Nice comparison, I just bought DJI Osmo Action 5
Its crazy how gopro encroached in DJIs turf with their Karma drone and failed. Now you got DJI killing it with their action cameras...soon to be with their upcoming mirrorless cameras.
And maybe even ebikes. DJI trying to take over the world.
I’m definitely going to be getting one of the mirrorless cameras

The action 5 looks so pixelated and produces such annoying artifacts for literally no reason other than DJI wanting to say it can get to 4 hours of battery. It doesn’t make sense. Let me choose my bit rate and lose battery time.

Great info! I am looking into my 1st action camera to use for fishing on a kayak. Is there an external power hookup on the DJI so it could be run all day from a separate battery?
just buy the adventure combo..comes witj 3 batt..should last your kayak adventure
Of course Action 5 won’t overheat. It has a worse bitrate than the Action 4
GoPro hasn't had anything new IMO since the Hero 11.The 12 and 13 just seem to be firmware updates with add on lenses or improved battery life.

Also native connection with the DJI mic 2 is a no Brainer.
The fact that DJI only offer Ultrawide, wide & dewarp at 15mm is the reason I’m not getting this camera. 15mm is too wide and objects look tiny. Atleast GoPro offer more FOVs, particularly when shooting in Linear.

I agree with you, I wasn't really impressed with GoPro's lack of image quality enhancements to the new Hero 13. The new magnetic mount is nice, but a little late to the game. And I'm really not interested in the new lens attachments. I'm holding out to see what the Hero 14 has to offer. Meanwhile I'm already enjoying my new Action 5 Pro.

I film monster trucks. And i use gopros to set up and run for 2+ hours at a time. So it annoys me when people say you shouldn't be using these cameras for more then like 20 minutes at a time. DJI is the way to go. Only thing gopro still has on DJI is the onboard microphone with loud settings (like race cars or monster trucks) other then that DJI is better in every way
We switched to DJI for everything when the action 3 came out. Just got the 5 and absolutely love it. Also like the pocket 3 we have.
The perspectives in your side by side look identical - how did you do that when each wide mode is usually notably different between dji and gopro?

Which has the more accurate colours? Look at the basketball court floor for example .
GoPro still has tremendous brand recognition. In fact, the Hero is STILL the top-selling action camera in the world. Even if you own a DJI or Insta360, the average person will refer to it as your "GoPro". People who aren't paying attention to the industry will still walk into Best Buy and ask for a GoPro camera. So I don't see sales coming to a halt any time soon. But I have looked deep into their financials, i.e. their balance sheet, stock price etc., and they are close to being on financial life support. They are essentially a one-product company whereas Insta360 and DJI are very diversified. Something major has to happen with this company. I don't think they have the capital to broaden their product line into major accessories like microphones and other gadgets. They need to be financially rescued.
Here in the Philippines any small action camera they call it GoPro which is a little bit funny. I have a GoPro Hero 5 Black. In my opinion I will definitely go to DJI Action 5 Pro. It's time to try DJI Products. Now I have my DJI Mini 4 Pro.
Correct. Action cameras are still known as GoPros. And sadly I’ve been following the decline in financials as well which is frustrating as they are a one trick pony and still can’t innovate.
Maybe for straight action cameras but for 360 the GoPro Max isn't as good as the x3 or x4. I say that as a Max user, my next 360 will for sure be an Insta360. That alone has me thinking about Insta360 for my other cameras.

Agreed with everything 100% with you. I'm currently using the GoPro 10 and I'm definitely getting the action 5. All those features are light years of GoPro 13. I'm done with GoPro. Jumping ship. Batteries swell up, my gopro 10 overheats and shuts off even when in motion at 4k 60 fps. Batteries take forever to charge also. I use DJI for my drone and now definitely for the action camera. Great video. Ty!
Thanks for sharing. Ya the GoPro batteries take forever to charge when the Dji quick charge super fast. Trust me it’s frustrating trying to do these tests having to wait to charge. 😝
@@FlytPath yes, facts lol. The multi battery charger stinks too because it charges the batteries 1 by 1 instead of at the same time.
Good point on the GoPro batteries swelling up. I just threw two away that were swelling.

I think DJI will get there, but they need to improve image quality. Currently it’s over sharpened and the skin tones are a mess.
Bit rate sucks thats why dji has longer battery life
That will be fixed in new firmware, probably in a few weeks from now. DJI acknowledge this and said they heard this is an issue and they will address in the next firmware update. I rather lose an hour rec time and get higher bitrate. I will never shoot long 4 hour videos on an action cam.
@@TimeTraveller969increasing bitrate via a firmware update isn’t something that can be done without consequence. Since the camera wasn’t designed for it, higher bitrate will result in:
- decreased battery performance
- decreased thermal performance
- possible memory corruption during encoding
- decreased firmware stability
Just put a damned 3.5mm audio input socket and add a waterproof adaptor cable and be done with USB c for adapting professional external audio please
I'd pick gopro because water cant stay on the lense and many other features are not available in dji.

