I lived 18 years in Atlanta starting in 1999. One of my first jobs was a Mental Health Clinical Director at a children’s residential center, 90% were children from the foster care community. My floor was little girls aged 11 to 14. I along with other therapists provided 1on1 and group counseling to these children. What I learned was that some of these girls were placed in a temporary shelter (downtown Atlanta) prior to finding foster parents. Pimps knew this and would purposely target that shelter. Girls would run away?? (really be coerced by the pimps) and the state would find them or get them back, that’s when I would get them in residential centers, it’s been over 20 years since I worked there. Listening to the brave and beautiful woman’s stories brought me right back to the horrific stories I heard from those little girls mouths. I will never forget it and the crimes against children, unspeakable acts, still emotionally shake me to this day.
Thank you, thank you so much for sharing your story. We need to expose these things, keep talking beautiful lady and again with love, thank you.

I’m an adult sexual violence survivor and I’ve also worked in youth serving, crisis-type programs. That included a hotline worker in Atlanta while I attended CAU off and on from ‘96-‘99 and a resource outreach case manager for a high risk maternity program in Portsmouth, VA.
Atlanta was and is still wild. There is a heavy and egregious spirit of entitlement, human rights violation, perversion, pedophilia and sadistic invincibility all over that damn city. Wasn’t it just 2 years ago that a Red Lobster waitress was snatched from a bus stop and sold into sex trafficking? I remember the interview very well. The reporter was even crying because this baby’s vivid details about her many, graphic violations was near vomit-inducing. I felt so bad for her.
I saw a lot of Atlanta’s underbelly while dating this one security guard I worked with Grady. He was contracted at clubs, strip clubs, bars, private parties, etc. Magic City HAS to be in bed with Atlanta PD to somehow remain open after the stuff that goes on in there.
There’s just so much money exchanging very dirty hands as part of a city/state/global inside job. Some of those Hartsfield employees and contractors need to be shaken down. I remember there was always an off campus gig that promised a better life. Freshman and transfer students were ripe. I had classmates who stripped to pay their tuition. I saw flyers recruiting “models” for a swimsuit mag. I rented a room in a boarding house near the West End that was owned by a dirty cop. I came to find out: 1. He had 3 lookouts who lived there. 2. I was the only resident who wasn’t an addict. 3. Some people who I later found out were mules, were underage.
A LOT of professional ball players had some of the prettiest campus girls as side chicks who they put up pretty comfortably in some fancy Dunwoody, Alpharetta, Suwanee, or Buckhead condo. I had a fling with one of the air jockey’s at V-103 (no, not Frank or Griff) that told me some things I really didn’t want to hear. He was one of the radio personalities on the Fantastic Voyage TJ cruise and talked about the ship-wide orgy that was practically going on during the cruise.
I heard about the girls who were in relationships with married professors in exchange for stellar grades. I was their during the years when Ennis Cosby was murdered AND when that very high profile gang rape happened in that Morehouse dorm. Trust, it only made the national news because her father worked in Admissions at Spelman and raised hell. Dr. Johnetta Cole held a prayer vigil for her. Then a damn riot practically erupted after all 3 guys were basically given a slap on the wrist. They got kicked off their teams, was ordered to stay off of Spelman’s campus for one year, and something else. I forgot what. Shame.
Those first few years after Mayor Campbell shut down Freaknik were a mess because that typical Gold Rush spike in fast money Spring-time usually ushered in was no longer available. So the need to hustle that degree of surplus cash, even if only for one annual event, drove a lot of activities underground again. Forcible bondage such as homemade VHS porn, gang/fraternity/ransom initiations, escort services, you name it. Pimps, madames had to resume out of town traveling to recruit again because would-be victims weren’t readily crawling all over the A by the 1,000s like Freaknik crowds of the past. I saw a lot. I remember a lot.
I worked 3d shift at the Howard Johnson Hotel in Midtown. The guy who trained me would change a clean room to dirty in the system so I wouldn’t book it. Then he’d give a pimp or a John a clean sheet to throw over the made bed and tell them they have 1 hour. And not to touch anything except the sink. Then he’d pocket the money, check the room, and switch the room status back to clean. I often wondered if some of those ladies were consenting prostitutes or underage victims. My coworker told me I didn’t see nothing and I don’t know nothing. I said okay. That dude made a killing, especially with suite rentals.
I believe that raggedy hotel had 2. If we had a bachelor of some other party booked, he’d hand people a stack of towels and literally forbid me to go up there. Like the night one of Atlanta PD’s finest had his bachelor party up there. I don’t know what went on. BUT there were a lot of guests, pretty women, and what looked like bouncers went up. No one came out of that room FOR HOURS. The few who did were pissy drunk and reaked of a marijuana, beer, and cigarette stench.
Atlanta, GA is a modern-day Sodom and Gomorrah.
The first time I was sexually assaulted was during my time in Atlanta. It was a visiting supervisor at the local Pizza Hut I used to work at on Campbleton Road in the West End. The one past Huddle House on the right. I’m not sure if it’s still there. Probably not. THEE ghetto-ist place ON EARTH to open a Pizza Hut. I won’t go into details, but I did change my mind and said I wanted to go to sleep. He laughed and told me to quit playing.
So I consented to sex just to get it over with so he would quit bugging me and I could finally go to sleep. BUT he’s well endowed and started getting rough. I SAID “STOP.” He ignored me and got rougher. I REPEATED “STOP! IT HURTS. GET OFF OF ME!” Again, he ignored me. He then locked me in his arms in a bear hug so I could no longer move AND SPED UP. I couldn’t go anywhere. We were at his friend’s house, with that man and his lady who were in their bedroom.
It had Armageddon snowed earlier that day and up til the evening some time. The streets were impassable. No buses were running. I didn’t even know the address to the house I was in, nor which part of Atlanta. I just had to shut up and stay there with him until morning when the ice melted a little.
His name is Kota. I don’t remember his last name. But he’s a tall, slender, light skin man. Taller than me and I’m 5’10, give or take. He was the company class clown with a goofy sense of humor, almost immature, you could say and cracked jokes the ENTIRE shift. He talked about his kid a lot and his ex. I don’t remember her name. But he said her nickname was “Lady” because she carried herself with so much class.
Kota said they had a one night stand too, and “We got 4 years and a beautiful baby out of that one night.” The only time he wasn’t being silly is when he talked about her. I could look in his eyes and tell that Lady was the one who got away. 15 years would go by before I uttered a word to anyone about how my temporary Pizza Hut supervisor violated me that night. I just told a girlfriend, not any authorities. MARTA wasn’t running anyway and Kota was my only ride back to my apartment.
He acted like nothing happened the next morning. He showered and got dressed, then started cracking jokes with his friend. Then he told me I was taking too long to scramble eggs.
This Keewa lady embodies so much strength and grace to have survived not an incident, but Years of brutality and emptiness. I aspire to one day rest in the stable, emotional wellness that she exhibits. Trust, I can relate. I was never trafficked, bus I still have flashbacks from years of childhood incest, PTSD from repeated sexual harassment and verbal abuse in my short-lived, NAVY career, and other abuses.
The shame one can harbor from an alphabet soup of mental illness diagnosis will burn a cave in your chest until it just becomes too burdensome to carry any longer. Surviving the healing process, therapy, meds, learning to trust and function normally again is all to real for me too.
None of this is easy. Getting better can make you crazy lol It’s like Otis’ mama said in the Temptation’s movie, “I was alright until they started curing me.”
It’s a good thing that Jesus is curing me now :)

