- Well the 24/25 is officially underway now with calving hitting the ground, and I'm off to a good start replacement wise. It was definitely worth mating the heifers to AI and the benefits are paying off big time now with good replacements coming through as faster genetic gain.
Hope you enjoy it.
Great video. Best of luck with the calving season. Brilliant seeing you and your little helper.
Best wishes Neville
Interesting with the tanker driver.
We don't see ours, always evening pick ups.
We use halter here.
Milking 470 in a 40 bail hearingbone south of Rotorua.
Did you look at getting this system?.
So much time not bringing cows in, no break fencing.
Able to drop collars on cows who have calfed and let them only on new grass.
My bosses say that they have saved so much time and money by not having to employ more staff and the amount of fuel used daily
Despite being about 3km from the factory we are always on night to.
I like the concept of it, its a great bit of kit but I can't justify it at the moment, maybe one day I can look back into it
The only trouble with you calving is that’s signaling that we are coming to the end of our summer and you’re coming to the start of yours Andrew😊, good luck with the rest of the calving
I might be getting a job on a dairy farm so i have to remember alot of stuff so im watching your videos.
I had a beef heifer have the same problem with her feet after her first calf. Standing on tiptoes. She did come good after a while. Had no more issues with her later calving.
As we call it, shes knuckled takes a couple weeks for it to come right, just alot of strain the the joints and ligaments, big day on the calving front
Hopefully she does, she’s walking pretty good, just when pushed she tends to not put her hoof flat.
Only going to get busier 😬😅
Do you find any need for night checks of the calving cows?
Awesome channel. Watching from Hawkes bay. Do you feed your calves while milk all the way through? Or do you use a CMR?
Was the angus calf a girl or a boy? (Q from an 8 years old fan)
I can’t quite remember now sorry, but I think it was a girl 👍
looking good have 25 in so far south naki about to ramp up
You’re well under way! Beauty 👌
Welcome back
👍
How ya going mate
So the calves get taken away from the mother as soon as they are born?
I mix in 1%apple cider vinegar into milk and fed about 20⁰C,fed ad-lib and stops milk scour
How do you track what calves came from what cows? Must be hard to track whats a good replacement and her genetics
Dna samples then tag later
@@bramhague2010 simple solution.
I try and check them regularly, but over night it’s pretty difficult but at the end of the day they are DNA to keep accurate records 👍
@@TheOnceADayFarmer perfect. No I'm based in Ireland where we keep all calves (bulls and heifers) and we have to register the cow and bull within 28 days of birth. Your system is just so much easier admin wise. Very jelous.....plus you can calve outdoors.....the rain/the EU here doesn't allow that.
Hi I like your video
What are you going to do with the Anguses?
Not sure yet, hopefully might be able to sell them 🤷
On my sixed day of caving ther is meant to be 80 cows to calves because we have 650 jersey cows
Busy week coming
we got 60+
What do you do with the bull calves
Bobby truck
@@LifeWithBigDogs Didn't you hear that he's going to raise them, and eventually sell them? Did you actually watch the video?
@@MissJools11 He ain’t gonna raise all of them. He only said around 12 or more
👀🙄🐾👍Great video Andy
You know your busy calving when you forget to take your milking sleeves off!
Haha yes, leave them on some days when it’s colder and not raining 👍
