I was thinking that myself. I think visually it is cooler looking than any of the Star Wars Racers that Young Vader flew in. I only saw part of that movie; he watched the race or was in the race...not sure which one. Anyway this is cooler than any of those Star Wars concept vehicles. However the cool look while it would be really popular with people who like Blade Runner or Sci Fi, that look would mean the inside the passenger area would be cramped; people still would buy this version even knowing it is cramped, but the practical consumer would want more room.

A steampunk world with helium or hydrogen filled balloons and human powered propellers and rudders would be more practrical than any kind of heavier than air craft that relies on pushing the air down faster than it would otherwise fall. And lets not ignore the elephant in the room - the noise pollution caused by all those idiotic oversized drones hovering around.
There is no commercial viability whatsoever, and it is impractical on all levels. It's just dumb.

Thing is. Making flying cars is relatively easy. We’ve been conceptualising the idea since the 1980’s. Some people even made em. The problem isn’t making a car fly. But making it safe. Car crashes are very common. But on the ground you have physical barriers that stop most from flying off and hitting someone’s house. Or populated buildings. But if every car was flying. You’ll have a thousand flying metal projectiles wizzing around everyone’s head all the time

We could bypass this by having emergency backup power that's used for emergency landing in the event of accidents, hazards, or battery dropping below a certain percentage.
If the onboard computer could calculate the distance and time it would take to reach a destination while accounting for potential variables, efficiently reserving power would be much more possible.
The questions then become how do we achieve this and how many variables should be counted for this to be even viable?
Worse, how do we land safely if the chassis and or onboard flight system has been compromised due to hazards or accidents?
I haven't even addressed the current constraints with battery capacity and charging.
I could see this taking decades to solve.

The idea is solid because the math supports it and it is validated by many engineers using same concept in their designs. The Bellwether EVTOL uses many lifting surfaces in its design to take some of the load off the engines. Many drones uses this concept. I believe Moller has the right idea in using highly efficient engines to generate the power for the fans. New designs in vane shapes can increase lift and quiet the noise. Technology is always advancing but for a project to be successful the math must work. Bellwether has a design where the math works. Moller's idea worked. It was his business sense that ultimately was the problem along with skeptics with little imagination. The hybrid approach is becoming more popular in the drone biz just like Moller predicted because the math works.

I would say probably say in a slightly shorter time due to the people working on projects involved in EV flight. The problem is power for these concepts. It certainly needs a big leap in battery tech for it to be viable. Most are only any good for 20 minutes flight time. The first company to crack flight time will corner the market.

The point of having coaxial props is to have redundancy incase of motor or propeller failure in one corner. Without redundancy, a failure in one corner will cause the craft to plummet into the earth.

I designed one just like it but left out unnecessary body panels. I had 2 enclosed propellers in the rear using on an outer pivot system, so the motor is fixed separately and the maneuvering is done moving the enclosure. On the front a single larger enclosed propeller on the same set up. 3 all together to stablalize and maneuver good while reducing the demand 4 motors would draw. The center cabin could seat four or two and cargo. I dont think we will be able to accommodate larger designs with the volume taken from possible roads or landing areas. It would exceed lane and parking widths to do more.
Their design would be controlled by wind easier an operate against more resistance with more weight. Mine would be the egg shape to reduce drag by simply not having the fancy looking wing body panels.

To come to market is one thing, for people to buy these as it stands they will have to have a pilot's licence.
There's only a few people that are wealthy enough with a pilot's licence that would be able to lease one of these never mind buy because the price tag will probably be about a million bucks if not more. And of these people only a few will even bother more than once, it's a very limited market.
To sell these and be viable you have to sell to the greater populace so it would have to be cheap and reliable, and the government would have to approve it.
Let's look at self-driving, Tesla's cars can all self-drive, you're not supposed to but the software is there. The reason it hasn't been legally deployed is that Tesla can't meet the safety standards required, the AI software will run over obstacles, make incorrect analysis of what it sees. Several stories of cars doing the incorrect actions. Elon keeps saying ext year but for all these self-driving cars in the works none are remotely close in the final analysis
Now apply all of that data to average people driving in a city.
As it is right now, they'll need a pilot's licence and log hours until qualified to fly one of these, perhaps 500 to a thousand hours in a real plane and then one of these hover cars but not on the road.
Then there comes traffic control systems like stop lights and whatnot because you know people will just fly between buildings and won't see the cross traffic. These things count in terms of one of these things being able to be sold, because there will need to be MASSIVE infrastructure changes to incorporate these into a city environment
Making these things a reality will cost time and effort to even remotely get off the ground.

I always see people say this and never understand what they mean. Roads are finite areas typically rife with hazards all around ( medians, telephone poles, street lights, construction crews etc.) not to mention other vehicles in close proximity at all times, and are prone to external conditions like weather (freezing, flooding, cracking etc.) and have to be maintained consistently for optimal efficiency/safety so it would make sense accidents are commonplace when there are so many variables. Wouldn’t it actually be much easier to navigate and maintain safety when you have the entirety of the atmosphere to escape to in a dangerous situation. Less costly to maintain air travel as well (virtually no cost whatsoever aside from maybe some guidance systems) Think how rare it is to hear about or witness two planes or helicopters or really any aerial vehicles crashing into each other vs how often it happens with vehicles. This is due to the inherent differences between the two travel modes. I think sky travel would be way safer as long as we had dependable vehicles and established altitude limits keeping you from risk of interrupting planes or crashing into skyscrapers.

This vehicle is all show and no go! It is just a quad copter with the prop motors hidden inside, with air fed to the prop motors via ducts in the top of the body. Unfortunately the fancy looking ducts block free flow to the prop motors and reduce the thrust and efficiency, which will give it poor range and will make it loud. The prop motors do not tilt, and in order to move forward, the entire vehicle has to tilt forward like a drone. But unlike a drone, it has a lot of body surface area that gives the vehicle a lot of drag and slows the vehicle down, and also generates negative lift as the air in the front pushes the nose down, which will also create serious control issues. The large surface area of the body will also make it susceptible to winds and will make it difficult to fly forward and control in high winds. Also, all those fancy looking fins all over the vehicle create a lot of drag. The vehicle has no wings, and the short fins on the body will not provide any lift unless the vehicle flies really fast, and this is not possible since it flies like a drone. Instead of focusing on a good flying design in the beginning, they started with a fancy looking body and then tried to find a way to make it fly. Given that batteries today are so heavy and have low energy densities, flying cars have to be very efficient aerodynamically to get decent performance. The specifications of the vehicle are ridiculous and completely fictitious. But it is a cool looking vehicle. Too bad it wont work very well. Lastly, it is not a real flying car, since does not have any wheels. It is just a poor performance manned drone with internal prop motors. But I will say that it is inspiring !