I grew up in a strict religious environment. I’m a survivor of various abuses, low self esteem and suicidal tendencies. As a result, ended up marrying a preacher who was abusive as well. I told my late preacher father what was happening, he told me to stay there bc my ex husband wasn’t beating me. I continued to be there. One day, it got to a point I wouldn’t take it anymore, ask the good Lord for help. Yes He provided finances n a way of escape for my children and I. Well once I divorced him, my family, his and the church ostracized and shunned me for many years. But I’m very happy I overcame the pain and suffering. Today, my children and I amidst all the spoken negativity we’re successful. This young woman was so bold to share her story without breaking down in the process. I admire her for her courage. God bless her in all that she does in life. Thank the Lord, He reconnected to her brother n his family who helped her through the process. I’m joyful in her testimony. I wrote my testimony “Reborn” which it encouraged others to live their best life despite trauma. God is able.

This is most definitely human trafficking as the definition is not one size fits all. The people saying it isn’t need to educate themselves some more. Also, isn’t it something that the more control you exert over yourself, the more others won’t try to get over on you. Meaning, while she had no control, people took full advantage of her, but when she decided she was going to take control of herself, that is when she started gaining some kind of respect from herself and from others.

She makes up problems for herself because she doesn't have to work and is so bored that she has to create drama. People like that need to watch videos like this so they can get in touch with reality. I also have a friend who is in a very abusive relationship who thinks she has absolutely nowhere to go, so much so that she sends me pictures that she wants to have shown at her funeral. She needs to see videos like this, because she needs to see that there is hope and there is help.

Keeya it's so important that brave lights like you speak out. Abusers target vulnerable children who, if abused can wrongly be discredited and do not have parental support. It's happening globally. Gloria Masters, (New Zealand), Brenda O'Hare, (England), and yourself to name only 3 who blow the whistle on what's happening on a large scale.
There are common themes with these stories and you should link up. It's time for ordinary people to mobilise on this issue. Well done Keeya for being so strong.

Thank you for sharing your experiences. I appreciate stories like yours because it shows that there's not always a man in a windowless van kidnapping people, trafficking can literally happen in the blink of an eye to just about anyone. There are men that trick their girlfriends into trafficking, women who trick their friends into trafficking, parents who freely give up their children to trafficking... it goes on right under our noses every single day.
Very glad that you made it out and lived to tell your story ❤

His Love and his Light! God bless you! This story is an eye opener that many times trauma and pain allows us to help others who are going through what we have been through. As women, as people, we are all connected. It's time we stop fighting and judging each other and start uplifting each other. Like the wise folks say,' You never know what people are going through." I know God is able to restore, revive and provide. He's Able!

I will be researching ways I can help end sex trafficking permanently after seeing that movie. I applaud you for the courage to tell your story. More of these stories need to be told. Wow… Most of Keeya’s testimony is so parallel to mine…l didn’t realized I was trafficked, no one talked about this in the late 70-80’s. I later was briefly a human trafficking advocate and then stopped - I felt shame because I was an adult not a child when it happen to me. I know I was not to blame; childhood trauma followed me most of my life. But, it was still hard to face the feeling of; I should have known better…
