I agree. One thing I noticed that he went to far with was the cheek cut. It'ss so much easier to cut it on one side of the board instead of transferring the line to the other side.

When making these videos and trying to get all the various points right it’s just not easy and I Wood recommend that the Rafter crown top edge would be best towards you for the students to see and understand more clearly especially the dropping the Hip deduction.
any proper framing square contains all the info you are looking for, just follow the various tables under the rise listed on the blade. generally on the hip run we just use 17 rather than 16.97. and stick framers usually never notch the corner, it is just cut square.
@@theroadnottaken9378 I’ve worked in different countries and they all have different ways and preferences! And it’s also good to be able to switch between pitch ratios and degrees it’s all part of the learning the experience and the Art. I’ve So it’s definitely not one shoe fits all !
I think i need to take a semester long course to understand what you are even talking about and to make head or tails of the 200 marks you just drew on on that board

If possible please write out the formulas starting from how did you calculate 16.97 as hip constant? Thank you
12x12 equal 144 plus 12x12 equal 144 then 144+144 equal 288 square root equal 16.97056 that's how hope this help

Most students got lost with 16.97 and 17 on the square.
Is there a video out there anywhere that explains and you actually understand how to light these rafters out

Where can i buy the rafter stick that the framing square is attached to?
I'm pretty sure this rafter gauge was not purchased in any store, any carpenter can easily make one of these.
You can make one some would use just stair gauges,one on the pitch and the run , for plumb cut and seat cut
