love this video you explained it all so well tks. quick question you glanced over the save pdf option in affinity, but when i save my CutContour line i created and renamed that layer CutContour, in the pdf file created that layer gets renamed curves, is that normal or ok? or should it keet the name CutContour ?
I feel your pain being a Linux user. I put together a windows PC just for adding a cut line, sending rips and set up Dropbox for transferring my projects. Works well. Great video, thank you!
Since we are silhouette users, in your opinión is it easier or better to do all the design in sillouette studios and then assign the cut line in illustrator or in afinity?
Personally I do EVERYTHING I can in Silhouette Studio then export to put into another program to add the contour cut line - b/c that's where I'm most comfortable. Both Illustrator and Affinity are fast and easy for adding the contour cut line. The biggest difference, when it comes to this specific task - is Affinity is going to end up significantly less expensive b/c it's not a subscription.
Great video! However I try it. I was able to create the color pallete, but is not adhering to the image contour. It's staying or adhering to the image blue selection square. How can I make adhere to the image contour like in your video?
I followed all of this step by step. I am new to all of this, my questions is how do I remove some of the cut lines I don’t need for it to cut. I have a heart that I need to be cut just around the heart and not the wording inside the heart. Can you advise me how to remove this cut lines I don’t need ?
Hey there, if your heart is grouped with the words within, you'd ungroup and then only select the outline of the heart. If it's one object, then you'd want to change the compound path or trace the heart so you only have the outline to select for the contour cut.
Omgggg. I’ve been trying this for 3 days and when going to Versa works the A is not showing up. I really need help bad. I want to get started printing and cutting.
Hi using my roland bn20 I send my design to Affinity when I hit my contour my designs turn pink exported to versa works I can see the dancing ants there is no design when I printed on Roland it's only the outline
Hi Mel, I’ve followed your steps and when I open my svg file in Affinity and use my VW Roland Magenta swatch the whole image is shaded in magenta. If I remove the cut line layer and do the same steps for the image below the cut lines it does the same thing. Don’t know what step I missed? 🤷🏻♀️ Hopefully you can help! Thanks for all you do for us!
Hey there, it sounds like you need to ungroup the cut line from the image or do another outline. If the whole thing turns magenta, you have a shape rather than a path.
Hi, Do you do one of one lessons? I am having trouble doing the cut lines so exhausted I got this two weeks ago and have an event in 2 weeks where I needed 100 shirts 🤦♀️🤦♀️
@@SilhouetteSchool Mine does not either. So when you went to "View" and selected Studio. Looks like we don't have that option to click on. Is this something I need to add?
Yes that's b/c it's a JPEG or a PNG .. you need the SVG or you will need to create the cut lines first by tracing in a program like Silhouette Studio. Do you have the SVG file?
Hi Mel , tryed this in several times yesterday but on the roland side it dont show the special things like cutline or perf cutline. First taken on the silhouette studio then affanity designer and all show as it should be , exported to pdf but dont work. Is there any meaning what layer on pdf i put the contour cut line on the affinity? Be cause when i get picture from silhouette s. there is plenty of layers in it. And thats might be the answer ...any good thougts?
Hi @janituominen7607, it would be easier to provide you the help you are requesting if you could please send an email with some additional information. Please provide as much info (including cut settings / exact material / screen grabs) as possible when emailing. My email can be found through the contact page on Silhouette School Blog www.silhouetteschoolblog.com/p/blog-page_9.html
I use the same programs as you. However, once I add the stroke and then export it and upload into Versaworks why does it print the dark pink line and show in all my designs ? Hope you can help.
Hello there! I would make sure you're using the color swatch download. It has to be exactly the right magenta and named correctly so that the pink doesn't print.
How would you do the trace in silhouette on a cup wrap with multiple images. When i select trace area, up the threshold and trace and detach, i cannot slide the image over to remove all the cut pieces as its all detached, and if i group there is nothing there to remove
Hi Melissa :) Q- If the svg I’m opening in affinity is a layered svg after grouping it can I flatten? My cut lines are on all the layers even after grouping them. :( please help.💜
Hey there, vectorizing a PNG, especially if it's complex, can lead to loss of quality because the software has to read the PNG to be able to recreate the lines in vector format.
Affinity can only do this with SVG files..so if you have an JPEG or PNG you will still need to trace it in another program to convert it to an SVG first. I use Silhouette Studio to do that.
I imported an SVG and when you bring an SVG into Affinity it already has the contour line, you just need to set the color using the VersaWorks contour cut. So you do not need Silhouette Studio at all if you are using an SVG.

Hey there, I would make sure that you are selecting the contour path and only the contour path. It may help to select it in the layers panel.

Yes. You can find it here ruclips.net/video/h6LIONCuPY4/видео.html

I’m using affinity 2. How can I use a Joey or a png?
how do we figure out the height and width? no one has explained that
Hey there! The height and width of your graphics? You'd set this when you are creating the page and then scale your graphic to fit.
Hi,
Do you do one of one lessons? I am having trouble doing the cut lines so exhausted I got this two weeks ago and have an event in 2 weeks where I needed 100 shirts 🤦♀️🤦♀️
Yes I do through my site Silhouette U. silhouetteu.com/pages/silhouette-videos-help
Already did that how to I go by having 1 on 1 for Roland?
I accidentally deleted my color swatch in affinity, how do I get it back?
I know that some programs are more expensive than others.. but which would you say is the "best" to use for cut lines?
Hey there! Check out this blog post! www.silhouetteschoolblog.com/2022/08/how-to-use-silhouette-studio-business.html
Mine doesn’t have the studio option 🤔
I'm sorry I do not understand your comment.
@@SilhouetteSchool Mine does not either. So when you went to "View" and selected Studio. Looks like we don't have that option to click on. Is this something I need to add?
I just figured it out. It's under the windows tab now.
Thank you for video 👍
My pleasure
can I use affinity to make perf cuts too?
Yes
do we have to do the same for the silhouette if we want to use it with Affinity 2?
I'm not exactly understanding what you're asking.
Thats great news!
I have a round image and when I try to do the cut contour line all it gives me is a square around the entire image

Do I need to have silhouette studio business edition or will designer edition work ok for this?
You will need Business Edition to able to export
How would you do the trace in silhouette on a cup wrap with multiple images. When i select trace area, up the threshold and trace and detach, i cannot slide the image over to remove all the cut pieces as its all detached, and if i group there is nothing there to remove
I would probably do your trace and detach and then move the large piece out of the way rather than trying to grab the smaller ones.
Hi, I created my design in Affinity, but In my design I have outlines in my text already. Do I add another outline for the contour cut?
Hey there! That depends if you have the outline colored or not. You need that contour cut line to be the magenta swatch color.
How do I do this with windows?
Hi Melissa :) Q- If the svg I’m opening in affinity is a layered svg after grouping it can I flatten? My cut lines are on all the layers even after grouping them. :( please help.💜
Hey there, yes, I would flatten so that you're only getting the cut lines around the edge.
Mine doesn’t show the A I don’t know what I’m doing wrong 😢
okay I have tried this multiple times it will not let me export only thing that shows up is import smh I don't know what to do at this point
Are you going to File > Export?
Why do I lose quality of image when converting from png to svg?
Hey there, vectorizing a PNG, especially if it's complex, can lead to loss of quality because the software has to read the PNG to be able to recreate the lines in vector format.
How is the texture and washes? 😟
Check out this video! fb.watch/cw3SW9Cd8R/ Multiple washes have gone well!
