Rebel heart please!! You’ll love it. Also please do the deluxe edition. I know 19 tracks is alot but the deluxe tracks are very important part of the album
Can we take a minute to praise Isaac?? So powerfull, cultural and cathartic, just takes my breath every f*cking time! This nonstopped version is heaven
Please react to Madonna’s Confessions Tour at some point in the future, I would love to hear your opinions on it! It’s one of the most spectacular and legendary tours of all time ✨
Interesting facts about this album, it received 3 Guinness world records for song (hung up) and album (COADF) hitting #1 in the most countries with 41 and 40 respectively and it received another record for oldest artist to simultaneously top the UK albums and singles chart with Hung up and confessions both being #1 in the UK at the same time. Hung up was even #1 on the international charts for 14 weeks! Guess what song dethroned it? Sorry from the same album which was #1 for 6 weeks on the international charts. Unfortunately, the singles on this album were completely overlooked in the US. Hung up only went to #7 despite going Platinum and hitting #1 everywhere else and Sorry managed to hit #1 on the international charts despite only charted at #58 in the US due to low radio airplay. Hung up imo is what made Madonna a timeless artist to me. The fact that she had that much success with that song when she was in the 3rd decade of her career proves that she's the undisputed Queen of pop. This album is my favorite from hers and my second favorite out of all artists I've heard (behind reputation by Taylor swift). Hung up is what made me a Madonna fan.
It’s true that some of the lyrics can be vague like in forbidden love, she is such a visual artist, if you watch the confessions tour where she performs the song you will see the political aspect of this song and you will probably go “aha”. Yes we want you to review all her albums, you are such an amazing kind person! Oh one that no one reacts to but has so much cohesion in the way it has been put together is her greatest ballads hits compilation “something to remember”. Would be so interesting to hear your view on a more introspective and downbeat Madonna but literally we want you to review them all! X
@@ericmason6540 please react to the full official version of the Confessions tour. You might as well do that before reacting to other albums for the time being.
There's talks of a possible Dua and Madonna collab coming soon as Dua credits Confessions as the main inspiration for Future Nostalgia. Dua's manager said that he reached out to Madonna's team so we'll see what happens 👀
I personally think that from now on you should do her albums in chronological order like you did with Janet (with the exception of starting with The Velvet Rope). I think it’s a good way to see how an artist grows throughout their career!!
Jump and Forbidden Love have Pet Shop Boys influences in their sound. That’s more thanks to Stuart Price, who is a huge PSB fan. He even had them remix Sorry. Elements of that remix was used on the Confessions Tour. Stuart has gone on to produce the last three Pet Shop Boys albums, incidentally (Electric, Super, and Hotspot). I may be alone on this request, but I’d love if you dived into their catalog. They are in the Guinness Book of World Records as being the most successful musical duo in UK history. They’ve produced music for Kylie Minogue, David Bowie, Liza Minnelli, Yoko Ono, Dame Shirley Bassey, Girls Aloud, Dusty Springfield, and Tina Turner.. among many others.
I’m always super impressed by how you interpret the lyrics. What’s amazing with Madonna is the layers of meaning she puts in her lyrics, which in the beginning of her career were often simpler like dance/sex or spirituality/sexual euphoria double entendres but as she matured became far more complicated. You often make me revisit the lyrics with layers of meaning I hadn’t thought about, which I appreciate. I hope you continue to look at more of her albums. Bedtime Stories is a fabulous choice. American Life... well, maybe you’ll get me to appreciate it more. I’d really love to hear your thoughts on Madame X as well
You should react to "Music", it is a solid record... The songs are mostly heavy on the glitchy electronics, but with an underlying element of melancholy.
Epic reaction to an epic album! But you have to have to have to react to the full confessions tour!! It’s ICONIC. And even just saying that is an understatement. Madonna is a very visual artist. You are only getting half the story without the videos and live performances!
Hands down the best review I’ve seen on this album. So much insight and analysis on the artistic choices and themes vs just a reaction to what sounds good. Excellent. I’m subscribing!
To me, one of the great things of Madonna is that she's funny as hell, just watch some of her interviews. And that humor goes into her music too... I love New York is a little tongue in cheek in that way, same can be said of some of her songs and lyrics from Erotica and Like a Prayer (to name the albums you already heard). She writes what i feel are funny little lyrics to provoke or make a point or just for laughs. I know it's been said but you should really do American Life and Bedtime Stories next... also, Madame X.
I would love to see you react to Madame X, but as other may have pointed out, you should probably listen to albums like American Life and Music first in order to understand the sort of work she's done in the past with Mirwais (her main co-producer for those 3 albums; he also had some input on Confessions, by the way). In regards to other more recent albums like MDNA and Rebel Heart, I really hope you give them a chance one day, and in spite of the criticism, perhaps you'll be able to understand and appreciate them in their own right. MDNA was Madonna's post-divorce album - don't let the EDM fool you, it's often a very angry and sad album. If anything, the dance music on it is probably there to provide solace and shelter from the post-divorce blues/bitterness. Also, the slower tracks on MDNA like "Masterpiece" and "Falling Free" are absolute gems. Anyway, I love your reactions - you're so thorough and interesting in your analyses! Keep them coming!!
Excellent! You should see the video for "Hung Up" and the second part "Sorry" and later "The Confessions Tour", one of the best Madonna concerts and of course of all time.