GoPro you have one product to focus on. GoPro has also had what 13+ years to master the action camera and they still cannot seem to dominate that market. DJI has many products they continue to lead the industry on.

As someone with an MBA I would have to disagree with you that I don’t understand how the stock market works. Let me list a few stats for you below on Gooro’s financial status. Again numbers drive everything:

Loved your video! It is interesting how fast DJI is catching up with their tech innovation, and GoPro has a lot of work to do for improvements. I love your comparison video mate… Why don’t you create another video to do a test both Action5 and Hero13 on durability or latch test :) see which cameras does not drop in rough roads or drops…
Im kinda sold on the bigger lens for better low light use cases. Does the dji have manual setting options for framerate/shutterspeed?

Gopro seems more to try and sell you on accessories instead of innovating their camera. Lenses, modkits, etc

well at 303 gram its not a good FPV cam compared to gopro 157 gram

The footage is clearly better on the Chinese camera. The only thing that GoPro is better at is overheating.
Strongly disagree, kindly! I've had 11+ GoPro's and the Osmo Action 1 is still kicking! Lost too many money shots on GoPro! Like the time I had massive man's swimming overhead and the GoPro glitched, froze, and corrupted the file in Pohnpei Micronesia! 😢
@@1Know1tHurts I had the A4 for approximately a half day and returned it. I hated that thing. My GoPro footage is always killer.
@RichAloha That sucks and I would be angry too if I lost shots. I have had two GP9s, a GP11 and a GP12 and that has never happened to me once.
@@nicksangetta8874 GoPro will always be my first love when it comes to Action Cameras, but at some point I had to be honest with myself and their shortcomings. It's like the person you should have broke up with a long time ago, but you still come back hoping that things will change and be better only to find out nothings changed. GoPro has not innovated much in many years and in my opinion the Hero 4 had the best image quality that I had ever seen!
I'm a professional filmmaker and I've spent a ton more time than 99% of users behind action cameras. So I believe my opinion holds a lot of weight, but at the end of the day get what works for you.
We all have a preference. I bought the Hero 13 and already want to return it cause of issues. It takes forever to turn off and process what was shot.
Did ya remember to update that A4 before using?
I remember in 2016 or so, there were a ton of knockoff GoPro types for $60 - $150 none with above par imagery. GoPro messed up and got comfortable on this King of Hill vibe.
DJI strategically figured out Price to Value to put GoPro on defense… GoPro never thought consumers would leave them for an alternative.
I think it’s all down hill from here, GoPro is not willing to give up any additional Profit for additional consumer value that’s why these releases have all these additional costs attached. Diehards may keep them afloat but make no mistake DJI has a MMA Choke hold on this space.
I had a Gopro Hero 7 and had a lot of fun with it but it would randomly freeze up and I'd have to reset it by pulling out the battery. Was always waiting for GoPro to make one that didn't freeze up but the 8,9,10,11,12 all did (although a little less often with each generation apparently) and then DJI came up with the Action 4 which was like a Gopro with a better mount and didn't freeze, so I'm all about that now. Action 5 looks good but I'm happy with the 4. 🙂

I see an ever growing amount of action tyo6e users also using them with mics. The good quality of mic 2 directly connected to action 5 pro in my view is a game changer for that. No worry of the battery door being open and exposing internals. Using a wireless high quality mic in 4 season weather is extremely handy. Main reason why i bought 5 pro
GoPro is money grabbing and that's why DJI who just started making action cameras just the other day surpasses them for the past generations.

Just use the magnetic mounts with the two feet and yes u can use all the mounts

Ace Pro 2 leaked at 399€. Tho specs don't indicate a big jump. So we will see, but it looks that the 5 Pro is the way to go this 2024.

The DJI's dynamic range is heads and shoulders above the GoPro's.
Hues of the shadows are so well resolved/separated.
In those night videos, the GoPro was absolutely disastrous.

The GP12 is still the best cam in bright daylight. The A5 looks like blown out ass. The coloring sucks on that thing. The A4 couldn't do green and the A5 can't do blacks. But hey, it turns on really fast 😂
@@nicksangetta8874 GoPro is still a good camera. I think color is subjective. Watching potato jet’s comparison between the top 3 action cameras was pretty bogus. In the end, it’s about personal preference. For me it’s about better low light, not 5k or 8k.

PS1: You just missed talking about underwater specs and quality, since those cameras are also meant for that largely, since the beginning.

GoPro has not innovated much at all in the past few years, while DJI has leapt past them with the last few models. GoPro seems more like Apple to me, name recognition while taking innovations from others and acting like it's a big deal.

