I liked Green Lantern. Yes, I can see why people were disappointed, but it was made with decent special effects for such a light-moded comic movie. A bit more deadpool and it would have had potential. A part two might have hit the right tone for fans. DC comic movies always seems to be dark and take themselves too seriously. BTW, maybe "The Flash" had the same problem, beginning as a fun film to watch, getting darker and ending in a mess - destroying the DC universe on it's way out. 🤢 And it had the wrong actor for the main character. Not when people base it off the first shot of the initial trailer. The film wasn't out yet, yet people already didn't like it. Don't deny there wasn't some sexism amongst some of the fanbase. "Ghostbusters 2" and "Afterlife" also sucked IMO (haven't seen the most recent one as I am over it) and even the first one wouldn't be in my top 100 films. If you didn't like it, then critique it for me. Tell me why you didn't like the movie, but you can't use the word "woke", make any political point or mention them being female. What did you not like? The story? The casting? The acting? Come on. If you hate it so much, and it is so flawed, then tell me why. Failure to do this will just reiterate to me that it is based on the gender of the Ghostbusters and nothing else.
The female Ghostbusters movie was a bad movie, regardless of the cast. The slapstick nature, over-brightness, and goofiness, completely missed the mark on what made the originals so good. It was not unfair criticism.
I liked the movie and where it was going but it seemed it pushed jokes where they didn't need to be. Seems like every scene has some sort of joke and it didn't need it.
@@BalorShield Yeah I can kinda attest to this. I watched the trailer when it came out and it seemed just like a normal trailer, but somehow it has a lot of dislikes. I was going to give it a chance, but then the corny trailer turned me off from it since the humor was so cringe, that and the tacky looking pots and pans Ghostbusting gear. But apparently the self righteous feminists think I’m a misogynist for disliking their tacky movie.

@ true but it’s a respectable adaptation, nothing to scoff at, unfortunately the differences in media mean that book to screen often doesn’t work as well as the other direction.
@@NightHunter571 that's why i prefer reading books first; while movie is more visual (and tied to director's vision of material), books offer you unlimited imagination of same event without constraints. and that's something that movies will be NEVER able to replicate, no matter how truthfully the stick to source material.
Actually, I found that movies always intending to have a sequel actually do better, as some of the good stuff is spread over multiple movies. "Empire Strikes Back" and "The Godfather Part 2" worked because not everything was put into the one movie. There was always plans for sequels, so they have a story for each one. The sequels that often don't work are movies which never planned for a sequel, and the story was told in the first film, and the sequel is often a cash grab with some of the members of the original cast missing.

The list also missed the animated/live action film "Osmosis Jones." It made only about $14 million worldwide on a budget of $70 million. In 2025 money, that's a $250 million budget with a return of only $50 million. It wasn't a bad movie but it was poorly marketed and overpriced.

It wasn't. The actresses weren't funny. The writing wasn't funny. The special effects were great though. So, people who are woke obsessed will see any criticism as something they see as "woke affirming" as "racist", "sexist", etc. and have no clue that people don't obsess over the same things, but actually have taste, regardless of a person's sex or race.

