- The Steepest Mountain in Scotland where the road ends
On my first visit to Beinn Sgritheall my brother exclaimed that this was the steepest hill in Scotland. Given the fact we had spent the prior three days knocking off about 12 Munros, it was little wonder we felt that this mighty Munro above Arnisdale was the steepest we had hiked!
Returning here ten years later I was looking forward to what has been described as the best view point from a Munro Summit....

Enjoyed watching your journey to the summits of a tough looking assent under any weather conditions but especially those on the day. Well done to you both.
Keys left in the wrong car ... been there, done that! If only my mates were so 'understanding' :-) That looked like a proper day out ... sun, wind, rain, cloud, views and steep slopes galore, and all with the usual enthusiasm ... thanks for sharing.
Thanks Brendan , its comforting to see I am not the only on who has done that!

Great photos from the summit ridge! Thank you, Murray!
That did look steep, reminded me a bit of Skiddaw in the Lakes. You left that camera way back at 5:16 Murray, did you forget it? Lol. Another great wander. Thanks for sharing it. Dave

Skiddaw from little man! Brilliant walk, even if it isn’t as grand as some of the highland walks.
Thank you for this video. I have climbed all the Munros, but apart from avoiding cliffs, the steepest and longest climb that I recall is the north face of Beinn Dearg Mor, a Corbett, to the south of An Teallach. It was about 2500 feet really steep, my legs were screaming when finally the ground levelled off.
As always love the way you pronounce these beautiful mountains!
Wish I had more time to learn them TBH

We climbed it as a family back in the 80's and my mum nicknamed it 'Beinn Scream' because of how her knees and hips felt going down the steep slopes. I climbed it again a few years ago but only got a glimpse of the views for about a minute, then the clag came in, will need to give it another go. Thanks for the video!
I can sympathise - my knees were certainly screaming by the time we got back down!!

I am so glad I chanced upon your channel, you show the most beautiful parts of Scotland to those of us who otherwise would never see it, it’s difficult to believe it’s in Great Britain. I live in southern England so visits to such wonderful parts of Scotland for me will be something for my retirement years hopefully when I’ll have a little more time to explore the wonders of the great Scottish outdoors. For now I am just thoroughly enjoying watching you do it instead. I have certainly learned a few Scots words. I actually didn’t realise what a Corbett or a Munro was. You live and learn. Keep up the good work, love your accent, very soporific... Rich
That is a steep Corbett! Must have great climbing up that Murray. What a fanny!! HA HA! brilliant :)) Great film again, Looking forward tot he next part. Take care, peter.
Tanks Peter - it is super steep - if you look closely we put our micro spikes on for the ascent which gave a little extra grip! wouldn't fancy descending that way though!!

Love your videos buddy…so well done….such a lovely voice and superb production on them …I’m relatively new to Munro’s and did Stob Binnein today from Inverlochgarin after failing to do it from Ben More due to the lack of visibility last week. Watched your wee vid on it a few days ago before I did it..even popped in to Rob Roy’s grave too. Thanks for your fabulous descriptions and videos. Best wishes.
enjoying your videos mate , will definitely be doing a few of the hikes you've shown us .

I thoroughly enjoyed the hike in from the Gleann Beag side. Only not got the sweeping vistas over L.Hourn till youve put a shift in. Third time lucky sounds the biz. Keep up the good work.
A group of us climbed this mountain in '69, '70 or it might have been '71. Easter time loads of snow from 1200ft. Took the easy route from the north. Temperature in the sun over 75F. Lunched on the summit when two golden eagles appeared just off the summit gliding in the thermals coming up the southside of the mountain. They would suddenly disappear swooping down into the valley of Loch Hourn only to reappear 10 minutes or so later coming back up in the thermals. I think we spent over an hour watching these majestic birds before setting off back down the mountain. On the way down we found a dead stag with antlers. They were removed with an ice-axe and I believe were displayed in the youth hostel at Rattigan. Best day I ever had on the mountains. I can agree from the top the views were magnificent, we were lucky on that day not a cloud in the sky. Have to say I don't fancy climbing this mountain from the south-side it does look very steep. Steepness isn't the issue it's the length looks a right ol' slog.
It’s a fantastic mountain - I still need to go back to see the view from the top !
@@ScotlandsMountains I forgot to add my thanks to you for uploading this particular video (and all the others) as it brings back memories of many happy days in the highlands of Scotland. Other great days were spent on the Torridon ridge (3 or 4 Munros if I remember correctly), a very scary day on the Cuillin ridges (ice axes, crampons and rope) and the Five Sisters.
Nice trip!

My ascent of Beinn Sgritheall was done on a bright sunny day in 1988 and I can confirm that the views from the summit are indeed stunning. But it's a hard, steep climb.
Baggers 😂!! 😋😋😋😋 Nice video. Enjoyed it
Amazing photos, I need to visit!
I did this with my wife in May 2001 and had wonderful weather and views. Slightly marred by our terrier being mauled by the farmers sheepdogs at the bottom (for which he was apologetic). The walk back along the road seemed more than 2km!
Just found your video and loved it but Ben More gets my vote for the steepest Hill I have tackled, but a long time ago. Now it's only the Quantocks in Somerset for me.

Watched few of your films and fell in love with Scotland, need to plan my next trip there. What a spectacular views!Great idea with the links to the gear you used as well, there is just one thing missing for me,a links to the gear you are wearing like shoes, trousers, jackets, backpacks etc. I'm after a pair of trousers and the choice out there is overwhelming. If you could recommend something knowing you have experience and use them often in such terrain would be a valuable advice .Subscribed and waiting for more :)

I always smile when I hear British talk about their mountains:)
...they are hills at most folks
Yawn
Very nice hills though :)
Paul G Johnson this is true
True, but the maritime location makes the weather pretty dramatic.
Are hills were used to train for Mallory first ascent of Everest
I’ve only climbed the Argyll mountains. First one I ever climbed was Ben Lomond of course and then I climbed Ben Venue and then Ben Ann and then Ben Arthur (The cobbler) all these when I was 18-19 years old and I was on the teen challenge Haven program. Then we moved to Loch Goilhead in the heart of Argyll. Around our village we were surrounded by peaks Corbets, and I climbed nearly all of them and on my own. I only knew the names of two though. The one behind our home was called “The steeple” and I climbed this 1100 foot peak many many times. But my most favourite and beloved mountain in all Scotland 🏴 and which has deep spiritual significance to me is called Beinn Bheula. Not the highest peak I’ve climbed and not easy to find a path but is well worth the climb. You can see the Clyde and Greenock in the distance. The peaks name means Black Castle 🏰 but the pronunciation is also a Hebrew word which means “My Land shall be Married” the first time I climbed this mountain was on my own and God spoke to me about my future wife on the top of this mountain and I didn’t know that was a Hebrew word at that time meaning Married. Obviously of course it wasn’t named with that in mind but by chance it is pronounced exactly as the Hebrew word is. You can find the word in the Book of Isaiah 62.

These are really well made, they seem like something that should be in the telly. Incidentally, from a technical point of view, do you carry a travel tripod to get the 'walking past' shots? Also, when you're doing the 'pieces to camera' is your GoPro on some sort of grip or selfie stick? Great video, I would love to walk this route. How long was it? It looked like a long way but you cracked it in 7hrs. Very steep, especially the 'hands and knees' bit. Keep up the good work and hopefully inspiring people to lace up their boots and take to the hills
