I'm sorry for your loss. Did you cat get diagnosed with HCM as well or was it not detected? My cat was diagnosed with asthma but I currently suspect that she has HCM too. Does this mean that she might die at 8 years old even if she got treatment now or is this without treatment?
@idc5962 he got diagnosed with it 3 days before he passed but the vet at first thought he had pneumonia. Unfortunately most cats don't live more than a year with HCM even with medications
My cat was diagnosed with this exactly a year ago today and I’m here to give some hope!! Last year we took her to the vet a few times, no heart murmur was heard but wasn’t eaten well and developed rapid breathing. She had an ultrasound and they found lots of water on her chest (not lungs) this was drained and they noticed the left side of her heart had thickened. I asked the vet how long they thought she had left, she said she couldn’t tell me exactly but said it could be months or it could be years and years- it was impossible for her to estimate. After 2 nights at the vets she came home and started daily medication. Libeo and clopidogrel. Here we are a year later and she’s sitting next to me sleeping. It hasn’t been plain sailing, she’s had to go back to the vet twice this year after a spell of not eating but I’d say she is doing well. She still plays and has a good quality of life but sleeps a bit more than the average cat, which she has always done since a kitten. My advice would be to monitor how rapid your cats breathing is. Google says cats should take 15-30 breaths a minute but my vet said 15-40 is normal. DO NOT TRY TO COUNT WHEN THEY'RE PURRING. Cats breath much faster when they’re purring so don’t scare yourself! Weirdly she still doesn’t seem to have a heart murmur and different vets have tried to listen. She may develop this later down the line? But I hope not. Trust your gut and take them to the vet if they seem off.
My 4 year old got diagnosed 2 weeks ago with HCM, he had fluid in his lungs. He’s now on 3 different medications 6 times a day. Clopidogrel to prevent blood clots, vetmedin to help his heart pump better and Furesomide to keep the fluid of his lungs. This comment gives me hope! I don’t know what’s normal and what’s not. He’s been back and forth to the vet so much these last 2 weeks and twice ended up on oxygen. He still eats, plays, toilets. I panic every morning and I’m scared to get up as I don’t know what I’m getting up too. He had a heart and lung check at his booster appt in feb and everything was perfect and normal. Then 2 weeks ago we get this diagnosis. I hope and pray he is around for a long time as at 4 years old he’s still way too young! I don’t know what I’m doing, whether he is abdomen breathing or not. I just want to do right by him 😭 I’m glad your fur baby is doing well! It honestly gives me hope.
I posted a comment again shortly after the comment I left. Initially I put off having an echocardiogram as the vet we saw said her initial scan showed all the signs of heart failure. Well after over a year of her daily medication and holding my breath, I decided to get an echocardiogram with another vet. EVERYTHING was perfect. No thickened side of her heart, no fluid, nothing. This vet said the initial thickening and fluid were probably due to an injury she must have sustained- she loves to climb trees, maybe she had a fall? I don’t know. She’s been off all medication for 10 months and she is like a kitten again! So much energy and such a happy girl. I highly recommend you get an echocardiogram so double check. I’m sending you all my love and positivity because for a year I was just stressing and it was awful.

Are there any treatments to save her since she still so young and body still has room to grow?

Thyroid should be checked at the very latest I would say around 7 years. A cat with a murmur I think should have an echo, it will provide much more info including grading the murmur.
Please don't spread this disinformation. There is no 'cure' for this very deadly disease and only your vet can help you find the right plan to keep your feline as healthy as possible. The new vet thinks she may have had an injury (which caused the fluid to build up around her chest and thickened side of her heart)but everything is fine. I had my suspicions because no vet has ever heard a heart murmur with her. I’m just so happy she’s okay.
My little 3 almost 4 years old cat just died last Saturday Sept 5th, 2020 - she had liquid into her tórax and lungs and also a 1.14 cms gross from the “septo diastole” (don’t know what it is in English) associated to a probable hypertrophic cardiomyopathy 😭
My cat is 2 years and also have a 1 centimeter wall 😑
I understand your pain and i think it will hapen the same.

This is fucked up very bad luck
Its a so special and kind cat like a son
Very sad
@@OleM-0891 Hi, thats very sad to hear :( I hope your cat gets better!
Our cat has a heart murmur picked ip a few years ago after a feint. A scan showed i was told thickened heart and blood not being able to move as it should. Plus water in chest not lungs so much. He was on heart tablets clopidrogrel and water tabs.. water tabs were eventually discontinued by vets. I wqs told he could have two months to live. He had a heart scan yeaterday and his heart was normal aparrt feom murmur and his left side was only slightly thick at 8mm but hes a big cat. So wqs is a mis diagnosis? Hes been taken off all meds by cardio vet
How are they doing now? My fat has this. She is on clopidogrel and water tablets
My cat was just was diagnosed with ATE
feline hypertrophic cardiomyopathy with secondary iliac thromboembolism
He had exactly those symptoms and we don't have much hope according to the vet 😢 he said he was going to give him aspirin and check how he reacted to the medication
How is him?
How is/was he?
Great explanation! Does the cat have to be vocalizing for it to be a thromboembolism? I understand it's painful but what if they exhibit all the other symptoms, including 0 pain response, except vocalization, does the rule out thromboembolism?
Not sure but have them check for neurological.
Yes this were this is what happened to my fur baby but no one can tell me ,if there were any treatments . I feel the decision to put my cat down , made without me was not right .
That’s definitely not right sorry for your loss you should seek legal advice
Can a clot in the heart cause fluid around the heart?
Tumeric and Omega 3's can help to support circulatory function and maintain cardiac health ❤️
Thank u
Does pain have to be present my 5 week year old kitten stopped nursing 3 days ago ive had to force feed her since she also exibiting a loss of function in the hind legs she'll use them sometimes but mostly drags them like the old perverts old dog off family guy the cartoon but she doesnt so much as whince in pain. I had a xray done the vet couldnt see anything wrong with spine but said that the heart may be to big he said he wasnt sure cause he does handle cases like that to often. Are there any treatments to save her since she still so young and body still has room to grow?
When a cat is diagnosed with ANY heart murmur, should the thyroid be check as a sop??
My 13 years old cat died today of heart failure. Yes have the thyroid ckeck. It has link to cause high blood pressure , heart problems. I regret I have not done that when he was younger .
@@nathaliecaron3938 Im sorry to hear that. How are you holding up? I have a question about it. I want to adopt a cat but the pound said he's healthy except that his blood work for HCM were a little high. But is not diagnosed with it. Does this mean I can potentially stop it from developing ? Or is just inevitable?
Thyroid should be checked at the very latest I would say around 7 years. A cat with a murmur I think should have an echo, it will provide much more info including grading the murmur.
I HEARD THAT VITAMIN B IS THE CURE. IT ACTUALLY BRINGS THE HEART BACK TO NORMAL.
really? my cat is suffering from HCM, as suspected to have FeLV as well. Sad and worry, try to find ways to help him.
Wouldn't it be nice if that were true. But, unfortunately.....
Please don't spread this disinformation. There is no 'cure' for this very deadly disease and only your vet can help you find the right plan to keep your feline as healthy as possible. My girl was diagnosed two years a go and going to a vet and fully cooperating with our vets expert advice and recommended treatment is the reason she is still with us.
There is no cure.
Stop spreading misinformation.
@@wholeNwon Yes, I heard coffee enemas cure cancer too. Ugh. 🤦🏻♂️
