    John was never afraid to openly express himself with his writing, no matter the repercussions. That continued through his solo career. Some examples being I’m a Loser, Nowhere Man, In My Life, Revolution, Strawberry Fields Forever, Don’t Let Me Down, Mother, Isolation as some examples

    This was the flip-side of 'Hey Jude'. A massive hit. One small problem for some people. John's distorted guitar. No one had ever heard anything like that in a pop song. People were reported going back to the record store for exchanges thinking there was something wrong with the record. No, folks. It's the Beatles. It's what they do. It's what they're good at.

    yes, a great song. 1968. Hell of a year. Their slow bluesy version (with the 'do-wop' background) was on the so-called White Album. The single release was the same arrangement here, without the do-wops, that made it even more fun.

    The Beatles were asked to financially and figuratively spearhead a revolution to overthrow governments by any means necessary. This song was John's response. He opposed the violence, but couldn't rule it out completely "out...in". The Rolling Stones were also approached and they too responded with a song "Street Fighting Man". ✌

    Thanks for your words of wisdom. I think John Lennon was involved in supporting some radical causes in late 60s and early 70s but knew that potentially that changes are not always successful and can often be destructive especially with “minds that hate” - we know through history of these extremes in 20th century of communism and fascism. But also peaceful change is possible and there have been good leaders such as MLK, Ghandi and Nelson Mandela

      Really? That's interesting. I would argue that the album version is the more obscure. The album version (the slower one) is called 'Revolution 1' whereas this version (the fast/louder one) is called 'Revolution' and was released as a single B-side alongside 'Hey Jude' (which was the A-side) as it was the way more catchy/commerical version of the two. Listen to it again when John sings, "You can count me out," he immediately says, "in." His mind wasn't made up whether he was prepared to fight or not. On the slower album version called 'Revolution 1' made later he just says, "out." Sometimes destruction is necessary, to clear a path build something new you've got to tear down the old structure. John later said he regretted putting in the part about Chairman Mao, it was just a cheap rhyme.

    Charles Manson (who was obviously crazy) thought that the Beatles were the four horsemen of the apocalypse as described in the Bible. In the version of this song called, "Revolution #9", they say, "don't you know that you can count me out (In)". The "in" part is very clear in that version so Manson interpreted that to mean that they were undecided as to whether or not to have a violent revolution. He thought that the entire White Album was full of cryptic messages. The "family" members who committed the murders wrote "Pigs" in blood on the wall as a reference to The Beatles' song, "Piggies" as well as "Helter Skelter", another track from the White Album. I heard a lecture from the prosecuting attorney during college (1978). It was interesting but creepy

    I can't understand why you have never reacted to Robbie Williams. He is the biggest British solo artist in chart history.
    He beats David Bowie, Elton John, George Michael and even Paul Mccartney in solo guise for the most solo number one albums by a British artist and ties with Madonna for the second-most worldwide solo chart toppers ever. He is only beaten by Elvis.
    He holds the world record for fastest concert ticket sales ever with over 1.6 millions tickets sold in just one day for his 2006 world tour.
    Through the snobbery of the music press who don't seem to like successful artists he is virtually unknown in the US.
    It reminds me of when some obscure little foreign language film wins the oscar over a big popular blockbuster film.
    Please give him a listen.
    I suggest Robbie singing 'Angels' live at Knebworth from 2003. The crowd is huge and makes the cowd at Queen concerts look small. I think you will love him if you don't already know him. A master of his craft at his peak.

      I got, the "Live 8" concert, on DVD, and I seem to recall Robbie perform "Angels", but he lets the crowd sing, so I missed parts, as he romps around, in the crowd.

    I like the song, but I hate how it starts so promisingly and turns into a run-of-the-mill Beatles-skiffle. That's the achilles heel of Beatles (and probably one of their strengths): However hard rock (or anything different) they wanted to go, it always ended up mainstream pop. Loads of talent but switching genres wasn't one of them.

      @ollietsb1704 2 года назад

      @@smitisan4984 It was common practice for different labels to contractually prevent "guest starring appearances" on either identified recordings, on-stage or on video. That's why Clapton's not given any credit on The White Album, or why George isn't identified with his own name on Cream's Goodbye album (playing guitar on BADGE). Or Billy Preston, or even George Martin from being identified as the keyboard player with the Beatles. The companies preferred the illusion - the lie - that their artists did it all themselves. Somewhere in the early '70s, that changed. Fortunately.
