Alachua resident here. Thanks for making this video of our special town. A lot of the buildings you passed have rich history and you can find more about them on the city of Alachua website. I recently discovered there was an old movie theater from 1960. The ruins are still there. I have passed it my entire life and didnt know what that was!!
Thank you Greg for not only stopping in our city on your way home, but taking the time to share your video. I serve as a city commissioner in Alachua and we are very proud of our small town charm and our "Good Life Community". We are also home to the San Felasco Hammock State Park, and the Sid Martin Incubator for Bioscience which has been recognized among the best in the world multiple times. Our 4th of July Fireworks are attended by thousands of folks and we consider it the best small town fireworks display in America.
I would like to comeback and spend more time, eventually. I’m starting to realize, because of viewers such as yourself, that there’s much more to see. Thank you so much for watching and commenting! It’s a real joy to hear from those that really know the area.
@@GregBoswell428 We would be pleased to arrange tours of San Felasco Tech City, our Sid Martin Incubator, and City Hall when you return to visit. Until then, safe travels!
Your comment about fireworks triggered me a bit :( My Mom, who passed a couple years ago, used to say Alachua had better fireworks than Disney!! I miss her and home.
I went to UF so during my time in Gainesville I’d go and explore the small towns in surrounding areas. I like alachua and high springs. We’d pass them on the way to the itchetucknee. Old Florida is slowly dying but I love the old Florida charm that can still be found in the north central part of the state and some of the rural coastal towns. Florida is so beautiful and all the people moving here from other states rly dilute the culture, charm, and cohesion of the commmunities
That makes me think that I need to get out and do more of this. It seems like everything that I want to go see in Florida happens to be in the northern end of the state. I really appreciate this comment. Thanks for sharing! It has really compelled me.
Love this! The walking tours are great -- I don't live too far away from Alachua and I can't say that I've ever walked it! It is a nice little town, though. I love that Florida has little towns like these.
Check out Frostproof Florida in Polk County someday,a little off the beaten path.I live in Zephyrhills Florida.I've been to Alachua before and downtown High Springs next to it is awesome also!
Grew up there in the 80's and 90's. I had two different jobs on that street as a teen. It gets interesting when the Krishna's are out parading on main street, I don't know if they still do that.
I never thought I’d get this much feedback on this video. I really appreciate people like yourself who have some history here chiming in and giving us insight. It makes me realize that I need to go back and really spend the time to make a more thorough video. Thanks for commenting!

@alex5308 what are the rural coastal towns your thinking about?
Mind-blowing 🤯! Your creativity and attention to detail are truly impressive, thank you for sharing.

I’d like to explore it a little more myself
There's a store that sells everything for country apparel, hunting, hiking, riding horses etc
We are looking to buy a property in the city of Alachua and move up there from South Florida. Looks like a great place.
I am coming this month. ❤
Did you see the splash park?

Frostproof is definitely on my list. I should do it soon. Thanks for the suggestion!

Alachua (1824): A Muskogee or Timucua word for sinkhole. Historians say it might have referred to a large one near Gainesville.
That’s interesting, didn’t know that!
Well done! I subscribed!
Thank you very much!
Is a small city with sidewalks and could easily been turn into a 15 minutes model city.
Pretty house on the left at 10.05 , what is it ?
I think it's a bed and breakfast
Alachua has CVS Pharmacy, Walgreens, Supermarket Hitchcock, Lowes Hardware, Banks, Advance Auto, Auto Zone, Subway Sandwiches, Pizza, Mexican, Cuban, Zagby's, Hotels. But no dentist😢
We actually have three dentist offices in Alachua.

My American Dream.
Sorry for my english.
I think the inflated population comes from the proximity to Gainesville
