@Brian Kimboll yes, I was specifically referring to the etymology of the term "ecchi" in general since Japanese has alot of colloquial terms influenced by other languages/cultures in some way, in this instance the pronunciation of Roman characters with Japanese phonetics.
Frank: now you can go up to that kawaii japanese girl in the back of your class and tell her Anyan: please don't Frank: *trust me, she's gonna LOVE IT*
Been binge watching these filthy frank react videos today and you’re the first one who actually explained what echi shiyo means rather than just laughing or being shocked then carrying on. It’s good to see when people explain it well
I've always encouraged and appreciated bluntness. I can't imagine how frustrating japanese society would be to me, with how much they avoid being direct with things.
it is definitely different from how a lot of western countries operate in that sense. from what I've heard from my japanese friends they find it pretty frustrating at times as well, but have gotten used to it lol
They do a good job, being too blunt can create a negative enviroment. Though I have to say that there are some things that you should confront and that's the downside of it
@@caios5128 Of course it's a generalization and there's always exceptions, but in my experience Japanese people prefer approaching this indirectly, rather than head on. In cases like this, girls for example will often avoid using direct words like vagina or sex, in fear of seeming vulgar.
I am Japanese but learned English. The thing that got me learning was everything seemed backwards. When speaking, keeping eye contact and be direct. Us Japanese do beat around the bushes as you say. We act shy or expect us to be submissive and that's how we are taught from childhood.
I’ve been on a binge watching a bunch of creators react to Papa Franku’s Japanese 101 because let’s face it they aged like fine wine, and I have to say yours was very enjoyable and while I probably won’t watch more content on this channel you have a great smile and sense of humor. Hope you have a good rest of your day.

2:22 That happens to me with English. I'm a Spanish speaker, and I have a dirty mouth whenever I speak in my native language (a lot of cursing and slang). But as soon as I start speaking English, it's a different story. LOL Love your J101 reactions! Give us more b0ss! pls! ♥

Ecchi is also the Japanese pronunciation of the the letter "H" which is the first letter of the romanization of the japanese word "Hentai". I don't know for sure if they're connected like that but it's an interesting thought.
Thanks for explaining about the video. I watched those japanese people reacting in the same video and they just said "just don't say it". And I didn't know why.
But in the end is basically the same. Ecchi means "H", as in Hentai. But for some reason just saying the first letter becomes more discrete. So basically "Let's do "H" things". "Let's fool around a little bit" is actually very fitting, Firuchi Franku's wisdom is on another level.
Japanese people dont use "henti" in the way we do. For them Ecchi is always some form of sex. Henti on the other hand kinda means like a fetish or a taboo or uncomfortable fetish. Japanese people would rarely describe sexual anime as "henti". It's more a situational word to describe a person doing something kinda creepy or like a fetish. Hard to explain exactly in text.
Oh, god, i'm dying to watch your reaction of Japanese 101 - Pussy, it's on TooDamnFilthy channel, even better with idubbbztv as a student in the video, funniest episode of the series at least for me lol
I guess you need to hear his song "i love sex" wich he sang in japanese if you need something frontal. It's good tho veru catchy song, just watch it alone i guess XD
Yeah my mum and I saw that video a few years ago and we absolutely laughed our *sses off. I'm Japanese but was born in California. So I'm only semi-literate in the language and more importantly, only ethnically Japanese, not culturally Japanese. (I'm NIsei.) There is two kinds of Japanese language, formal and informal. "KAWAII AS F*CK!!!!" that should be a bumper sticker!
It's supposed to be over the top, offensive humor, lol. He's half Japanese and lived there as a native speaker, so he does know deep down what they do or do not actually say. These videos are never meant to be real advice, lol. He's playing a character named *Filthy* Frank. This type of thing should be expected ;)
The funniest part of this pick up line is that I hope everyone noticed his etchi shiyou = エッチしよう.It looked like he wrote エッチしょう(shou) = let's have sex in his paper LOL because yo looks a bit smaller to shi while shi and yo are supposed to be the same height. Regardless, Filthy Frank is worth watching for fun.
