assume the meals to be proportional to Hobbits, and the Hobbits obey the laws of thermodynamics, then seven full (Hobbit sized) meals a day is approximately correct.
      A roughly 2 meter 90kg man has a surface area of 1.9 m2 and eats 1.8 kg of food per day (0.6kg per meal)
      A roughly 1 meter 31kg Hobbit, should have a surface area of 1.25 m2 (that weight to surface area ratio is the key) and if consistent with other hairless (resulting in more heat loss) large brained (big brains are terrible for energy drain) endothermic mammals should be eating around 2.1 kg of food per day (0.3kg per meal) so they would slowly starve if put on a human diet.

    So in the fire service (at least in my area) there is a #1 rule in the fire house, "Don't @#$% (screw) with the cook." Because when you do, you get a horrible meal. If you do mess with the cook, generally speaking you get punished.
    Now AFTER the meal has been served, and most especially if the meal isn't up to par, THEN game on screwing with the cook, because they have been left alone, usually all day, to cook and screwed it up.
    I'm just saying, you can't legitimately say the cook screwed up if you screwed with the cook while he was cooking. I won't say what punishment is dished out, but it wasn't just harsh words, LOL.

    I think your problem was that you made the meals too big. When I hear Elevenses I think of a small snack, not a big burger.
    This is how I view every meal:
    Breakfast - very simple, quick to make, quick to eat the first breakfast exists so Hobbits don't have to be hungry while washing themselves and preparing the proper breakfast. Just one or two slices of bread with a glass of milk or juice.
    Second Breakfast - a proper meal this time. Scrambled or boiled eggs, pancakes, bacon, coffee.
    Elevenses - a small snack to bridge the gap between breakfast and luncheon. At the smallest, this could be only an apple, at the largest it's just a repeat of the first breakfast.
    Luncheon - a full, warm meal.
    Afternoon tea - a nice tea and some baked goods, usually biscuits or cake.
    Dinner - dinner is dinner. A second big, warm meal to really fill the stomach.
    Supper - essentially a light late night snack. What you guys had for tea comes close to this.
    Honestly, I don't see a problem eating that much spread across the day.

    This sort of reminds me of Polish Christmas feast, where traditionally you have 12 dishes, and are expected to eat a portion of each.

      @@piotrekmajewski4867 Pretty sure it would depend on A) the dragon in question, and B) whether the ratio of meal size to stomach volume remained the same. I feel like a mid-sized dragon would be easily able to put away the same volume of food as Hobbit Ben did here, and more. But if the amount of food was scaled proportionately to stomach volume... You're probably right.