Fantastic analysis as always, Eric! As I've recommended before I think you would really enjoy analyzing "Bedtime Stories", and I think you would also be very intrigued by diving into "American Life". Now that you've listened to Ray of Light and Confessions (what I see as her two utmost masterpieces) it's fascinating to look at the albums that came directly before them to see what sparked her to move in the musical directions she did. "American Life" is also very apt to engage with right now because she wrote that album during the start of the Iraq War - wherein she expressed a lot of anger in seeing certain facets of American society wanting to cause others pain without any recourse or remorse. I think she also had a parallel realization that the nation she was raised by and saw as a mother figure, as well as what her concept of what it meant to be a mother, both turned out to be completely different from what she thought they would be - and this understanding brought out a lot of well-articulated sadness in her songs. No matter what Madonna albums you ultimately decide on, though, keep up the great work! :)
Now that I think about it, this albums is as much a personal one for Madonna, talking about fame and religion and stuff, as is American Life. But here, it works better for me.
Hung Up grew on me because I remember when the song played on the radio back in 2005. Ahhh man the memories. I was in the 5th grade when Madonna dropped Confessions on a Dance Floor ♥️
MADONNA. IS . THE. QUEEN. BAck when she made this album she was ripped apart for making a "disco" dance album.....and then guess what? everyone.......even rappers started making "disco" dance albums.
Should you go with Bedtime Stories, know that a good chunk of that will be reliant on the context of the massive backlash she got for Erotica and the Sex book she released 2 years prior. It's her warmest, most inviting, yet most underrated album, even by Madonna herself, as it has been her least represented album in all of her tours.
i have BEEN waiting for this video omg... i’m so glad you liked it! it is definitely on my top 3 madonna albums ever.. I think next should be American Life... with Music after it, the late 90s/early 2000s were truly Madonna’s second prime... love u bb! ❤️
What a beautiful, layered and thoughtful analysis of her work. I don't recall music press really going into so much detail at the time. There's enough detachment here to view her lyrics outside of personal pronoun perspective, and to articulate her poetry from the perspective of a more global narrative, one that is much more layered than simplistic first impressions. Thank you. Shows also how her songwriting is vastly underestimated, with layers of commplexity built into seemingly benign dance pop ditties. Nice to see her work treated with intellect and respect.
What a great way to finish a long week of work on a Friday! Thank you! You totally have to do American Life next, I think you'll have a lot of lyrical material to work with. You rock, Eric!
''Hung Up'' is my favorite song of him. This song made me went to be a fan of Madonna. I remember to heard this song in radio when i was teenager at the end of 2005. I have in gift in february 2006 this album and i played this album a lot a times. I have today since 2006 this album and this album was a great pleasure to listen. This album today was a incredible and i like all the songs of the album (like ''True Blue'' and ''Ray of Light'').
If you watch the confessions tour and you hear her talk about after she sings I love New York what that song means that New York is a state of mind its a fuck you Altitude
Besides Get Together being my jam... I love her vocals on Isaac and the transition into Push. Actually I really like all the transitions! So good. Great review. 👍🏼
Off topic but you seem like a very kind and thoughtful person. I really enjoy your analysis. If that’s how you approach most things in life, I’m sure you’re highly regarded for your input.
You're intelligence is 🔥😍. Since you've listened to Forbidden Love from Confessions, you should listen to Bedtime Stories where there's a song on this album also called Forbidden Love. MDNA. Do the Deluxe Addition for - I F***d Up. It's worth it. It seems like I am the only person who thoroughly loves this album. Favourite track - Some Girls. Get Together is my favorite!!! I can just have it on repeat and I’m good lol. Wow your analysis of the songs. So deep. I don’t think of Get Together like that I just dance. Thank you for your review. Great album it’s so fun!! I think Isaac is very cool too. That humming of hers gets me and I like the transition into Push Me. The transitions are all really well done in my opinion.👌🏼👍🏼
I think you should listen to ABBA’s final album, 1981’s “The Visitors.” Casual ABBA listeners never go there, as they’d rather stay within the comfort zone of the “Mamma Mia” experience. Really appreciate your insights on album and lyric themes!
Yup, got the Sk8r Boi reference. Should you choose Bedtime Stories to do next, there is another completely different track on there also titled Forbidden Love.
Bravo. And as you were talking about Isaac, the Biblical reference is not new here, as she used biblical references in Live to Tell and in Into the Groove as well as I'm sure in some other songs. Specifically, the fire burning inside, the writing on the wall, and Truth vs lies
Eric Mason yeah it was pretty messy towards the end. He took MILLIONS of dollars of HER money in the divorce and that whole thing led to her making the album MDNA which was very much at times intense and angry but also very reflective. Not a fan favorite but I think once you know the backstory and the place she was coming from the album makes a lot more sense lol
Yah, my initial assumption was that it was about her then-husband, but Eric made me revisit the song with other possibilities and we all know Madonna typically means several things at once and rarely has one possible meaning to her lyrics
What Madonna album should I react to next? :)
AMERICAN LIFE is DEEP! GO FOR THAT!
If Ray fo Light was because of Lola, American Life was somehow inspired after Rocco was born...
American Life, it is sooo underrated!
Rebel heart please!! You’ll love it. Also please do the deluxe edition. I know 19 tracks is alot but the deluxe tracks are very important part of the album