To add insult to injury for The Last Airbender, not only is it a longstanding joke amongst fans that the film doesn't exist, but the kid who played Aang only did one other movie (Cowboys and Aliens) before he had to quit acting.
They also picked the wrong actor to play Solo. Anthony Ingruber had played a young Harrison Ford already and could pull off han solo exactly. There's videos of it. Besides no one wants to see his origin. His mystery is why he is so liked.
@@Darkoverlord70 This. The only shot Solo had at all is if Ingruber was starring in it. But nepotism instead of level heads got that clownshoe hired over Anthony. What a missed opportunity.
I thought it was a decent movie. Not great but not terrible. The big problem is people were spoiled by the Brendan Fraser Mummy which was more like Indiana Jones. Yeah it was turned into a Tom Cruise movie, but those usually do well. People's expectations vs what it ended up being was the problem. It's not nearly as bad as many of the trash movies coming out now, like Borderlands or The Marvels or Kraven.
@@Heathcoatman I think what disappointed me about it, was when I heard it was suppose to start a monster universe set of movies. I was thinking it would be more of a reimagining of the old Boris Karloff movies. But that's my take on it. I know plenty of people that liked or even loved the movie.
It wasn't terrible, but if they had focused more on the story, and less on the tie-in to a larger film universe, it might have been better. Think about "Iron Man", where the only tie-in to the larger MCU was the post-credits stinger. That turned out pretty well.
One other reason why it flop was because Will Smith didn't approve of the script. I remember hearing about that from somewhere. If you ask me, I think Smith should have done the ID4 sequel because it would've saved him from the negative review's about that Trashy 2016 Suicide Squad.
@@noahskinner1158 And Suicide Squad would have been better without him. The movie still would have been bad, but getting rid of his horrific performance would have raised it up from unwatchable to mediocre.
It should have been a box office success. Was any reason given why Will Smith didn't return? It seems unfair to bring down the whole movie just because one major actor didn't return.
@@bluegold1026 If I recall, they wanted him for two more movies and he wanted fifty mil to be in two movies and the studio was like "hahaha...no." So, Will didn't sign on. If there are potential jobs for him popping up around the same time and he has the choice between reprising a role or doing a new character, he's said he'll usually do a new character.
Amazing Spider-Man 2 didn’t bomb. It was actually a box office success. Reason was because it was moving to MCU and wanted a younger Spider-Man hence Tom Holland!
They had no choice in the matter even if they had wanted to do one. The widow of Dr. Seuss was so upset with how the 2003 live action adaptation of The Cat in the Hat was done that she forbade any future live versions of her husband’s works.
I saw PAN in the theater. Twice. AND bought the DVD. Rumor has it that a treatment was written for a trilogy, or at least a sequel. I'd love to know where they would have taken the story. A WRINKLE IN TIME was so incredibly awful that the remaining books will probably never be filmed. And passing the DIE HARD torch to Jai Courtney didn't happen.
One major annoyance with John Carter is that unless you have read the books, its title really tells you practically nothing about what the film is about. Eg: Star Wars immediatly tells the audience that its a sci fi film with lots of action , whereas 'John Carter' could be a romance/family drama set anywhere, or court room drama, cop show, or god knows what. I was just flipping around channels and found Carter by chance - then found it great to watch. A good film.
LOL, I saw the trailer in the movie theater and I remember thinking "What the hell?" when the Title came on the screen. What a stupid title. Too bad, because I legitimately thought it was a good film, with great pacing. I honestly thought the Title tanked it's potential.
Agreed! Princess of Mars, John Carter of Mars, or even Edgar Rice Burroughs' John Carter of Mars would have at least gave it some fan credibility to start.
I read once that someone went to a book signing for Christopher Paolini. They told him they were sorry about the movie, and he replied, “What movie?” I don’t blame him in the least for pretending it never happened.
This!!! I watched the film first & thought the world was great, but the story didn't end properly. I recently got the TV series on DVD (all 3 seasons in a box set) & watched them, & saw the story ending more like the author intended, & then the other two books as well. It. Was. Awesome!!!
I think Solo's issues were more related to when it was released. It had only been 5 months since The Last Jedi, which was still very fresh in people's minds, so they weren't really clamoring to hand over more money to the franchise. Also, and I think more importantly, it was released only 1 week after Deadpool 2, which was largely competing for the same audience. I think if they'd released Solo either later in the summer, or even waited until December (when the three previous Star Wars movies were released) it would have fared considerably better. And it's a shame....it was a really solid entry, and quite refreshing to have something Star Wars related exist outside of the Skywalker melodrama.
The very basic plot of Showgirls- a young woman who will stop at nothing to get to the top; only to realize it wasn't worth it, would make a great movie. It was all the over the top nudity that ruined it.
1:19 - For me, the dislike of the Solo movie had nothing to do with it not having Harrison Ford or anything to do with any of the other Star Wars movies. I was actually excited about the movie when it was announced. But, the story and dialog were just bland. It was another CGI packed fan service fest with no soul and cringe dialog.
2:07 - don't blame 'Solo' - blame the Sequel that came out before it. 'Solo' came out just 5 months after that December crapfest "The Last Jedi" and got caught up in the hate.
Solo also sucked, the writing was bad the dialogue was trash and the fact those moron writers not only screwed up how he and Chewbacca met and that Han’s character was basically a copy of a guy he met is laughable.
Most of these flops are because of greed. Thinking you can create a franchise from loved book series and it will be a huge hit making tons of money no matter the if it has the soul of the written words. Often these movies cheapen and can even damage the source material.
RUclips making me skip 2 ads is annoying. 1:30 Solo was solid but Last Jedi coming out before tanked it. 13:05 Jumper sequel today with better effects would be great! Especially with the resurgence of Hayden Christianson. He unfairly was criticized heavily for Anakin Skywalker. Today he is beloved and a sequel could be great. 13:45 Godzilla post credit scene still makes me want a sequel. A fresh egg hatched in Madison Square Garden?! Count me in. 17:10 Great call! Spiderman/Superhero fatigue did it in. 21:05 Making Superman Man Returns be a “sequel” to the Christopher Reeve Superman did it in. Doomed to fail from the beginning. 24:30 Green Lantern was not bad and was did in by critics. Fans were split on it but critics hate it too much. Better to look at audience score vs critic score. A solid sequel (that was set up very well in the movie) could’ve got more fans back regardless of what critics say.
bull hockey! I watched it. it was boring, the kiss of death for ANY flick. Your taste blows chunks. heck, solo was repeatedly shown up in his own movie by a random woman
"The Last Airbender": the movie worth not just 5 Razzies, but also a whole produce aisle of rotten fruits and vegetables to throw at! Or what other specific foodstuffs to throw at it? Possibly *CABBAGES?*
One might conclude: don't make movies based on trendy young adult literature because by the time they end up in cinemas, their target audience will grow up and won't fill enough seats.
@ the Wachowskis knew what they were doing when making the movie and used their own spin from the source material and made a banger of a movie. Too bad no one saw what they envisioned. I’ve seen the movie like hundreds of times and never get tired of it
Lost in Space (1998) suffered from the studio assumption that it would spawn a new franchise, so most of the aspects that fans of the original tv show had wanted to see (as well as the actual resolution to most of the movie's plot points) were allegedly saved for the sequels.
Too many sequels these days, like every movie needs three parts. MCU did a bunch and it worked, same for star wars and LOTR/Hobbit. Never watched Harry Potter or transformers 3 to whichever part they at now. Like Vin Dissel and fast and the furious. 5 movies or more is way too much.
@@waheedabdullah6371 it was completely nuts, but I liked it more than most of the uninspired horror slop that's the same as everything else. At least it was something different.
Yea I've always liked her more than Kristen Wigg, there's nothing wrong with Wigg, I just don't think she's great as a lead. I know I'm probably in a minority there, because she's a lot more notable than McKinnon, but I thought the movie would have been better if their roles were swapped.
yeah honestly, Wiig and McKinnon were among some of the biggest highlights of GB2016. And had they had a more clear idea for the reboot beyond it being all-female, it probably would’ve done better.

