- had a riff in my head last night and tried to replicate it with my unpredictable set up . At the 4:45 minute mark it goes into a “behind the music” run through of my equipment. I get questions on how it all works so I tried to lay it out in a slightly cohesive fashion . slightly. After that segment there’s a little more loose jamming at 11:45
There’s also a plea to #zildjian #vater or #promark to continue making Absolute Rock, Hammer or Rock Knocker sticks, the no tip rock drumstick that I’ve been using for 25 years, all of which have been discontinued. Any other stick companies want to start making a version of them? I’ll smash them for you!!
And please don’t point me toward the no tip Alien Freak sticks, not my style
:)

There's also a link to the new Patreon subscription set up in there, delve into the Lightning Bolt and Black Pus jam archives, plus new comics and more whatever...

I keep eating discontinued legos even though the thrill is gone.
Now I have everything I need to start my own Black Pus franchise
Perfect! I only demand 15% off the top , and one Large LEGO set a year
This is the most hilarious rig rundown I've ever seen... fucking love the setup. I film and edit for the Andertons channel and I'd love to live in a world where we could explore these kind of setups in videos. I was showing everyone your guys' stuff after we filmed our vid on the Line 6 DL4 Mk2... Big fan!!💕 Can't wait to see LB in the flesh!
Dang Andertons is a big channel!! Congratulations !
never realised you were playing to a whole lego city audience the whole time, nice to have some company
I am never alone
i hope they have ear plugs!!
I am SO glad to see youre still posting & making music. Ill never forget seeing you 10+ years ago, absolutely trying to see you again in provi next chance i get!!!!
I love your creativity man, forever inspiring.
Brian, you ought to try out an earthquaker devices data corrupter. Its a super awesome analog synth packed with killer sounding oscillators.
Sounds cool!!
Huge fan of Black Pus and a noise maker myself. I always had questions about the rig and now finally we’re graced with answers. Cheers Brian!
This is the most beautiful noise I’ve ever heard. Sincerely.
I love seeing the sonic butcher shop unveiled. I am reminded of Scott Cortez (lovesliescrushing, Astrobrite, STAR) and his processes. Thanks for pulling back the curtain!
Give this man a Grammy!
where's my muthufuckiung Granny!!!
it's crazy you're still posting, keep it up brian! you're totally awesome
I think you would really like Don Gero, Mr. Chimpendale. He uses a eurorack system in a similar way to your setup! I might have to find a clone of one of those little drum synths this would be fun for solo drum n bass.
Incredibly hard setup bro. Please come to Norway sometime as either LB or BP, We don't care!!! We just want to see you :)
just what i needed today stellar as always 🙏
I genuinely do not know how you came up with all this shit but I love it so much
my favorite kinda beets!
You choose your sticks on the glove size og your Playmobil friend? Two years later: you got some replenishment?
Someone get this man some damn hammer sticks!
Sick video Brian, I've been super curious about how you make your music. My friend and I are currently working on a new project heavily inspired by Lightning Bolt and Black Pus!
yes
What causes that heavy fuzz with the kicks?
It sounds like you have distortion on the pedals and i love it!
Now that's some badass vlogging
I recently realized that ProMark discontinued the Rock Knockers, I had a back log of sticks and haven't had to buy for about a year and half, and I freaked out. So I also started to look for alternatives and came across the Vater Hammer. Luckily, it looks like Vater is making them again as I just bought 14 pairs via Guitar Center, Musician's friend and a local music shop. So Brian, I think you have an option now via the Hammer. Did you get a chance to try the WHD 5A Double Butt Drum Sticks? How did they work for you?
This absolutely slaps
i use timbale sticks.... los cabos red oak... same size as 7a... probably too small for you... but, you get 4 sticks for the same price as a pair
woot woot
Hi Brian, I use (or used) the same Zildjian sticks, there is a company in the UK called WHD that make 'double butt' sticks that are very similar, cheaper too (although you may get stung shipping them to the US)
Rad! Found them online I’ll check them out
@@plackbus I gave them a go recently, they are not quite as heavy as the Zildjian ones and definitely less durable but still better than those alien thingies
Let’s go
I'm sure now days there's something that can do what the Line 6 pedals does. Or have someone re-house it so it never breaks again.
Does anyone know of any other oscillators like the ones triggered by the bass drum that are easier to obtain? I’d like to try something like this setup but I really can’t find anything quite like those oscillators.
I'm experiencing the same issue. Both Cortez B-2s and Bias BS-1s are pretty hard to come by and also pretty expensive, since they're a product of the 80s
@@cormacbohren3175 the electroharmonix space drum is pretty similar and way less money - you can hook it up to an external trigger like a piezo disc and it works in a similar way. You can adjust the sensitivity on it so it triggers when you hit the kick.
Have you messed with any Chase Bliss pedals? those things do some wild shit
hope you found your sticks, man.
almost as cool as garth brooks first facebook post
magnifique!
PLACK BUS
what is it gonna take for zildjian to make more of these? .. I really don't understand why they won't..it shouldn't take any more effort than a regular stick, in fact it should be more efficient because it's butt ends on both its not specially lathed or anything...this is life now... unnecessary "cost cutting" like the goddamn taco bell menu.
o YEAH SICK PLAYING BP !!!!!!
Probs just cuz chip was their only customer for them LOL
I would have tried them out tho now that i know that's his favs. I've always liked timbale style sticks though. Funny cause if u look for timbale sticks they charge up the ass for them even tho they should be easier to make. Now i just go to home hardware and buy some dowels and make my own.
@@SaumBodhi exactly! I bought a few of these right as they were discontinued and love them but they are very breakable sticks and should be bought in bulk which isn't possible anymore. they also hit very hard but for this style thats ideal. I got these old stock promark timbale type sticks which can almost scratch the itch but imo they're too thin and just don't feel like normal stick thickness. also sold as a specialty stick :/
time to get into woodworking i guess
@@marcel1372 i wonder if a good plastic alternative could be 3d printed. Those would last. Just need to have them weigh the same, which may require aluminum rods in the middle, which would help structurally anyway. I bought a pair of black plastic sticks (shaped like regulars tho) and they're made with some metal in them and weigh the same as reg sticks, play just as good and never break (granted i dont play hard enough, barely ever break wooden sticks)
зачотдд
How do you even get your hands on those sticks despite them being discontinued??
When I heard they discontinued them I bought every pair I could find most of which I’ve smashed at this point
how are the oscillators triggered by the kick?
The two oscillators are small boxes mounted on the kick and they have sensitivity knobs , the whole kit would trigger them if I turned them up but I try to limit it to roughly the kick
@@plackbus thanks for your answer! was really interested how they picked up triggers - I know the oscillators are really hard to find, but do you have any suggestions on more readily available standalone oscillators that can be triggered like that?
first pus
speed demon!
This is schizo music. I love it.
