    Good video. This winter (we live in Canada) our 2013 Taurus rack and pinion would not steer until the engine had warmed up. Turns out water had filled the cavity where the motor and that small belt is and was a block of ice until the engine had warmed it up. We have not been able to find a replacement yet. It was put back together and now make the same noise as on your video until we found a replacement. According to Ford they are year specific and we think it has to do with electrical plugins. The scrap yard tells me there a two different numbers for 2013, the newer version for me because the car was built after March 2013.

      Are you sure it's got the electronic steering EPAS system? Also, I'm not really sure if you can buy just the bearings...Through parts stores like Autozone or through the dealership, the part (in my case ER1002) is the complete epas unit, there is no break down part numbers for the internal pieces. You may still be able to find them through a junk yard, or online like through Atlantic automotive which I believe is the company that rebuilds the units for autozone where I got mine....but there are a few companies autozone uses to get these remanned units, and they have access to the parts somehow, so contacting them might result in answers on how to get just the bearings....with some internet skills and persistance you may be able to track down the individual pieces. Good luck to you, hope this helps.

      I'm sorry to hear that. Well if it makes the exact same sound when you turn the wheel, car on or off, it's very possibly the same thing. I had driven through high water before it started and I believe that was the root cause... a leaky seal allowed water to get in and rust out the bearings...I drove mine for quite a while like that because it wasn't affecting the power steering...just annoying grinding sound. If the actual motor goes out on the EPS, it gets dangerous....if it's just the bearings like mine you can probably drive on it for a bit until they eventually wear completely out...hard to say how long that would be. Drive at your own risk - disclaimer :) I didn't take mine on highways or high speeds just incase it failed completely but around town I drove it quite a while...probably a month or two before fixing it. Hope this helps.

I’ve heard people saying that the auto market might crash and vehicles will suddenly be much cheaper. Anyway, until/if then, a Taurus is a nice AWD vehicle. So I was told my steering gear is out. Only symptoms I have so far is loose steering in the front. Car takes on every groove and goes in all kinds of directions. Steering ability has diminished and little skips when turning the wheel slow. I don't have this noise or a code. Was told it's not my gear, but the computer has become inoperable and is not communicating with the main computer. I'd assume I'm fucked right?

    • @therealnomadtrading
      @therealnomadtrading 7 месяцев назад

      Sorry I'm just now seeing your comment and you've probably already fixed the problem....but....if you have the electric steering and it is a problem with communicating with the computer, I'd have the local Ford dealer reflash/sync it....I don't know what the correct term for it is, but after I replaced mine it didn't drive right until I took it to Ford and had them hook up their computer and sync/flash it so that it could recognize the new unit and work properly....cost around a hundred bucks unless you can get a nice tech to do it quick for free....only takes them a couple minutes. Loose steering is odd symptom because usually when the electric steering goes out in any way, it just locks up and becomes almost impossible to steer. Problem is, it is a "sealed system" so it doesn't matter much what the problem is (unless it just needs computer flash or an issue with the column) because the repair is the same for almost all issues in the EPAS, you have to replace the whole unit. Hopefully you got it fixed and it didn't cost ya much and I'm wasting my time typing this... haha :)

    • @jdezir
      @jdezir 7 месяцев назад

      @@therealnomadtrading no it's not fixed yet. I've been stuck on this issue and the only place it's been was the dealer and received this diagnostic. I really do appreciate your opinion because I was wondering as well why I'm still able to steer even though it is shitty but it's driveabke and not locked up. I'll take it to another shop and see what they find and hopefully maybe it can be reflashed or synced. Job cost between 2800-3000 for part and labor. I'd like to change it myself but I'm worried about damaging the system before I get it flashed. Am I able to replace it myself and just take it to the dealer after to flash? There. Isn't risk to damage any of the components on the rack? If that's the case, that would surely save me a lot of moneu
