    Just finished rebuilding my own master cylinder using your video as a guide. Thank you very much for this helpful tutorial. Gave me the confidence to take mine apart and change all the seals. A few observations during my rebuild:
    It’s amazing how much crud gets accumulated under the boot. The snap ring was a real bear to get out. I sprayed some penetrating lubricant on mine And let it sit overnight. It was a little easier the next day.
    When reassembling, the new seal that goes over the piston (which reminds me of the Stanley cup) is tricky to get on but with some persistence, it’s doable.
    Thanks again Mark!

    For those that watch this, it might help if you prime the cyl before you install and hook up the output line. I could not get my cyl to prime after installing. Took it apart 3 times to check the installation of the parts. On the 3rd time I primed the cyl before I installed and now good to go. Thanks for this video, very helpful.

    Great video Mark! I'm going to rebuild mine as soon as I finish the refurbishing of the front calipers and the rear I think for me is pretty intuitive HOWEVER I was unaware of the return port issue. I've learned that from you so thank you very much. Way to go.

    Good job! Well narrated and shot. If the inside barrel of the master cylinder is corroded, a strip of crocus cloth can be wrapped around a wood pencil or small dowel and pushed into the barrel of the cylinder and rotated a few times until the corrosion is polished away. Be sure to squirt all debris out with brake clean spray. Good job.

    Thanks so much for sharing your knowledge bro! Such a simple job now that I've seen how it works. I'll be ordering parts and rebuilding mine. Cheers from Montreal!

      I'm waiting on my rebuilding kit from Amazon, then I will get started. At this time I have zero brakes on my rear , I mean nothing. So I'm hoping this rebuild will solve the problem.

    That little ring you put on the piston is that Groove go to the outside or does it go to the inside of the cruise

    Thx for vid. You switch from DOT 3 to 5 as part of rebuild? Have to empty and rebuild calipers if so but that DOT 3 is a pain. Switch to the SS lines at same time.

    I am curious if you have a video on how to bleed the brakes. I have taken all brake parts apart including the pressure control valve. The fluid shoots through the line to the pressure control valve and when I blew air through the value it seemed to have clear passages, however I am not able to get a good stream of fluid to either the front or rear caliper. Any suggestions would be extremely helpful.

    • @mrmarkg8564
      @mrmarkg8564  4 года назад

      Paul, Sorry I don't have a video for that, there was plenty of videos for bleeding brakes. How are the brake lines?

    • @paulmcpherson1234
      @paulmcpherson1234 4 года назад

      @@mrmarkg8564 I took all the brake lines off and shot air through them and they seemed clear as Air was going through them fine. I also blew air through the proportioning valve. When pressing the brake pedal, I had good flow to the proportioning valve, however when connecting the front and rear lines, I only had a trickle at the rear and little to nothing to the front. I assume even though air went through the valve that there could be buildup somewhere in the inner workings of the valve that would prevent the fluid from pushing on through. I plan on taking it apart tomorrow. Any ideas on where one can get the inner workings of the proportioning valve if I find a problem?

    • @mrmarkg8564
      @mrmarkg8564  4 года назад

      @@paulmcpherson1234 I have never looked at the proportioning valve, but I don't think there is much to them. Sounds like you have a clogged line somewhere. Air will flow through much easier than brake fluid. If you have not checkout out the goldwingdocs.com forum I would check it out. Lots of people sharing there problems and solutions on there (clogged lines, bad or incorrectly assembled calipers, issues bleeding brakes and more).

    Excellent video. I am doing the same job on an 85' Gl1200 Interstate. I was wondering if the Black Nylon Hose used for the brake reservoir line is a universal part I could use on my GL1200 or specific to the GL1100?

    • @mrmarkg8564

      The nose is just 7/16 black nylon race hose, the links for it can be found under the "more info" link under the video.

    Great video thanks! I’m confused though because the parts pictured on amazon for 4272 dont look like the parts in my master. 4271 look like mine. I have an ‘83 gl1100 A

    • @mrmarkg8564
      @mrmarkg8564  6 лет назад

      Hi Darrel, According to the K&L Product Catalog (link above) page 319, the 83 GL1100A also uses the 32-4272 kit. Be careful just looking at the pictures on Amazon, many use stock photos which may not be the actual part. If you noticed in the beginning of the video, I purchased the wrong kit (32-4271) first and had to exchange it for the 4272. The diameter of the piston is different between the two kits. Yours should be the 4272 unless your master cylinder was swapped as some point. good luck with yours.

      Maybe you could help me with something else... I just rebuilt the rear caliper and my bleed screw broke off but there’s another hex head screw at the rear of the caliper where I can also drain fluid. Do you know if it’s possible to find a bigger bleed screw for this port?

      Reuben, if you are referring to the tool at 15:05 used to pickup the o-ring, sorry I don't remember. I checked the tool but there is nothing on it. I've picked up some many small tools from working in the electronics industry for 30+ years, that I've lost track. Google Hook and Pick Set and you can find them. Good luck!

    OK, I have a question. Your video is very good but you list 2 part numbers for the 1983 Goldwing interstate. Your video shows part # 32-4271 and then below in your comments you list part # 32-4272. I went on line (ebay) and ordered part #32-4272 and looks just like the old parts but I cannot get it to pump fluid. Is there a difference between the 2 numbers?

    was there any corrosion in the barrel of rear master cylinder?

    • @mrmarkg8564
      @mrmarkg8564  6 лет назад

      Nothing that didn't clean up with a rag and brake cleaner. If you have corrosion, you can probably clean it up with some fine sand paper as long as it is not pitted too bad.

      Hi Mark, I couldn't help but notice in the beginning of the video the K&L kit part # is 4271 which I ordered and was the wrong size. So I went back to your video and around 9:40 you show K&L kit 4272. which is the bigger piston size. I take it this is the correct Kit. Thanks Charlie