Way ahead of it's time, Madonna and Stuart Price Made Magic that Year.
remy paraskovia upto confessions she lead. Then after that she followed.... until Madame X which was something fresh no one did before.
I absolutely love when you're vibing to the song looks to the camera and smile :) so cute! ^^
I agreee
Also agree
That’s right...and by knowing Madonna’s music i know when you’re going to smile next... well most of the times
Can we take a minute to praise Isaac?? So powerfull, cultural and cathartic, just takes my breath every f*cking time! This nonstopped version is heaven
YEAH! I have the verse "wrestle with your darkness" tattooed on my arm, one of my favorites Madonna songs
Thats beautiful!!! Definitely one of the most beautiful sentences there 😍
I love the song Isaac from the album. YASSSSS.

You're intelligence is 🔥😍. Since you've listened to Forbidden Love from Confessions, you should listen to Bedtime Stories where there's a song on this album also called Forbidden Love. But if you just want to enjoy dance music that requires no profound analyses, on the opposite spectrum, then her debut, self-titled album Madonna is just pure bubble gum pop perfection. Btw, did you ever listen to Deeper and Deeper again to hear the Vogue lyrics reference?
Thank you so much! Yes, I caught the reference the second time around. :)
I think this album might hold some of her most inconsequential lyrics, they definitely take a backseat to the music. But with that being said, a lot of the themes she explores on the second half come directly from her American Life album
MDNA. Do the Deluxe Addition for - I F***d Up. It's worth it. It seems like I am the only person who thoroughly loves this album. Favourite track - Some Girls. I am still discovering things I never heard the first 50 times I listened to the song. I watched the video at least 40 times before I clued in that every person in it was transgendered. At least I think they are. Some may be reversed gender roles. Some maybe are . . . what does matter. Really. I think that's the point. Madonna was a pioneer using music videos. She always makes the best videos. For me, it's sometime difficult to separate her songs from the video.
She was signed by her name and the early death of her mother, and so she inspired generations for better.

You should really react to this tour. Blew my mind away
Thank u awesomeness
I admit I replay Get Together over and over again. So fun. 🤪👍🏼
forbidden love is mainly about religion... I don't want to spoil anything since idk if you will watching the tour
I love how you say on Future Lovers “big Donna Summer vibes here” and on the Confessions Tour she basically makes a mash up with Donna 😅🙏🏻
My favorite Madonna album
Fighting Spirit is the bonus track.
Honestly, my fave M album (next to American Life and her debut cause 80s is the best) 😍
Like A Prayer
My 3rd favourite-of-all Madonna albums. I always took the "better version of herself" in Push to be her mother...the "original" Madonna.
I think you should totally do a full reaction to the confessions tor because a lot of the lyrics and things Can you get played out within the show
You are so so gorgeous and I love your analysis.
Eric if you liked this album you'll REALLY love the Confessions Tour, you should react it in parts, the best tour of her whole career believe me (;
Hi Eric. You are looking lovely again.
Yup, got the Sk8r Boi reference. Should you choose Bedtime Stories to do next, there is another completely different track on there also titled Forbidden Love.
When this album came out I lost 200 pounds working out to Confessions every evening.

Bravo. And as you were talking about Isaac, the Biblical reference is not new here, as she used biblical references in Live to Tell and in Into the Groove as well as I'm sure in some other songs. Specifically, the fire burning inside, the writing on the wall, and Truth vs lies
Thank you! :)
I guess this the physical album, it hears like a DJ set with no pauses
You should review The Visitors by ABBA. One of the greatest songs ever written about politics and the impending invasion by the USSR into Sweden
Bedtime Stories is my fav.
Where have you heard the non stopping version?

Push is about G*y her ex husband whew chile that's a whole other can of worms but anyways as always I love your reactions and analysis 🖤
Ooh, I'm going to have to look into that! And thank you so much! :)
it's less depressing to assume Push is about her mom tbh
Eric Mason yeah it was pretty messy towards the end. He took MILLIONS of dollars of HER money in the divorce and that whole thing led to her making the album MDNA which was very much at times intense and angry but also very reflective. Not a fan favorite but I think once you know the backstory and the place she was coming from the album makes a lot more sense lol
comeawaywithme I would love that but we have to be honest with ourselves it's unfortunately about that man who wanted a good little house wife 😔
Yah, my initial assumption was that it was about her then-husband, but Eric made me revisit the song with other possibilities and we all know Madonna typically means several things at once and rarely has one possible meaning to her lyrics
Do American Life next please
NeXT Bedtime Stories please
American Life next pls
Push was about Guy Ritchie