I LOVE the LOEG graphic novels and the movie made me physically angry. 😂
DC messed up, they had the perfect Superman (Cavil) , Batman (Affleck) and Wonderwoman (Gadot) and decided to reboot again. I hate reboots, aren't there any new stories for the old characters ... or new charactes when the stories are all told?

Divergent got screwed over due to the studio wanting to make it in 2 parts. The female Ghostbusters movie was a bad movie, regardless of the cast. The slapstick nature, over-brightness, and goofiness, completely missed the mark on what made the originals so good. It was not unfair criticism.
They played the movie too much like Bridesmaids. That's a funny movie for what it is, but why did they think it would work for Ghostbusters?

I was going to give it a chance, but then the corny trailer turned me off from it since the humor was so cringe, that and the tacky looking pots and pans Ghostbusting gear. But apparently the self righteous feminists think I’m a misogynist for disliking their tacky movie.

You should not write a movie with a sequel in mind. Just tell your story, and if it’s successful then you can plan a sequel.

I think Solo's issues were more related to when it was released.

Godzilla 98 and Godzilla the series was awesome 😎
Don’t know the series, but I love the movie to this day.
King Arthur was severely underrated!!
4:00 “Showgirls” (1995) also had an NC-17 rating
It would be just as controversial today as it did back in 1994, IMO would not have a different reception.
Even though Speed Racer bombed, I’m glad it is getting the recognition it deserves, plus it’s still the best Live Action Anime Adaptation out there
That such travesty is "the best live action anime adaptation" speaks volumes about Hollywood's inability to adapt that kind of material.
@ the Wachowskis knew what they were doing when making the movie and used their own spin from the source material and made a banger of a movie. Too bad no one saw what they envisioned. I’ve seen the movie like hundreds of times and never get tired of it
"Speed Racer" is great but I think "Alita" edges it out as the best anime adaptation.
5 movies or more is way too much.
i think we're at 11 in case of FnF :P
Why couldn't Winnie the Pooh Blood and Honey be one of them?
Because brainrot viewers made it successful
When it comes to movies like that. It ruins classic Disney movies by the way.
Because the sequel was better than the original
@@waheedabdullah6371 it was completely nuts, but I liked it more than most of the uninspired horror slop that's the same as everything else. At least it was something different.
@@Phoenixflower666 it was still bad though
Ghostbusters 2016 had some potential, but it seemed to be composed of mostly improvisation. Kate McKinnon was a Saving Grace.
There were so many better ways they could have female Ghostbusters instead of gender-swapping the original characters. Why reboot something when you don't have any respect for the source material?
No it didn't
Kate McKinnon and Chris Hemsworth actually did carry
brandon routh as superman was such a good casting man
The "Jon Carter of Mars" book(s) definitely deserves another chance. It needs to look like the effects are practical.