People here talking about lower bit rates are so funny not knowing it can be easily resolved with a firmware update. You know what can't be resolved by an update? A smaller sensor size, a bad battery life, and overall a bad camera experience.

I don't know what settings you are using on the GoPro but my HERO 12 at 4k 60fps looks a lot better than your footage with the HERO 13, very bizarre.

My setting is called default 5.3 30fps
The ¼" option is mostly useless is most case. Get a Small Rig case for those special use. :-)
Exactly why it's needed. I don't want to add a bigger case on a camera just for that tiny hole.

Aldryn I usually love your content (and have had a bunch of DJI drones that have been excellent) but on this one you are quite biased so it's hard to watch. I would think that if this were a paid / sponsored video that you would acknowledge that up front so I'm assuming this isn't.

@@FlytPath thx for asking and pls know I am a big fan of yours, rock my flyt path drone case, and have gotten tons of value from watching your content. also I am a big DJI fan. In this case, it wasn't as much any single feature as much as was what was said AND what wasn't said, combined with what comes across as a 'non-neutral' presentation of some points. For example at 1:20 there's a clear difference in exposure & dynamic range and I was hoping to understand more info about framerate, ISO, bitrate or other settings (log, etc) to understand is this consistent or when does it happen but without any of that it comes across or is implied that the gopro is 'bad' across the board. other example would be around 4:23 (resolution discussion) where you do acknowledge the 5.7k can help in cropping but then quickly transition to your own use case (somewhat dismissively imo, as well as no discussion of shooting on the full sensor on gopro and then selecting aspect ratio in edit, a cool feature of the quik app). in the discussion of accessories, the discussion on the gopro lenses was pretty one-sided - all about additional cost, none about the creative aspects and maybe there is a big benefit. similar on the magnetic mount, all about the cost (and yes of course that is certainly one point). it's not clear at all where the gopro doesn't work for your use vs. how do they compare objectively and which is better when. regarding the pretty cool gopro photo features (star trails, etc) you've neutralized that advantage by saying that they could be added as a firmware update by DJI. Sure, could be, but has DJI said they would or is that your projection to dismiss an advantage of the currently available features? so as the video builds, it feels like a bunch of DJI talking points. I've watched other comparisons that are much more explanatory of how the products compare, when it's better to use one over the other and come across as much more balanced. so it just struck me as a very odd or impartial POV. I love the work DJI is doing on its products and think that a balanced comparison will favor them in appropriate circumstances.
@@DaveStern2 fair points, but I’ve also addressed in more detail the comparisons in my main overview video which I refer too. Sure there are pluses and minuses, but I explicitly state for MY use cases, these are the reasons why it’s I feel the DJI action is better. I can’t speak for people who want to use all the attachments and lens options which are great, but it’s not what i do and they come at a significant cost. I only speak on what i do, how use them and my experiences. Which I feel is the right thing to do. Most other reviewers don’t even use the action cameras daily where I do. I appreciate your feedback and welcome all comments. I think I sum up at the end, that I’m for sure disappointed in GoPro as this is their only product and they simply have given up innovating. IMO, why invest in a company now that has seemed to throw in the towel which is frustrating to me too, and to the loyal GoPro fans.

I mount Action Cams in the cockpit of airplanes with no airflow to film my videos. I can't tell you how many times my GoPro's overheat and shutdown. I just ordered the DJI Action 5 Pro and I look forward to seeing how it performs. Thanks for the video.

You can use dji drones, action 1-5, and pocket 1-3 and you have same profile
Had garmin virb serie, they was the same too.
Gopro have bad color profile so i never ones tord of using one.
The magnetic (gopro-type) latch on DJI is terrible. Lost a camera because of that. Never again!
At 3:32, if you hit a pothole going reasonable fast, say goodbye to your DJI into the tall brush. It happened to me!
Been using mine on a hat mount on a kayak and it's been great. You have to double check its firmly mounted.
I've been riding and racing motocross since the Action 3 came out and never have had a camera come loose or fall off.
I have done over 2000km's in Vietnam with a OA4 attached to my motorbike. Never had a problem. The only reason I can see for one coming off is not making sure both sides are clipped down.
DJI is far way more better than GoPro!

Nice comparison dude, I got the OA5 too and agree with you, clear winner in my opinion and with the promised bitrate increase in the next firmware update the small issues with the faster paced footage like FPV should alos be sorted.
They will not be able to increase the bitrate in a firmware update without introducing a bunch of other issues to the camera.
I hope you can make a video about the bitrate issue on OA5

As a long time GoPro user, I got an action 4 this past summer and love it better in every way. I like the fast start-up, less overheating, clean interface, long battery life and most of all smaller form factor. I can imagine the 5 is that much better. I do wish DJI would have a service to upload footage automatically like goPro does.
